Same here! I think all three of us have had the same VCR at one point! I don't use that VCR anymore as I use a VCR/DVD player hybrid now. I think my sister plans on adopting that black one in the basement.

    @MaliciousCarp is that a Sharp?

It's Daewoo brand? it's nothing fancy, but I bought it new back in the day and I like it because it gets pretty good picture and sound.

Can I just say I dig your setup?

Both the VCR and System selector look similar to one's I've had. And I think I spy a Superman Super Friends figure I has as a kid!

And of course, bonus points for Svengoolie!

Thanks!  I really like how my game room turned out.  I would love to do a tour of it, but it is usually a mess (They way a good game room should be).  One of these days when I get it cleaned up I will make a video about it 🙂

  3. I have been playing the heck out of this one - and I finally got an improvement worth posting.

I feel like I have a sound strategy (split the non-shooting demons into bats, then go after the shooting demon.  Once she is spit, go after the non-shooting bat partner.  When she starts descending - shoot as many bats as possible to keep them from turning into shooters.  Once a demon makes it to the lowest level - repeat.)

Now I just need to work on my aim!

MC, if you want to play third-party 2600 cartridges on the 7800 and don't want to mess with the 7800 hardware, you gotta get the Lock-on 2600. I had tight fit issues with 2600 Activision cartridges on my 7800, and there was no way Demon Attack would fit. But this little adapter makes it buttery nice and smooth.

Whoa  that is awesome!  I had no idea that such a product existed!  thanks for the tip!

@MaliciousCarp you should mod the cartridge slot to make it easier to fit games in. You have to crack the ring around the cartridge slot or something. Maybe make a video on it.

I honestly don't want to go that route because I am a little scared of the 7800 cartridges not lining up as well or having loose connections.  Maybe a good way to go would be to make a huge cartridge slot and then print a few different cartridge adapters for each style of cartridge... October and November are usually mega-busy for me so I probably won't get to it any time soon, but that might be a good winter project.

I do have demon attack on my Harmony cart as well -- now that I know how the game looks and feels on the original cart I can play on that knowing that I Have the correct ROM installed.

4995 - First score so far. Playing on a 2600 with a genesis controller.

First time playing Demon Attack on the 2600. Picked up a copy at a local game store today after seeing the next challenge. Always wanted to check it out since I really like the Intellivision version.

The fact that you found a local game store that happened to have a copy in stock means that you have already won! 🙂

  7. When Windows 7 was still a thing - I used Windows Movie maker because it let me add menus and stuff (and publish a DVD image)

OBS can be tricky because you have to center the capture window and smartly choose your audio sources.  Once you get it set up though - I really like how simple it is to actually use.

It may be an extra step, but I usually run them through Handbrake to make the files a little smaller before I archive them.

  8. for slides (remember slides??) I bought a special slide scanner, but that was incredibly hard to use and I always got mixed results with it.  I had much better results setting up a clean screen in a dark room, using my projector, and taking pictures with a good camera that let me control the focus and exposure (Nikon D60)

As an added bonus - I didn't have to unload the slides from the drums that way.

  9. so, I have been doing the same!  I bought a USB adapter off Amazon that has composite and S video.  hook up a higher end VCR (4 head stereo) That  I found at Goodwill and I feed that into OBS to capture it.  It seems to work pretty great for me.  Before I got the USB adapter - I tried a Hauppage card in my desktop, but the USB adapter works much, much better.

Here is the one that I bought - it works great on Windows 10 with OBS

  10. On Friday Sarah Jane Avory released her latest game for the Commodore 64.

Here is my quick video review and some gameplay.

Listening to my video after posting it to Youtube- I realize that it sounds like a commercial... I promise that I am not associated with the game or author in any way - I was just really impressed by it and I have been playing a ton of it since Friday night 🙂

Here is the link to buy it on itch.io:

That's sad. I always assume I'm going to want to replay the game again. I must have beaten Luigi's Mansion 30 times by now. It's not a very long game. Though I won't ever sell it. That game right now goes for about $40 according to pricecharting.com. I could use that money right now to buy several other games that I want, like Ballblazer for 7800, Missile Command and Bowling for 2600, and Wave Race 64. I even have the 3DS remake so I could still play it in one form or another.

