I know @Justin was kind in touting the show following the Missile Command Squad Challenge, and thank you for that plug. I am normally on Tuesdays but non-gaming stuff has forced an upcoming schedule change.

Episode 69 will air on Wednesday, November 17 at 9pm ET. I will be away for the first half of November and I will be unable to stream shows, much less get in a lot of gaming.

Episode 70 will air on Tuesday, November 30 at 9pm ET. It's scheduled after the Thanksgiving holiday here in the States.

So stop on by the stream tonight & check out some new gaming records along with new homebrews for the NES, GameBoy, and ZX Spectrum!

  3. Running behind due to non-gaming stuff, so here's the :28 promo for Episode 67 of Retro With Marco streaming TONIGHT at 9pm ET!

  9. Pluto TV

Ever hear of it? I didn't until I applied for a job. It's an ad-supported free streaming service. I've been watching a lot of shows that I grew up with as a kid (Family Ties, Facts of Life, and more). This week, I started my new job as TPM for international. I'm working with folks to bring Pluto TV to markets outside the US. I'm working for the first time in seven months, so my head is spinning a bit.

Recovering from heart surgery took a few months. I don't think I'm 100% but pretty close and certainly well enough now to work.

  10. The Kung Fu cart for Commodore 64 arrived this week, and it works really nicely. This is the product I've been wanting for a long time -- just load game images of any type onto a micro-SD, turn on the C64, and choose them from a menu. No typing, minimal waiting. It's so awesome.

And also a view of my home-made "safe" C64 power adapter.  I soldered in modern 5V and 9V bricks into a 5-pin DIN plug, and add in a Ray Carlson safety device just for full safeness.

  13. TUESDAY NIGHT CHAT!

I will be in the chat tonight (around 7:15pm Pacific).  My goal is to try a few rounds of emulated Cybermorph for the high score challenge.  Join me if you'd like to see how that goes.  Maybe you need guidance on setting up an emulator.  Maybe offer me some tips on the game.  Or whatever you'd like to chat about.

  14. Why, yes, I am spending my Sunday afternoon watching the 2020 Classic Tetris World Championship on Twitch!

    https://twitch.tv/classictetris

Spoiler Alert: We will have a new champion this year as 2-Time Champion, Joseph Saelee, lost in the 1st round of the Finals in 5 games.

I will add that watching these young gamers take Tetris to new heights is truly fantastic!

  16. 🥳 Thank you everybody for all the great birthday wishes!! 🎉

  17. I got laid off today, the first time in my career. When AT&T merged a bunch of companies (HBO, Turner, etc.) under the former Time Warner corp umbrella into a single entity WarnerMedia, we knew the new company would look to consolidate. It was a bit of a surprise given where I was situated organizationally, but a bunch of us were given pink slips. Because I got rolled up in a broad organizational move, it’s easy not to take this personally, so I’m glad for that. I had seen some friends struggle emotionally before.

My wife recently got a new job, and she’s still within the new employee benefits enrollment window, so at least I don’t have to worry about getting a new job quickly for health insurance reasons. For the first time, I won’t be the primary coverage member 🙂 Lots of new firsts.

Before folks feel too sorry for me, I am in a good position. First, I am grateful for an extremely stable career experience so far. I’ve experienced my share of company re-org and changes and always landed into a great place. The fact that this is my first involuntary job change is quite the feat in a 23 year career. Second, I’m also grateful that we will be given a nice severance package to ease the transition into the next gig. Third, I’m in an industry that is very robust and still hiring. And lastly and most importantly, God is good, and He is the Shepherd of my life. In Him, I find peace and rest.

I share this news here because I like the I/O community and wanted to open up more on a personal level to foster better relationships. Also, I’ll have more time to spend on the monthly challenge, so you have been warned 🕹🕹🤣🤣

@socrates63 I was last laid off in March 2014. A good friend of mine pointed out that unemployment is one of the few times (if only time) when we can truly relax. Since your first project involves food, you'll be able to enjoy this time even more lol.

Going that long without being a layoff victim is rare these days. (I have experience a layoff while living on both coasts.) I hope AT&T provided a severance package especially given your years of service.

It'll feel weird at first but you'll be able to devote time and energy to other home/personal projects before returning to the workforce.

  22. 👽 There’s a lot of hate for E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, and yet so many of us have wonderful memories of growing up playing this game. Nothing has left its mark on the legacy of Atari quite like E.T. It may not be the top 2600 game, but it has a lot of heart.

  25. I still cannot access this site from a laptop/desktop browser. Firefox & Chrome both block this site while Safari just hangs in place. While I'm writing this update from my phone, I'd much rather access this site from my laptop. Any suggestions?
