  1. The demon thing, maybe it's an influence of the popularity of D&D during the 80s? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I watched Exorcist on TV as a kid in elementary when my parents were out. That movie was freaky and scary -- I still haven't watched the original nor any of the sequels since. I'm not a fan of horror movies outside of the old B/W Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney, etc. movies. I think the only scary movie I enjoyed was the original Nightmare on Elm Street which I believe we watched as a class in high school (can't remember why we watched it).
  2. Starting off with 14,890. I remember watching TV ads for Demon Attack as a kid but never got to play it or any Imagic game. I always found the name of the game to be odd. It clearly took inspiration from Phoenix with the bird-like attackers in the early stages. I guess a game with aliens or space references were too common back then. I only learned a few months ago that Imagic was started by folks who left Activision.
  3. Thanks for the knowledge share, @HDN. I'm practically Jon Snow when it comes to Nintendo and Sega (and a lot of other things actually).
  4. Mail call -- I bought some Genesis repros from an AtariAge forums user. These are either unreleased games or games released officially only in Japan but have been fan translated. I generally don't buy many reproductions, but these looked interesting. I also got a GBA multi-cart, and I was surprised to find that he threw in a free GB game. PS: I need to dust the piano before taking photos 🤦‍♂️
  5. Remember the day when Denny's started offering breakfast food all day? Game changer
  6. I'll throw you a curve ball. My favorite breakfast growing up was... ramen, Korean ramen that is. Ramen is the people's snack or fast food of choice in Korea. I'd put the pan on the stove with heat turned up and fill it with water, noodles, and soup packet. I'd run to the bathroom, brush my teeth etc. and when I returned, the ramen would be ready 🙂 Before I give the impression that ramen is breakfast food for Koreans, it's not. My friends look at me weird when I tell them that I grew up with ramen for breakfast. With age and health concerns, ramen has become a delicacy and only tasted once in a long while which is said. I still prefer soup to start the morning though. EDIT: the kind of ramen I'm talking about and in the traditional sauce pan
  7. 😧 This is the reason why I don't have complete love and nostalgia for the XE and ST line to this day although I owned them back in 80s.
  8. Back in the day, I only knew about the 4-switch woodgrain 2600, 4 port 5200, and later the Lynx. I hadn't known about the various 2600 models, 7800 nor Jaguar until recent years. I'm still very new to Atari consoles, and have spent most of my time this year with 2600 games and some 5200 and very little 7800 games. I love the 2600 and 5200 games, but to be honest, the games from the 7800 era, including NES, haven't grown on me yet. The graphics and color palette just seem a little foreign to me. I think it's probably just a matter of spending more time with the games. The first time I played 7800 Xevious several months ago, I was very turned off by the flat graphics and color, but playing it recently, I have a much better appreciation for it. And the story is the same with 7800 Asteroids.
  9. Mines of Minos Atari 2600 Difficulty: B/B High Score: 5,690October 7, 2020
  10. I bought it from AtariAge forum user ChrisKewl. You can find more info in this AA thread.
  11. Good to know that this is a common issue. I've always been afraid that I might damage the console. The cracking-the-ring solution sounds tempting. Speaking of tight fits, I got this attachment "Lock-on 2600" for the 7800 to solve the issue of tight 2600 cartridges or 3P 2600 cartridges that simply wouldn't fit (looking at you, Demon Attack) into a 7800. It's very well made. I bought it a month or two before buying an actual 2600 to play 2600 games. I suppose if you're using a Harmony cart to play 2600 on the 7800, then it's not necessary. I found it interesting and wanted to try it out anyway.
  12. Xevious Atari 7800 Difficulty: Intermediate Score: 105,920 October 10, 2020
  13. Rampage and Double Dragon both arrived today from different sellers -- eleven more to go. Is it just my 7800? Why are these cartridges so hard to insert and take out? Even if I had all the game cartridges, I may still get that SD cartridge for the 7800 just so I don't have to deal with the inserting and removing the cartridge from the console.