Though I'm not going to do that. I'd much rather wait a few months until I can afford to buy those games than get them now and say goodbye to Luigi's Mansion.

Another good example is Super Metroid. I've been replaying that game recently to help out others who might want to pick it up for the first time. It can be rather confusing to newcomers used to simple Atari games. Super Metroid is one of the pricier SNES games, going for about $50 at the moment. That's almost enough for a Nintendo Switch game. I could emulate Super Metroid, and I do have it on my 3DS's virtual console, but it's much cooler to say "I have this game" than "I have the ROM for this game on my 3DS".

The rarest game I own was one my dad's friend had and gave to him when he was done with it. Conker's Bad Fur day typically hangs out around the $80 range. I don't much care for the game, though I haven't really invested time into it. I think it's funny, but the game play isn't great. For Conker I could buy about 16 Atari 2600 games that I would probably enjoy more. Maybe I could even get a new system if I found one for cheap. I've always wanted an Odyssey 2. But what if someday I feel like playing it again? For most of my life, I hated Super Mario Sunshine with a passion. This June, I sat down and played more Sunshine than I ever had and had a blast. I never got around to beating the game, so I will have to continue on someday. What if Conker's Bad Fur Day is like Mario Sunshine for me?

    You know what I mean?

Yeah - I usually don't sell any games, but that was a while ago when money was a little more tight. Spending on fun stuff was not a priority and if I wanted new games I had to sell something off.  That one just happened to be worth the most at the time.

  12. My biggest regret is selling Dragonforce for the Sega Saturn.  I had a copy that I had bought when it was a new release and I sold it right when the price on it started to climb.

I thought that I wouldn't want to play it again because I had played through it so many times already.  At least I spent the money on more Saturn games, but I really want to play Dragonforce again!

  13. it is true that the trackball doesn't have the same weight and momentum as the original arcade cabinet, but it was a bit exaggerated due to leaning around my camera (I had that centered and I was trying not to block it).

The trackball controls about like any other home one that I have used (I have the sega sports pads and the Atari trackball) - if that helps.

The other thing that I should mention is that the stock spinner on that machine is not great.  It clicks as you turn it instead of gliding smoothly.  There are conversion kits to add an actual spinner, but I haven't upgraded mine yet.

I played it on an Arcade  1up machine in a game store in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. I don't know if the machine was broken, but the minuscule trak ball was puny, imprecise, and honestly horrible. I want to say it was the Asteroids cab. Nevertheless, if it was cheaper I would totally pick it up. I think @MaliciousCarp might have one, but maybe I'm thinking of someone else.

I do indeed have one! It is easier to talk about in video format, so here you go 🙂 (since it references this forum directly it is a link-shared video, not public)

One thing that I should mention is that you can get these fairly cheap if you keep an eye out for them.  I bought my cabinets refurbished. They were pre-assembled and had new control decks on them.  I got them for around $120 each (including the risers)

  15. I got Retroarch working on an Amazon Fire Tablet!

I managed to install the google play store (Don't ask me how, I seriously don't understand it... it involved downloading a bunch of questionable apk files and installing them in a magic order that made them work)

Once that was installed -- Retroarch worked immediately.  There are two Atari Lynx cores, I am not sure what the difference is, but it just seems to work!

Now I just need to figure out this game 🙂

Yo, @MaliciousCarp. I watched your video about making a knockoff Genesis controller into a 7800 gamepad. That's genius. I'm pretty cheap and don't want to spend the money on the Seagull adapter. Do you have a schematic or something for your project you can post here? This is an excellent idea.

Oh, those exact same controllers came with the Genesis flashback. They really are quite nice.

Those are still the gamepads that I use on my 7800 when I am not using my arcade sticks!

I used the same 7800 wiring schematic that I used for the arcade sticks (Originally Posted by WyluliWolf on AtariAge)

Good luck!  It was a really fun project!
