  1. A sad happy birthday to River Phoenix, who would have been 47 today. Died too soon.

  2. Sweet. I'm not sure, but I think 11 participants (12 if you include the host) is our biggest junk box yet! YOU GUYS ROCK!
  3. If you have some time, take a look at some of the past junk box posts to get an idea of what people take out and what they put in. That's probably the easiest way to get a good impression. As nosweargamer said, it's pretty much gaming related, mostly retro. Pop culture items are good too. DVD's of 80's movies are good. PM me if you need more info.
  4. Updated list: nosweargamer (TN) Ballblazer (MD) Starbuck66 (MI) - vacation mid-Sept. chas10e (ME) AtariBrian (NY) MalakZero (CA) jmjustin6 (GA) Willie! (NC) correagonzales (NY) - Out Sept 2-6 greenween (CO) On the fence: Atari Creep What a tremendous turnout! Thanks guys. I'm loading up the box and will start working on the shipping order.
  5. Here's one on an 80's icon: the McBarge
  6. ** UPDATE ** I've started decorating the box. That is all.
  7. TAC 2 - very short impression here: http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/2072-the-atariio-collective-2600-joystick-collection/?do=findComment&comment=25532 You should post your joystick reviews in that thread too. By the way, I think I have an extra Slik Stik if you ever want to trade. Slik Stick and the Kraft joystick are my favorites.
  8. Nice joystick reviews btb! I stick with my trusty Slik Stik for Pac Man.
  9. 2 cents? How is that even possible? The Walmarts here have ridiculous clearance prices. Like a 4 megabyte (yes MEGA) SD card for $20 (original price $25).
  10. PS - bonus points for using the fancy word "burnish". I may burnish mine with a ShamWow, as that will add even more fanciness.
  11. I love this! I just happen to have a roll of that aluminum tape for dryer vents. Adding this to my projects list. THANKS!
  12. Very good advice. I also clean any cartridges new to me too. A quick alcohol and q-tip wipe down will keep your cartridge slot pristine. Game safely, people.
  13. I always wondered if the Sears-exclusive branding helped or hurt Sears' sales. Back then, most of the kids I knew avoided Sears labeling. The consoles themselves, though, do look really nice. A little chrome instead of orange. Silver face plate. And the burled wood-grain front.
  14. If it's trak-ball compatible, this would be a killer title for the 5200. 5200 Missile Command and Centipede with trak-ball are must-own games for that system. They take the 5200 up to another level. A level of control that you can't find on any other system.
  15. sounds like upside to me. Maybe there's abandoned locations in your area to explore...
  16. I could do assembly on the 8-bit back in the day, and it was quite interesting. Not sure I'd want to go back to that.
  17. PS - one of my sons just about jumped out of his skin when he noticed them for the first time.
  18. Why: I just think they are cool. They are real...someone's grandparents or something. It would be a crime to throw them out. A real conversation piece. The stuff on my garage walls is pretty random. But the biggest reason -- these remind me a lot of Disney's Haunted Mansion. And that's just plain cool.
  19. Nope. But they do have an interesting history. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unisonic_Products_Corporation
  20. My other Unisonic Pong has a light gun with Tiger Electronics on it. I wonder if Unisonic became Tiger?
  21. Who's going to watch the eclipse on Monday? It'll be just like 1979 again!

    1. Atari 5200 Guy

As long as weather holds out we plan on it. Our grocery store is even shutting down for it. Not sure about other locals. In metropolis below us all hotel rooms have been filled at four hundred a room. Crazy stuff.

  22. Check out this creep show I hung up in my garage. My wife gave me these (we have no idea who they are). They are in very bad shape. The paint is almost like a chalk. Still, they add a very spooky element to my workspace. However, if I suddenly disappear, please contact the Ghostbusters for me.