  14. All you fancy people with pseudo-science mumbo jumbo -- I just whip out the Bag of Holding
  15. Harry, you need to record the video of your guitar-playing and put it up on your youtube channel!
  16. I've always been a Nintendo fan because I love Mario, DK etc. from the arcades in the early 80s. And I agree with you that Genesis and SNES have their strengths. I saw the GG when it first came out, and at the time, I was not impressed with the washed out screen, poor battery life, and the bulk of the handheld. I preferred my GB even if it didn't have color and no backlit screen. Times have changed and so has perspectives although I'm not a big handheld fan. I'll take a look at the GG Sonic video.
  17. Last week, there was a give-away by a local gamer/seller to celebrate the growth of the local gamer Facebook group. I won a Genesis cartridge and while I went to pick it up, I got a Genesis model 2 from him for $20. I already had the Genesis arcade joystick (use with 5200) and now with a game in hand, it made sense to grab the console since it was pretty cheap. @HDN send me your address before I ask Rick for it. Consider it a Christmas gift from your I/O "twin" -- we arrived here together.
  18. Wow, if we have someone in California, we'd hit all four corners of the contiguous states. Gaming wants -- Genesis and SNES games as I just got started and don't have many, especially Genesis (I only have Sonic 2). I don't have any schedule conflicts and anytime is fine with me. @HDN send me your name and mailing address and I'll send you something when I mail the box to its next destination so you can partly participate 😉
  19. Good for you, Harry. I'm only rediscovering the joys of 80s gaming nearly forty years later. 230-ish sounds like a great collection. I didn't start building a physical gaming library until four or five years ago when I got into retro gaming. It may actually be more beneficial not to have a lot of disposable income as it helps you to focus on things that really matter the most to you. Otherwise, you get into my situation where you try to pare down the collection to more personally meaningful stuff. And above all else, hold on to what you've collected so far. Otherwise, disposable income or not, those things may become expensive or incredibly rare or both later down the line. Speaking of Christmas 🎄 we're only a month away before we're inundated with holiday music 🎶 I can almost hear the sleigh bells ringing.
  20. I've only had my Atari consoles for a few months. The pace of my purchases to add games to my library has far exceeded my ability to play them, and that's been true for any gaming platform that I've gotten games for 🙂 As far as how many games have I actually played? Less than 5% but that's what retirement is for 🙂 But in all seriousness, I may pare down my games collection as my collection is pretty large. Earlier this week, I removed all my Playstation Vita and GameCube games from the shelf to make room for my Atari games. I mentioned this in another thread, but this is part of my thinking around evaluating my collection and keeping those that mean the most to me (mainly for space considerations).
  21. 7800 Xevious is pretty good port of the arcade game. It could be better, but it certainly is more faithful to the arcade version than 5200 Xevious. I'm looking forward to see the 2600 homebrew Zeviouz. It looks and sounds very good and is a port of the 7800 game code. 7800 Galaga is also pretty good port of the arcade game. I remember playing Food Fight in the arcades. I don't recall anything special about it as far as the game itself goes. But the idea of food fights was pretty popular with the kids in the 80s, and food fights actually happened in school cafeterias -- I've seen a few, some bigger than others. I haven't played 7800 Food Fight yet.
  22. With recent cartridge-only pick up of Rampage and Double Dragon (on the way), I'm down to 11 remaining for the official NTSC set. By the way, I found that GooodDealGames.com sells the fixed Impossible Mission cartridge. I'll pick that up at some point. 4. Ikari Warriors 10. Midnight Mutants 18. Mean 18 Ultimate Golf 25. Planet Smashers 27. Pete Rose Baseball 28. Basketbrawl 29. Motor Psycho 33. Kung Fu Master 42. Scrapyard Dog 44. Tank Command 45. Water Ski
  23. Never heard of this one either (not that I know much about NES) but when I glanced at the screen shot at the top of the thread, it reminded me of another construction site platformer -- Hard Hat Mack.
  24. Well, if a Pac-Man Ghost Light is a prize, then sign me up! 🙂 I donated under Young Park and submitted for employer match.
