  1. Okay, this is purely just some silliness and having some fun. 😜I am using a camera app with filter results hopefully somewhat reminiscent of how images might have been displayed on some retro consoles and computers. Perhaps this is how an image might have looked also printed out on Old dot matrix printers. Anyway, this is an app on my old Android 7 phone called Retroboy, I've taken some selfies using various filter options. With each filter option, you can also go to settings and customize results in regards to resolution etc. Shown are samples using filters for c64, Game Boy, Apple computer etc. As to the specifics or the accuracy of the results I cannot say. It's just a toy more than anything but I just love playing around with such things that try to mimic the results we would have had back in the day on our beloved computers in consoles. Again, it's all just for fun and something to do, various similar apps create this effect or they may record video or take images that appear to have been created with an old '80s VHS camera or the low res Game Boy camera or even mimic the effects of cameras from years gone by, of course, we can always do amazing things with our modern phones and cameras but I have more fun I think playing around recreating styles from long past, we didn't have the resolution or the detail or the effects that we can create now of course but that didn't mean that you couldn't be creative and have fun.

Just noticed this posted by retroillucid over on Atariage.

I checked and the link will allow access to the post and ROM whether or not you are signed in so non members are fine, HOWEVER if you are a member be sure to post a THANKS as well. 👍🏻

Being the huge ColecoVision fan I am I had to share the news for anyone not aware.

CollectorVision shares the prototype ROM as they tend to do.

I don't feel it's my place to share the ROM here so if you are interested check out his post on AA HERE to grab it:

But, the main bummer for me is that my TurboEverdrive 2.5 doesn't work on it at all. I can insert it and the DUO sees it and lets me select it to play. But then the TED loads up with an SD IO error? However, the TED works fine on my actual Turbo DUO...so I don't know what that is about.

    Not a perfect solution but....

Ok. JavaAtari is cool but I don’t believe I’ll be winning any high scores on it.  Touch controls are iffy most of the time.

And why "mobile" games are very much their own thing. On my Android phone (an old Android 7 I use as a tablet of sorts without a sim card) I don't mind the odd puzzle or Pinball game, some pinball is pulled off quite well but I never really could get into platformers or racing or fighting games on mobile personally. Short of maybe using a Bluetooth gamepad with emulation but again I've only done that on Android. With so many ways to emulate or play retro games, I've not tried too hard to accomplish it on my iPad.

  5. I love the quality and presentation of this guy's videos. 😎

Instead of using emulators, I’m going to show you how these games looked on actual machines. We’ll recreate the same setup and playing environment as you could have back then. This is what this channel is about, less emulation, more real stuff!..
I’ll be using both “bread bin” and C64C models, with an original 1702 display (which was an exceptional one), and the infamous Konix Speed King joystick that leaves your hands sore after playing...

    Early games:
games like Choplifter, Congo Bongo, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Hunchback, Jungle Hunt, Pitfall 1 and 2.

Later games: Arkanoid, Asterix, Barbarian Palace, Barbarian Psygnosis, Captain Blood, Defender of the Crown, Nebulus, R-Type, Silkworm, Solo Flight, The Last Ninja.

That was how I used my VCR to play Atari games in the 90's hooked up to a Commodore video monitor that used composite ports.

Right now I use a VCR to connect my game consoles to a coax jack only TV I inherited from my grandad.

Literally an Identical story, hooked up to a Commodore 1084s Monitor, man that picture quality was outstanding, so much so I watched my VCR and played my NES and Snes and any other composite output system on the Commodore monitor, I even HAD a 21-inch RCA but still choose to do 90% on my viewing on the little 14 inch 1084 monitor because the colour separation and sharpness just blew the RCA away.

It’s not an up close picture of it but it’s on the wood storage drawer.  I try to nab VCRs from our local Goodwill when I see them as we own a bunch of videos including a lot of Disney movies.  No remote but still plays like new.

Nice, as for the faux wood storage door pretty sure anyone who had a VCR had those types of drawers by default, I know I did. 😆

  8. Officially? If not app on the store not sure, the IOS ecosystem tends to be pretty locked down and emulation was typically accomplished through jailbreaking the device which was something I dabbled in years ago with early iOS devices but I think that has changed a lot and isn't as easy or even as desirable to do these days, it used to be a case of benefits outweighing the effort and pitfalls but I don't think that is the case any longer and certainly not something you'd want to do on your main device, IE it's more trouble than it's worth. But that is my limited knowledge these days, perhaps there is an easy and or safe way to manage it these days so hopefully someone with more knowledge about it chimes in as I am sure many here would be interested.

  9. In my youth, I worked at and eventually managed a video store. I had amassed quite a VHS collection. When we moved here to British Columbia 20+ years ago to save space in our 1 bedroom condo it was decided to sell off the collection. There were rarities and hard-to-find titles, in the end, they were all sold off to a family video store just starting and knowing they would be used to help stock a small store I pretty much let them all go for parcticallly give away prices, instead of hagling over them all it turned out to be practically a donation since I felt I had enjoyed them for years and felt good knowing they would not end up collecting dust on a collectors shelf but rather continue to be enjoyed by customers since much of the library would never be found at any of the "Big Brand" video rental stores.

Though I no longer have a VHS library of movies VHS format holds great nostalgia and memories for me and always will.

I've had many VCR over my lifetime but currently, I only own these two which I’ve held onto and were rescued from the recycling bins. The first is the older 2004 RCA model DRC6300N this one is solid and feels very heavy to lift. The second is the Toshiba model SDV296KC. This 2012 model is light as a feather and it’s amazing comparing the two, I like them both because they are DVD players/VCR recorders (they do not record to DVD) I don’t have the original remotes for however, I can use most of the functions with the front controls or by using one of various programmable or Multi remotes on hand. In a pinch I could program one of my harmony remotes for it as well. For any VHS needs they work well, though I don't have a collection of movies any longer, I do like to dabble with recordings and creating some retro editing projects as well as using the tuners for various gaming old consoles.
