greenween reacted to Justin in My Atari 7800 Kiosk
I thought I'd share some pictures of my Atari 7800 Kiosk that I assembled during the earliest days of this website, in 2001. This is not an original kiosk from Atari as to my knowledge there was never an official Atari 7800 retail kiosk, aside from Atari's display at the 1984 Consumer Electronics Show - so I decided to make my own. Unfortunately this kiosk no longer exists and these are likely the only pictures I have. I may attempt to build another one of these kiosks sometime in the future.

I made this kiosk mostly using the structure of a generic Toys R Us game kiosk from that time, along with some other components and custom parts. The Atari 7800 Kiosk is about 80% complete in these pictures. Custom "Atari 7800 ProSystem" signage, controller mounts, custom wiring and a larger Sony Trinitron TV were added a bit later on. Custom Atari artwork was made for the sides of the kiosk which you would not have been able to see in these pictures. Additional games would hang from the back pegboard panel on either side of the first 7800 box, and a more substantial set of games were displayed on the two shelves below. Atari 7800 systems and accessories were displayed on the bottom shelf, and Atari Lynx systems and games were displayed on the upper shelf. All items displayed were brand new.

I had considered mounting a flat screen monitor against the back panel where you see the first Atari 7800 box hanging, but I opted not to do this. While I wanted the kiosk to be really cool, I also wanted it to look and feel as if it could have plausibly been used in a retail space during the 7800's lifespan. Flatscreens were pretty new in 2001, and that wasn't really the feel I was going for.

These pictures popped up when I found some old images from the earliest days of this website (2000-2002) on an old laptop this week. There's some really cool stuff in there that I can’t wait to share with you over coming weeks. I'll be posting more soon in a new thread giving you a glimpse into life at Atari I/O / Atari7800.com back in the day. Be sure to follow our Facebook and Instagram as I'll be posting on there too! Enjoy

I'm glad you guys like your stuff & hopefully Greenween will like his when he gets it tomorrow.

It's my pleasure to give back to this amazing community & its members, even in a small way. You guys have been great to me & I don't have the space for this stuff any more and I have no emotional attachment to any of it. Hopefully it will find loving homes with you guys or someone else.

    Enjoy!

This wasn't a part of the Junk Box contest, this was just the amazing generosity of Mr. Surge!

I ask to trade for three NES games and he sends me a box of the finest loot!

    I'm blown away, thank you!

Thanks for posting that video.  What fun!  Great stuff Stormsurge!  The manauls are really cool.  My favorite item (and it's hard to choose) is the complete Gamecube game.  Looking forward to some NSG reviews on these games.

    THAT WAS FAST!!!!

Spoiler Alert: I'm working on a review of Buster Douglas Boxing, which I got from Rick, and the manual came just in time. And manuals in general are really helpful to me, since a get a lot of games loose, and when I want to review them, I have to hope to find a manual scan online, which in the case of Buster Douglas Boxing, I couldn't find at all (I was using a picture of the arcade marquee for Final Blow, for my research, lol).
    This box was awesome!

    THANK YOU STORMSURGE!!!!!

I was told that i needed a pinball machine to properly display the new mini arcades, but i think pp does the job nicely.

Also i tried them out yesterday and love them. The frogger doesnt have a built in light so you jeed to be sitting under a light, but thats not a big deal.

The only thing i dont like about space invaders is it uses 2 screen so you have to keep going back and forth on each screen. They are both fun games and i recommend getting them if you dont already have em

Ok here it is. I did some more work on it. Added more stuff to it. Top are my boxed handhelds. First shelf are my gamecube and wii games (still have some more wii games to add)

Second shelf is ps2, xbox, and my loose genesis games. I dont have many loose genesis games. I also need to add more ps2 games later.

And the bottom is my ever growing vhs tapes collection. The thrift store i go to has this really nice cashier who told me that they throw away tapes all the time so she lets me get them for less than 50 cents

I bought this Atari CX22 trak-ball about a year ago and have no use for it. I assume this was meant for Atari computers? It seems pretty useless for the 2600/7800. Looking to trade it for some 2600, 5200 or 7800 carts. I'm guessing it's only worth maybe $15 - $20 so I don't expect much. If interested send me a list of your extras and how many you want to trade and we'll make a deal.

I have a Light Sixer that has horrendous RF interference. I tried everything I could think of to fix it, but eventually gave up on it.
I wonder if any of this would help it.

I would never collect them just because they seem like trash to me, gameplay as well as content. However, if I found one in a box somewhere I'd have no problem selling it to someone who wanted it.
