  1. 👍 Oh yeah, Everdrive for sure. These cartridges that run rom files are amazing. I don't want to get into collecting physical games beyond what I've collected already.
  2. The TG16 looks to be the console of my dreams -- its game library is strongly appealing to my sensibilities. I actually pre-ordered and got the mini (still unopened) but would prefer playing on actual hardware. That's one I may want in the future (is there anything that I don't want outside of Pokemon games? 🙄 😁) I got my Jaguar, composite cable, one controller, and three games for $300 from a local seller. With the conventions gone this year, local guys have been selling online regularly. I believe Pink Gorilla has a Jaguar for $350 for the console and probably controller (can't remember). With the extra games, composite cable, and no 10% sales tax, I figure I saved at least a Benjamin.
  3. Because of family circumstances, I find myself having to operate the family business (dry cleaners) this week. It's been extremely slow because of the pandemic, so I don't have much to do all day at the store. And then the 💡 finally went on in the dark recesses of this brain. I have an unused 20" Trinitron in the house, and I brought it to the store 🙂 And today, I brought the Jaguar and fired it up for the first time. Here are my impressions from playing 15 minutes of Cybermorph this morning. The original Jaguar controller feels fine and works well. I had read about how terrible it is. The Jaguar throws up some mean looking beautiful graphics! I haven't seen an Atari ST era game in person since the early 90s, and the look and style is very reminiscent of those times. I look forward to seeing ST games ported to the Jaguar. I am in heaven. Cybermorph looks very pretty on my Trinitron, and I'm using composite. I was thinking about getting the s-video cable later, but right now, I don't feel the need. The photo does not do it justice. Still trying to figure out the game display. The game feels very responsive. Initially, Skylar the AI reminded me of Ilia (the bald lady character from Star Trek: The Motion Picture). After playing a bit, Skylar looks a little scary and reminds the illustrations of the AI from the game System Shock (I've never played SS). I'm having fun with Cybermorph. I had read it wasn't that good and wasn't well received. The instruction manual was a fun read, and the backstory was humorously written. Also, I wanted to drop a thank you to the I/O and Justin for this high score challenge. If it wasn't for this occasion and the folks here, I would not have gotten a Jaguar and would have missed out on this beautiful machine.
  4. Congrats @SuperTrooper! Woohoo! I made the Top 5! Not that it means anything, but still, it sounds good. I'll take that as my consolation prize for the December giveaway 🏆 And yes, NSG, thanks for doing the videos. I think I may have said this before, but I don't know how you release so many videos a week. Even if short video or simply a gameplay video with no narration, it still takes significant time to edit and produce these things. Much appreciated!
  5. That's some serious Atari street cred right there 👍 😁 Are you going to do that McWill screen mod that I've heard about?
  6. That's quite the door prize and from a grocery store no less! I believe in today's dollars, getting a free 2600 alone is like getting a free PS5 or Xbox Series X.
  7. @Control Issues a whole lot of awesome classic titles on your list 👍 I love 1943 and the games in the series. It’s one of those games that I buy for all the various consoles that I own. What’s the story on Yars Revenge? How did you get it for free?
  8. Welcome, Rocker 🤘 I totally agree with you about homebrews. They really got me more excited about our beloved consoles. One other thing that unexpectedly added to the excitement for me has been participating in high score challenges. Justin runs high score challenges here in the I/O on various platforms. There’s also the I/O high scoreboard where you can compare and compete on your own timetable.
  9. Welcome to the I/O, Rocker! If you go to the AtariAge store front, there's a photo that shows all the new games in this release cycle.
  10. Welcome to the I/O, Josh! I was wondering earlier whether "DC" meant you were in the other Washington 🙂 I love DC comic characters. I'm also in the Evergreen state in the greater Seattle area. I should also add that I joined the I/O a few months ago as part of entering in NSG's giveaway and decided to stay.
  11. Ok, I jumped on the bandwagon and got myself a Jaguar a few minutes ago. I'd been thinking of getting one for a while, and the squad challenge gave me excuse reason to add another Atari console to the stable. I picked it up from a local gamer/seller.
