Mr SQL reacted to Atari 5200 Guy in Any ATARI JR. owners?
It was the first console I bought with my first paycheck along with some games. I don't regret doing it. I still consider it one of the best things I ever bought for myself with my own money. I had fun with it.

Mr SQL reacted to 7800 Pro Gamer in Any ATARI JR. owners?
So growing up everybody was giving me their hand me down Atari stuff, so I had two wood grain models and a Vader at one time. I honestly have no clue what happened to those, probably still in my parents attic somewhere. I did buy my first 2600 Jr for a steal two or three years ago. I got it to hang on the wall in my game room as art. I've since removed it from the wall but it looked cool up there for a time.
I do like the look of the Jr but I always just used my 7800 even when I had the other 2600s. My aunt's and uncles would see me playing Atari and bring me boxes full of games, controllers and consoles just to get rid of them. It was one of those all or nothing deals.
I don't think releasing the 2600 Jr was a bad idea at the time and I believe it sold decently. Mind you I'm basing that on something I remember maybe reading a long time ago about it's sales. Lol. It had a sleek look and there was fun to be had especially if you were short on cash.
I mean it brought the fun back with a real joystick and classics galore.

Mr SQL got a reaction from Justin in Any ATARI JR. owners?
X2 on a new Atari Flashback that uses the single chip and neatly done video mod!
I opened mine up to check, ordinary Jr. I like that the Jr has the RCA jack exposed, I use a shielded coax with an RCA adapter to clean up RF.
My Vader is on another Television setup and I think I broke my six switch removing the hex buffer with solder braid but it may be repairable, damaged it with static from my hands switching controllers. It still looks iconic just sitting there.

You're right, Gas Hog doesn't belong in that sub-list. I forgot you couldn't shoot up (and I even have the WR for the game :/)

Nothing too exciting, but a Tomy Blip, 5 Genesis games, and an Amazon Echo Dot (old version).

Very happy to get this. I've been concentrating on my 7800 collection lately and never had Donkey Kong for it. This was an extremely nice pickup for me.

Berzerk (2600) for the modern VCS. This was made available today following the announcement of Atari's acquisition of 12 classic IPs from Stern, including Berzerk and Frenzy.

Fresh arrivals! I picked these up from AtariAge Marketplace on Facebook. Only took a couple of days.
I really need to set up my 800XL. I can't wait to type in BASIC code from books and magazines and relive those days as a kid when I spent an entire Saturday entering code and debugging. It took me an hour to enter a page worth of code from magazines as a kid.

Some recent pick-ups with the most notable one being the Intellivision 1 in the Super Video Arcade shell. Crossbow recently posted this for sale.
All the games came from two visits to Pink Gorilla this month. It was cool seeing CIB Jaguar games. There was another one or two that I left in the store. If they're still there the next time I visit, I'll grab them. I now have three CIB Jaguar games (Tempest is the third one).

I've picked up a lot lately. Mostly replacements for my collection I lost in the fire.
Wii Sports Resort, Fable 3, Fallout 3, Forza Motorsport 4, Odama, just to name a few, are new games I've never owned before.
Also went and got an original gold cart of The Legend of Zelda for the NES just because I've always wanted one.

I had a lightsaber game that was like that but it had a lens to read the special lightsaber controller. It was cool. Here's a pic of it.

You can only shoot left or right, not up.

Found a few more Space Invaders! Pleiades proto which has a space invaders first stage.
Pheonix and another paddle game Guardian, and Encounter at L5.
Also found a very close space invaders port with a scrolling large planet in the background with continents visible. I can't remember the name and can't seem to find it again the sea of ROM's I found it in.

There are so many fantastic Space invaders ports for the Atari 2600.

Mr SQL reacted to Scott Stilphen in Space Invaders Ports
That's Spacechase.
There's dozens of derivative Space Invaders ports for just the VCS alone (Deadly Duck, Beamrider, Juno First are a few others). SwordQuest FireWorld (the Fire-Breathing Dragons mini-game) and the 2nd screen in Gremlins are 2 more. Same in the arcade - countless knockoffs and variations of that same theme. Any game that restricts the player to movement in only one axis while shooting at enemies/targets covers a lot of games, such as Carnival, Shooting Gallery, Space Jockey, Wabbit, etc. Galaxian (and it's sequel Galaga) was a variation of Space Invaders and basically could be considered a separate category, where the 'invaders' would split off from the main formation and drop down to attack you, which of course spawned its own knockoffs (Condor Attack, Demon Attack, etc). Centipede and Millipede are essentially Space Invaders and Galaxian, that allow for a little movement beyond simply one axis (Spacechase and Time Warp are 2 more). Moon Patrol is another sub-genre that offers shooting in 2 different directions, and includes games like James Bond 007, Mission Survive, Space Cavern, etc. Games like Scramble (and its sequel, Super Cobra) are an 'evolution' of that same premise and allowed the player to move anywhere on the screen while shooting AND bombing enemies, so with those you get variations like Fantastic Voyage, Name This Game, Xevious, etc. Vanguard came out later in the same year as Scramble allowed for shooting in 4 directions, and Space Tunnel (re-released as Cosmic Corridor) is a very basic version of that.
As you can see, there's a LOT of games that sprung from Space Invaders 🙂 So, if you're looking to make a list of all the Space Invaders-type games, you need to specify to which degree as to which games are included.

If you count Galaxian on your list, then also add Demon Attack and Phoenix, which are both a lot of fun.

Mr SQL reacted to MaliciousCarp in The Amazing Musical Keyboard!
Recently one of my Coworkers found this when cleaning out his Grandfather's house. He knew that I collected Commodore stuff - so he grabbed it for me. I am so excited to own one again (I had one back in the day, but we got rid of it when we upgraded to a 128 since it doesn't fit that machine's form factor)

I think it's really cool that not only are these old computers living on forever, so is the influence of the forward-thinking early adopters, living and past, who were enthusiastic about the computer age and remain a great part of our community today.
