I love it!
I don't remember the exact TV, but that remote is something my family had in the past. I think it was for a gigantic 32" Zenith that was our main TV before the world switched to flat panels.- MaximumRD, sramirez2008 and socrates63

New cost reduced "R" models just announced to mixed response in the Evercadeverse.
This is great, assuming it has the wifi updates. I'll probably jump in on the VS-R.

S5 - E3 "Jinaal"...it was OK, but....
SpoilerI think this episode hammers home what bothers me about Discovery...here we are 800 years in the future of TNG, and we go to Trill. Great! I sure hope they show what's different about Trill. What of Dax? Nope.
What we get is fine. They have a nice balance of action vs. exposition. Book and Michael work well together. The solution to their puzzle is very Star Trekky...which is good.
But that ending. So dumb. Not a single person looks at Moll's face??? What of this glorious Trill security? And how the heck did she even know where and exactly when to go? I'm so sorry, but I'm not buying this part at all. Think about it...they wouldn't let Michael even beam down without answering a riddle, yet a KNOWN FUGITIVE gets in with no issue.
I'll leave on a positive. Raynor is a good addition. Adds a little friction. He's an ass, but relatable. Paired with way too informal Tilly = perfection. Very well done.

I believe so! I don't know for sure since I don't have a VS or EXP....but I know those two have a "Library" app that shows all of the titles released, and that they've just updated a couple of those to "Legacy" status.
On-line release notes don't show a date, but I suspect the latest one is very recent.

Maybe it's DiamondOS since that's the only Atari 8-bit GUI I know of, it came on a cart and had DiamondPaint & DiamondWrite as available apps.
I cannot find the disks. I know it wasn't cartridge based. Maybe it was GOS. In any case, I think I need a memory upgrade for my brain.
-
Yeah, I'm sure it is something similar, but I can't remember the name of what I had. I'll try to find time to go find those disks.
It was very similar to GEOS, as I know it included a really nice word processor, a spreadsheet, etc in addition to the sweet graphical user interface.
-
I'm pretty sure I owned a copy of Atari GEOS back in the day. Maybe it was some other graphical interface. But I'm pretty sure it was GEOS. I still have the disks somewhere.

Big influence on USB, that’s a fun story if you read into it. I like to credit Atari for the USB 😛
Yep! I like to say the Atari 8-bit computers were very elegant in their design.

Now I don't remember if the Atari had expansion devices but if they did add memory expansion, Disk Drives, Modems etc... how did they manage space wise?
Atari used a simple cable for external devices (it is called an SIO cable) and you daisy chain them together. So you can stack or put them wherever you wish. Most devices had two SIO ports on the back...one to connect to the computer and one to connect the next device.
Commodore was similar, but they also had a separate port for tape drives.
I agree with your assessment that the PBox for TI is way too big for modern usage. Plus it is easily replaceable with modern SD cart solutions.
Although I have a few small tube TV's, I much prefer to use analog LCD for these old computers. I think they produce really sharp images, and they take up MUCH less space.

S5, E2 - Ah, that was much better. They toned down the action (and yelling). What was here made more sense.
I enjoyed this episode much more.

I finished season 1 last week and will start season 2 soon. Thanks for recommending Discovery to me. I’ve been loving it. The tone and style and most everything is definitely a departure from TOS and TNG, and I am good with that. The characters have depth, and I appreciate that. Looking forward to season 2 and beyond.
I'm going to suggest a switch over to "Strange New Worlds" for you, as it REALLY good. You'll get a flavor of that in Season 2 Discovery. So maybe watch season 2 and then cut over.

All:
There's a great new TI newsletter available for everyone interested in the TI computers. Please take a look here: https://www.chicagotiug.org/chicago-times-newsletter
We're also lucky enough to have creator @John Behnke here.
Please spread the word and make sure you ask any questions you might have or help you need here in the atari.io forums.

I can appreciate everyone that can look at these machines objectively. All of them have their plusses and minuses. But mostly, they all offer a ton of retro fun.
I was thinking of putting together a quickie "Retro Gaming on TI for New Users" guide here. Just a way for anyone that has interested know what they need to get started. But boy, it sure does add up quickly. Computer (but not a beige one), set of joysticks. 32k sidecar, a flashrom of some kind, voice module (and then do the 5V power fix)....it gets complicated fast.

What negative responses do people have for these? Just grousing because they recently bought a new console?