  12. I got no skin in this conflict because, like Crossbow, I too was a part of the PC Master Race and only dabbled in console gaming in the late 90s. I recently got both SNES and Genesis. Both have incredible libraries with a lot of exclusives, so we retro gamers win. And piling on the SNES Mortal Kombat issue, for the longest time, Nintendo consoles and games were considered kid games. When you became older, you outgrew Nintendo stuff and moved on to big kid/adult gaming with Playstation, Xbox, etc.
  13. You're totally right, Harry. I didn't realize many of the VCS games were adaptations of 70s coin-op games. I think Night Driver is the only one that you've listed that I remember seeing or playing in the arcades.
  14. They didn't when I visited last Friday. I'm not sure if they ever posted having a Vectrex since I've been involved in retro gaming. I've seen a few Virtual Boys and those sell fast. Right now, they do have 7800, 5200, and 2600 Jr along with a few games that I normally don't see. There must have been an Atari collector who traded them in as I usually don't see Atari consoles at Pink Gorilla. Those Atari consoles are all in very nice condition. I was tempted to grab one (the Jr) or three 🙂
  15. I know that this is over the $100 limit, but I almost had my hands on a Vectrex for $350 with a bunch of games which then became $400 and then, poof, the seller flaked out and stopped responding. Oh well, it's for the best. I rather pay more and buy from someone who loved it, restored it, and was looking for a good home for it. Some day... Back to reality... I'd like Defender in the large black box for the Atari 8-bit or a loose 7800 cartridge of the following games to complete my NTSC 7800 set (Midnight Mutants is on its way 🎉): Mean 18 Ultimate Golf Planet Smashers Basketbrawl Motor Psycho Kung Fu Master Tank Command Mat Mania Challenge
  16. Seaquest Atari 2600 Difficulty: B High Score: 145,200 December 2, 2020
  17. Awesome! Congrats @Sabertooth and thanks to @btbfilms76 for the giveaway and spreading the knowledge about these cool paddles.
  18. Nice green jacket! Congrats, Rick. You really showed that Dad still got skillz.
  19. It's heartbreaking to read about the reactions of Puerto Ricans described in the article. Clearly, the observatory meant much more than a tool for scientific work.
  20. Is that ET plushie part of the giveaway? Please?
  21. Cyber Monday pick-up! I wasn't planning to get anything today, but a friend needed a DS Lite charger, so I went to a local retro gaming store and pick up some games while there. Does anyone have any information about the Activision Super Action Pak? Were there more such multi-carts? I assume this is a legit release and not a bootleg of some kind. The inside of the case is in bad shape. I picked it up because I'm an Activision fanboy. The Defender cartridge is something I found in the house while cleaning this morning. I was excited to find it because it's one of the few artifacts I managed to hold on to from my original 80s collection of Atari computers. They also had 5 DVDs for $5, and I saw The Man from Nowhere with the slip. I had to get that and added a few others to make the 5.
  22. I hear ya, Jesse. I usually don't buy games for the sake of collecting and especially games that aren't good 😉 You're a wise man.
  23. Awesome write-up, Harry! When I see mentions of Stratego and Minesweeper, you have my attention. I'll have to play this.
  24. Looking at this thread, it's amazing the number of arcade games the 2600 enjoyed. I suppose that shouldn't be a surprise given the 2600 enjoyed popularity when coin-op video games were king. Still, the sheer number is quite astounding. There are 2600 games listed in Ballblazer's post that I did not know were arcade games. As far as collecting for the 2600 is concerned, I mostly buy homebrews and hacks. I started collecting because of the box artwork on games by Atari. I probably have around 150 by Atari. With lack of space, I'm pretty much done buying 2600 games as I primarily play rom files with the Harmony Encore cartridge. I recently bought a few loose cartridges (waiting for delivery) to have some for future trades. The one subset of my 2600 games that I intentionally sought were games by Activision. I believe I am only missing H.E.R.O. and Cosmic Commuter. They're both very expensive, so I may call it good (enough).
