  1. Great episode! I should get my modded Lynx back next week and then I'll try to tackle some of these as you play them. I was going to do the install myself but time has been at a premium lately and the screen is too $$$ to screw up.
  2. Thanks, Rows. I should've linked my want list. Consolewise, I am looking for a VG condition Coleco Gemini - its what I had when I was a kid. http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/895-atarilbc-want-list/?do=findComment&comment=14450 No, but I am looking for a lot of Saturn stuff.
  3. I picked up this light sixer awhile ago "for parts". The previous owner had installed a composite mod but there were problems with the video and controls on certain games. After researching various forums, I found that the particular issue may be related to a failing 6507 or TIA. I had some spares in the garage and thought that I might try to salvage this modded console with some of those parts. I pulled the 6507 and TIA from a rough Sears unit and voila, she's alive. The chips were socketed so it was an easy enough fix. The console itself is in what I would consider very good cosmetic and working condition. The installed mod is from vintagegamingandmore and outputs a really nice picture. That said, I have two LHE S-video modded 7800s - a back up and a daily driver - so I don't really need this unit. I'm willing to consider trades though. Take a look at my want list and lets see if we can work something out. http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/895-atarilbc-want-list/?do=findComment&comment=14450
  4. Great work on another incredibly thorough episode! Who knew Sam Tramiel would be the hero of the story?
  5. I did no better than my last posted score. Great game though!
  6. Going to give it another go before midnight.
  7. Tempest 2000 Atari Jaguar Difficulty: Default High Score: 473,815 October 15, 2015 Notes: So pumped to see a Jaguar game on the scoreboard! This was a score from back in October. Played with a pro-controller. I'll breakout the game again next week after my final and provide a fresh score.
  8. @justin & kamakazi20012 - Interesting choices. You wouldn't often see Cybermorph or Baldies listed but both are, in my view, criminally under appreciated games. Its great to see them represented on your lists! Raiden nearly made my list too but I felt that between Zero 5, Tempest 2000 and MC3D I had enough thumb punishing arcade action represented. If I had a second player with me, it would definitley be there. I've been seeing a lot of love for Hoverstrike and i-War lately. Could it be that these have become the Jaguar's sleeper hits 20 years on?
  9. Dang Radio is killing it! Here is my new score of 48,582. Played on a newly restored 4-switch.
  10. Its cool to see Hoverstrike on two lists as it is actually a pretty decent game. Much like Wolf 3D, it used to make me woozy when I was younger. I think this was due to the bouncing of the hovercraft. Now I quite like it. I generally play it on CD.
  11. Ok, so maybe I was having a bit of a laugh with my first list. My real top five as they stand today are: Tempest 2000 Zero 5 Missile Command 3D Skyhammer Rayman There are obviously other games that I'd include in a "Top 10" or "Top 15" but I find that limiting it to five really makes you think about it.
  12. For a console that is so often maligned, I personally have no problem finding Jaguar games that I still enjoy playing. Even many of the bad games have a "so bad its good quality". What are the Jaguar games that you consistently go back to? In your view, what games still offer something to gamers nearly 20 years after Jaguar's demise? Which games are good enough to make your Jaguar Top 5? Here is my list: Club Drive Checkered Flag Double Dragon 5 Supercross 3D Blackout!
  13. Another great episode. I've always found it strange that the Jaguar has two pinball games in its realitvely limited library. The tables in Ruiner are more fantastical and have cool themes. Pinball Fantasies is more traditional - almost a simulator - but it has more tables. Both are pretty good for video pinball.
  14. I played about 10 times and I consistently start topping out in the mid-high 30s. Here is my best score of the night. I'll try again this weekend if I have another opportunity. Played on a LHE modded 7800 with one of my homemade sticks. Side note: I found it a little strange playing the 2600 version on the 7800 because the 7800 version is great in its own right.
  15. Nicely painted Jag! You can see my "dental jag" in my profile pic. My day-to-day jaguar is standard grey. I would love to see more custom stuff shared here! Even if it isnt Jaguar!.
  16. Another great video! Looking forward to seeing the video capture using McWill's excellent VGA out. This will really set your videos apart as most others either try to film the screen or use emulation. Also, it would be great to get a drink recipe episode. The drinks of the Lynx Lounge!
  17. Excellent read. I still enjoy Tod Frye's Pac-Man. Its the version that I grew up with. Sure it could have been better with a few more tweaks and some different design decisions but it is still fun for what it is. Did anyone else ever use the B&W switch when playing? It gives it a different look.
  18. Sabertooth

    I-War!

I have I-War. I haven't played it in about 4 years but it's pretty cool IMHO. I enjoyed the computer theme and its one of the better Jaguar tank-style games. Also, IIRC there is an "on rails" bonus stage in between levels that makes for an interesting change of pace. I'll have to dig it out and give it a spin soon.
  19. Raiden is a great "couch game". Games like Raiden, Contra, Ikari Warriors, Double Dragon - basically any two-player co-op game involving a red player and a blue player were absolute blasts to play. Some of my favorite gaming memories involved these types of games. Also, way to improvise to create an episode in the middle of a hectic work schedule! Loved it!
  20. Do you have picks of the Saturn. I've been thinking about adding one back. Is it functional and cosmetically clean?
  21. Nice, Rick! Its important to stay organized. I've had to resort to underbed storage for most of my CIB games. I can get 50-60 CIB games in a bin depending on the system.
  22. I got rid of most of my games in 1998-99 as a single lot. When I started getting back into old games I focused on Atari. The collection is really Atari heavy at this point. My favorite systems are the Jaguar, Lynx and 7800. Atari: Video Pinball Touch Me 2600 Six Switch w/ Composite 2600 4-Switch Vader 2600 Jr Sears Video Arcade Heavy Sixer 5200 2-port 7800 (x2) w/ LHE mod XEGS Lynx II (x2) Jaguar (x3) Jaguar Cd (x2) Nintendo: Famicom (JDM) Wii Magnavox: Odyssey 2 Sony: PS3
  23. @Lost Dragon: I tend to agree with your assessment. However, I don't think that its unreasonable to suggest that the Jaguar wasn't pushed as far as it could have been. In my view, this is simply because of its short commercial lifespan. We really got 2.5 years of development. Only a handful of developers did more than one title: ATD, Eclipse, Rebellion, Llamasoft, and id. These devs could learn from the stumbles of their early efforts to get more out of their second games (except in the case of id where Wolf3D was a phone-in). Further, I believe that only Eclipse and ATD had the same teams work on two titles: IS2 and Battlemorph, respectively. Compared this to Saturn, released in '94 in Japan and continued to be supported through '98 in NA and '00 in Japan. As such, devs used learned techniques to really push the software in later games - in many cases beyond what was accomplished on PSX. Veteran teams were able to get 3 or 4 titles out in its lifecycle. Additionally, Atari didn't have the benefit of strong first party in-house development like Sega with Sonic Team, Team Andromeda and AM2. These teams were critical to Sega's quality (stunning) first party output. Compare this to the mostly inexperience (re:CHEAP) contractors that Atari hired for most Jaguar development.
  24. I just finished a 40 minute presentation on "motivating public sector employees". Its both Atari and IPA time.

Let's be honest, Atari and IPA time always sound nice. :)
