  1. The UNO Cart - from The Brewing Academy. What is it? A simple, inexpensive SD multi-cart for the Atari 8-bit computers. Load XEX/ATR/CAR/ROM image files onto a micro-sd, and load them on real hardware using a menu. More info and pricing: http://www.thebrewingacademy.com/ Also available on ebay (search for "Atari UNO") RickR Review: Pros: The menu works well. I love the "Find" feature, which makes it very easy to quickly find and load the game you want. ATR files load FAST. ATR files are essentially floppy disk images. Inexpensive. Very good support via AtariAge or directly from the maker. Comes with an excellent paper manual. Nice cartridge shell included. Cons: No joystick support in menu. It's kind of cumbersome to use the arrow keys to find stuff. Use the "Find" feature instead. Only for XL/XE computers. Won't work on 400/800. Remember to hold down "Option" key when loading ATR files (to disable Basic). Summary: If you have an XL or XE computer, GET THIS! It is excellent. A very inexpensive way to have almost every piece of software available for the 8-bit computers. It works well. A+.
  2. Same here. The wii is great for NES emulation, isn't it? SNES too, but you need a gamecube controller for that.
  3. It just seems right that chas10e got the high score AND won the random drawing. Nicely done. That instagram live feed is pretty neat Justin. Thanks for hosting -- great job!
  4. I agree. I loved EG magazine back then. But reading it again now highlights that it wasn't as good as what we have now. I think, too, that they wielded a lot of power in the industry being the first and biggest magazine. I wonder if their reviews had the power to make or break a given game's sales? Did the power go to their heads? Egos got involved? So many questions. I've also been to a Tod Frye talk where he used 2600 Asteroids as an example of an arcade port in which they took liberties with colors, and thus deduced he could do the same with Pac Man. It's 35 years ago. He's a human being. We should just let it go. Peace to him, I say. He's a big part of the Atari story, no matter what anyone thinks about 2600 Pac-Man. I think it's great that he's willing to come to shows and talk about those old times. There is simply no need to bash the guy for 35 years for it.
  5. I totally understand too Atarileaf. I've been downsizing my collection too (not to the extent you have....yet). I do hope you come back here often to try out the games on the High Score Squad. Those can be done via emulation, and it's really fun to play the game with the other users here to get tips and such. It feels really good to me to really focus and play the games instead of being out on the hunt for more stuff to buy. I hope you'll give it a shot. Willie -- your videos are truly great. Don't you go downsizing now!
  6. It's the same deal at Portland Retro Gaming Expo. The 7800 has never had a big presence, and it's diminishing over time. A lot of the older systems are the same. 2600 stuff, for example, is no longer plentiful. And the 2600 stuff they do put out for shows is dirt cheap, but no one buys it. The AtariAge booth is usually the one place where the 7800 really shines. And their secret is to have systems out to play and a lot of new games to play and buy.
  7. How exciting. Congratulations to you.
  8. And also -- GOOD LUCK to everyone on that totally awesome raffle. Circus Atari is a great boxed game to have. The cover art is a little weird, but the purple makes it SWEET.
  9. We really need people to understand that it's all about that nerd cred. And for everyone -- it's about having fun, sharing tips, and getting better at the game. Post your score -- even if it isn't "top". And if you've never tried the game before -- even better. A perfect opportunity to try a great game. I meant to post more tips for this game. I found that if I kept my eyes focused on the middle of the screen, I could track the clowns a lot better. Do not let your eye go up into the balloons, as there is too much going on up there. Too many distractions. Focus on the middle and keep the trampoline tracking the clown the whole time. It's really hard, since it takes so long to rack up points in this game. Takes a lot of concentration.
  10. Wow! Thank you Justin for offering that sweet prize. Great score Chas. I tried a few more times, but ended up in the 7,000 range.
