  1. Ok, here's what I took out. Even with what I took out, I still couldn't fit in a few things, so I'll save those for the next time. The box is leaving the house with a slightly bigger bulge than when it arrived -- kinda like mah belly after dinner I've been reconnecting with some 80s movies lately, so it's good to have these DVDs. I now have NES and N64 cartridges in the collection 🙃 Maybe I'll get the consoles later 😋
  2. The junk box arrived yesterday from @chas10e. It is heavy and bulging! Good thing it's a flat rate box. I can't believe some of the stuff that's in it. It's going to be tricky to figure out how to make room to fit in my stuff. @RickR I plan to send it your way tomorrow. And @HDN your box will go out tomorrow when I ship this one back to Rick. Thanks for waiting and sorry for keeping you waiting, but I wanted you to wait as long as I did 😄 That was part of my reasoning for not shipping it to you sooner.
  3. I also saw a few entries that I didn't agree with my shopping experience (primarily ebay). I suppose multiple factors can affect what we see in the marketplace that we frequent at any given slice of time, so the rarity guideline is just that, a guideline.
  4. I am currently using the d-pad on the 8Bitdo gamepad. Looking at the manual that Justin attached (figure 4-3), the original Major Havoc cabinet used a cylinder shaped roller that rolled only left and right. I read that several other game cabinets (e.g., Tempest) were converted to play Major Havoc, so the controls would be different on the converted cabinets.
  5. You can do it! Sounds like most of us are playing the game for the first time. The gameplay seems ahead of its time.
  6. @HDN Rick mentioned it early on. The first key is mastering the duck and jump maneuvers. Besides that, I try to eliminate as many agents as I can when riding on elevators. Killing agents is your biggest source of scoring points. Their point value increases from 100 to 150 from floor 20 or whatever floor it is once you get past the initial floors where all the floors are lit up. So, what I’m trying to say is I’m not rushing to get to the car in the garage. I try to score at least 8k-10k on each level. If I sped through the first level, I’d only score 5k-6k when I reach the car. The only other pointer I can think of is this. I do most of my kills while riding the elevator. I get the enemy to take a shot so I can shoot them safely without evading return fire while they reload. I do this by while coming down on the elevator, I pull back up the elevator when the bottom of the elevator reaches the chest of the enemy. He will draw his gun and shoot. I then go back down and kill him in safety. In the early levels, they reload slowly. Killing enemies on higher floors while riding up in the elevator is easier as I can kill them without exposing myself to their bullets and don’t need to get them to shoot first. I shoot right when the my gun clears the bottom of the floor and then move the elevator back down. I can try to video record this if it isn’t clear. One other tip is to avoid engaging in a shoot out while on a wide floor (where the elevator is on the left or right edge of the floor). You can easily get surrounded to the right and left. Also, when there are multiple enemies to one side of you, sometimes one will shoot high and the other shoots low and you can’t dodge both. This is why I like to shoot and kill while riding an elevator.
  7. Thanks @RickR 😆 the whole cloak and dagger spy premise was the reason why I loved Elevator Action as a kid. You get to pretend to be a nerdy looking James Bond. The one thing that's missing from the game is the Girl. The spy always gets the girl! Oh well, I guess the car will have to do 🚗
  8. Thanks @MaliciousCarp and it was a score I couldn't duplicate. Closest I got to it again was 46k or 47k.
  9. If you collect for the Fairchild system, Trimerous is available for sale in limited quantity. I assume it's a homebrew title. I've bought homebrews from atari2600land before. https://atariage.com/forums/topic/313665-the-for-sale-thread-for-trimerous-for-the-channel-f/
  10. @HDN go to https://www.arcadepunks.com/pi-images-downloads-page/. This is where I got the image my the RPi 3+. Find an image with what you want and the size that matches your memory card and you're set. The image comes and emulators and games.
  11. 43,300 -- I had heard of the name before but never seen nor played Major Havoc. I ❤️ vector graphics. The gameplay of this game is a bit more complicated than Elevator Action. The controls are simple enough but you have multiple distinct game mechanics from shooter to platforming in a Berzerk-like maze, and then there's the mini Breakout game. It truly is The Adventures of Major Havoc.
  12. Elevator Action Arcade Difficulty: Bonus Life at 10,000 Points High Score: 53,850 November 12, 2020
  13. Out of curiosity, I checked my collection of 200 2600 games. Out of three that are rated at 5 (Frankenstein's Monster, Rampage, Private Eye all CIB) and one that rates a 6 (Track & Field loose cartridge).
  14. I found out about a couple of very fun and rare games recently through the high score challenge on the AA Facebook group: Mines of Minos and Room of Doom. I never heard of these games until I played them a month or two ago. I looked into buying them and they commanded high prices so I figured they must be rare.
  15. Hello @Crash_Corrigan! That’s quite the list. I will have to look up what’s rare in my collection. I never bought any 2600 game with rarity in mind. This is how I collected my 200+ in box games: Pac-Man because of nostalgia Activision games because their games wowed me as a kid (I’m missing HERO and Cosmic Commuter) Atari releases for the amazing box art Data Age games because I thought the boxes looked cool Imagic games because the boxes looked cool
  16. I've heard good things about Alan Wake which is a console exclusive (also available on PC). Lots of good games. I guess it depends on what types of games you like. I still play Halo Reach for its firefight mode (waves of enemies) after all these years.
  17. Definitely try out the Uncharted series. It was the reason why I bought the PS3. They felt more like interactive movies to me and were a lot of fun (I played normal difficulty, I think). I was looking to play games with great stories, and my friend hounded me to get the PS3 to play Uncharted. I also enjoyed the Resistance series. It's a first person shooter and a console exclusive. There are many well regarded console exclusives and some have been mentioned already (e.g., Last of Us). God of War also comes to mind.
  18. I haven’t modded anything since the PSP, I think. I do have the Wii and WiiU still hooked up in the family room, but they get no use since the kids have moved on to more modern stuff. I’ll play them... someday.
  19. Great job @HDN for modding your WiiU and getting on the scoreboard. I’m super happy that the high score challenge afforded me the opportunity to play one of my favorite arcade games from childhood (and also dust off my Raspberry Pi). I don’t think I ever made it out of level 1 back then. I’m glad to see that age hasn’t deteriorated what little skill I had for this game but actually improved it 💪 and it didn't cost me any quarters this time
  20. Nice! Glad you like them @MaliciousCarp. Hope you got the fake Activision letter as well for the You Suck patch. It's pretty hilarious. I received Tom's new patches and the Bridge patch earlier this week.
  21. Woot! I only saw the schedule now. I'll try to log in later today. 🍀 🍀 Stormy One
  22. 53,850 -- the new 8Bitdo gamepad is really paying off One tip... at the basement level where the exit is, if you happen to find yourself far away from a red door, don't try to traverse your way to it. Go for the exit elevator and travel all the way down. If you get to the exit and missed a red door, the game will automatically transport you directly to the red door. It's safer and easier and faster than trying to make your way across the screen.
  23. I didn't realize that this challenge ends at 11:59 pm PST November 14, 2020 For some reason, I thought it ran the entire month of November.
  24. Hello, Wade! A fellow five-one'er here! The high score challenge spans a month so come join the fun. We're playing Elevator Action this month.
