Here's a video on Facebook that is beyond awesome.  I'm not sure if it's possible to pull it off there, so here's a link:

PS Justin - we need to do something about the broken CAPCHA on the sign up page.  I invited a bunch of new folks to the past few challenges, but they are unable to create a new account on the forums.

Play on: Real Hardware / Dedicated Console / MAME / Emulation OK! ✔
Squad Challenge ends 11:59 pm PST September 30th, 2018

Scores must be achieved between September 15th through September 30th, 2018. Screen captures are not allowed as they are easily manipulated for falsified scores. Multiple submissions are permitted. The player with the highest score at the end of the competition is the victor!

Eligibility: Anyone can join in. All players are welcome!

Play Rules: Games may be played on real hardware or emulation, using any controller or keyboard, following rules and game settings as delineated in the Squad Challenge. Enhancements and hacked versions of this game are not allowed.

Difficulty Level: Game 1, Difficulty B. These settings permit One Player and enable you to control the direction of your missiles after they have been fired by "steering" them with your Joystick Controller.
Fair Play: Players should play fairly, be honest, and have fun! Falsified scores will result in your immediate removal from the site. It goes without saying that no use of cheats, hacks, cartridge frying, enhancements, Photoshop, subterfuge, or any other unfair advantage is allowed. Everybody hates a cheater.

Welcome to our 43rd Squad Challenge! River Raid is Carol Shaw's Activision masterpiece. One of the best selling and most loved Atari 2600 games of all time, it's also been one of the most requested for a Squad Challenge. It's also pretty easy to get your hands on, so hopefully we'll have lots of members participating. River Raid can be found on many Activision compilations and Atari Flashback systems. Let's see how far you can get. Enjoy!

PREPARE TO QUALIFY!! Congratulations to all who participated! Consider this my personal shoutout to RickR, Atari Creep, BTB, Kid A, chas10e, kamakazi20012, No Swear Gamer, and our Mayor, Mr. Greenween. I love when we get a great turnout in these events and I think it's really cool that each and every one of you posted lap times. Atari Creep said it best in his Pole Position II video, it's not about stressing out to get the best lap time or highest score, it's about participating with a great group of people and just having a good time playing these games. So thank you to each and every one of you for being here! Also, I've disqualified myself from winning any course that other people posted lap times for. I don't want to win my own contests! That's like somebody throwing a party for themselves. People do it, but it doesn't look good and they aren't well liked. I love to participate though and I want you guys to beat me, badly. Nobody else posted lap times for Suzuka though so I am leaving that course up, and I will be submitting lap times to the Scoreboard. It's great to see so many members showing up for this event and sharing their lap times here, I hope it was a good reason to break out the Atari 7800 and play this game. We may do another Grand Prix again next year. Congrats to everyone who played! And a VERY special thank you to RickR who kindly sent me a Pole Position II cartridge when I couldn't find my own. This event was a lot of fun for me and the generosity in our forums is over the moon. Way to go guys!

Well, I tried and tried, but I just can't finish that 3rd track.  Congrats to those who could.  I think this game is way too unforgiving.  One crash and it's impossible to finish.

Keep trying until it's no longer fun to try, Creep.  The Fuji track just has that one really sharp left turn.  If you can anticipate that and slow down for it, you should be able to beat that level.

The problem I have with the third level is that you almost always come upon two cars, side by side, with no real easy way to pass them in the curvy sections.  Sometimes I get by them by driving on the side strip or grass.  But inevitably, I waste too much time slowing down for an opening and then can't finish the lap in time.

I was always so focused on my fascination with Atari I overlooked this little gem. I wondered how people would end up with a Gemini. Say someone went to Toys "R" Us or Sears to buy an Atari 2600 and saw this little guy sitting there next to it on the shelf. Was it the controllers? Size? Was it sold at a lower price than traditional 2600 systems? Very interesting little piece of gaming history. I wonder if the Gemini had been planned from the start or if somebody there realized they could sell the ColecoVision Expansion Module #1 as a standalone unit and make more

I've had several of these over the last 10 years.  I've kept one and sold off the rest.  In all cases, the picture quality was superb.  Before the composite mod came for the 2600, this was THE machine to get for the best video quality in my opinion.