  11. Aha, here's where things get interesting. Only someone with insider info would have ever known that Yars' was originally intended to be Star Castle. I'm pretty sure I never knew that until many years later. So the theory that the editors of EG held grudges and knew more than they let on is plausible. And I can vouch for Yars' being beloved from day 1 of release. Many of my buddies had it and it was a phenomena for a while. No one I knew thought the graphics were bad. On the contrary, they were really good. No flicker. Fast action. It's a classic. There's definitely something going on there with Bill Kunkel. One thing to remember is that EG magazine was a victim of the great crash. I remember the magazine switched staffs and fizzled out very very quickly. So maybe they did have grudges against whoever they thought was responsible.
  12. OK. I stuck through to episode 6, where things finally get interesting. I'll proceed now with more enthusiasm.
  13. A recent Patreon-exclusive video by The Nosweargamer inspired me to hang this little shelf for knick-knacks above my computer monitor I found the shelf at Goodwill for $2 and gave it a coat of white paint. I think I need more knick-knacks now.
  14. Seriously! I guess it's still hard to find. If you need one Greenween, I'm pretty sure I can get one at the Target by my work.
  15. ** SOLD ** In case anyone is having trouble finding one in the store, I have a Super Nintendo Classic mini for sale or trade. Please PM me if interested. Comes with everything it originally came with an works perfectly.
  16. That's true. Makes the game a lot of fun, that's for sure. And I think you may be right in the first place. Some people have gotten the same effect by frying instead of just holding down reset.
  17. I don't think that's considered "frying". Just a bug maybe? I remember Pitfall 2 had a frying effect where you'd start somewhere different.
  18. The joystick adapter works great. I think the 3D case would be very nice to have. The adapter is kind of flimsy when connected. Here's a picture of my setup. I have the 32K RAM sidecar and a FlashROM cartridge.
  19. 32" Trinitron! The very peak of CRT picture quality. So how many people did it take to lift it?
  20. Here's some pics of my collection that I made during the sale.
  21. I had a subscription for most of the run. I found the first issue at K-Mart while looking at Atari VCS games and was immediately hooked. I sold my complete set of Electronic Games a few years ago. Issue #1 alone brought in close to $100. A lot of people ask me how I could sell something like that? Well, they took up a lot of room. And I didn't have the means to store them properly for long-term preservation. They were just sitting in a crate in my garage. I felt like every time I pulled out out to read, I was diminishing the value. When you get that fear of even touching your stuff -- when you are no longer really enjoying it -- I find for me personally -- that's the time to sell it. I don't ever want to have stuff I fear to touch and can't use. Furthermore, my set was very well used. I read them cover to cover multiple times. For the money I got, given the condition, I felt like the value would never be higher. I did keep a book called "Confessions of the Game Doctor" by Bill Kunkel, one of the founders of the magazine. It's a fascinating read and has a ton of stories specific to that era of videogaming. If you ever find a copy of that book, I highly recommend it. I'm asking myself right now -- any regrets for selling? My brain says "Nope". So there you go. Having the PDF versions is good enough for me.
  22. Ah, the ol' "blank slate". Have fun with it. Looks like a really nice space.
  23. Episode 3 = more of the same. More Judy ice flashbacks? Yep. But don't worry, she finally solved her issue by unbolting some brackets. Also of note -- the robot that just saved and completely dried out their sunken ship is now barely capable of wiping parts with a rag. Standing guard in front of a closet seems like the logical thing to do instead of killing the actual threat. What's weird is how the show seems more aimed towards kids and families....yet the Dr. Smith character is way too intense for that audience. Murder! I'm giving this one more episode. So far, it's been way too slow moving for me. Fact that is only of interest to me: Parker Posey shares my exact birthday -- year and all.
  24. Any of the Burgess Meredith episodes, with "Time Enough at Last" being the highlight. There's just something about this actor that fits the show to a tee. "To Serve Man". Richard Kiel as the main alien is just about the most perfect casting of all time. "It's a Good Life". Billy Mumy, the creepy jack-in-the-box, the absolute perfect story. "Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?". Wonderful ensemble cast. I love the ending. The Martian is the only person I know who could hold an N64 controller correctly. "The Howling Man". Terrifying portrayal of the devil.
