  7. Release Date: May 12, 2023 Retail: 21.99 Developer: ALAN-1 Publisher: ALAN-1 Official Site Synopsis: Jousting Heroes is a return to bird flapping multiplayer combat in the skies that will be familiar to many gamers from the 80’s. Inspired by William’s Joust, Atari’s Gauntlet, and Nintendo’s Megaman, Jousting Heroes is, at its heart, 8 player battles of skill. Like all Alan-1 games, there are two game modes–arcade and multiplayer arena. The arcade game is what it sounds like. A fun, addictive, arcade style game with the high score being your objective. High scores are across platforms. Are you the world’s best Jousting Hero? The multiplayer arena allows for up to 8 local players to joust to the death! The game play is unique in that if you are knocked off of your bird, your knight can be reborn by the bird dropping an egg. Once hatched, if the players can reunite their bird with their knight, they are back in the action. But beware, enemy players can eat your bird’s egg to advance to more powerful birds with greater abilities and stronger wings. There are weapons scattered throughout the playfield that will change your strategy to attack once picked up. There are lances, swords, spiked helmets, maces, bows, exploding arrows, and shields that kill. Most weapons have multiple levels of power-ups with the most advanced power-ups being the strongest against enemy foes. Your birds also can eat food to give them powerful attacking abilities like fire breath, dizzy breath, and laser eyes. The more advanced your birds are, the more of these special powers they can access. Those with the most skill will win! But there are many strategies that can be discovered and deployed to best even the most skilled player who doesn’t counter your new approach to Jousting! Good luck warrior!

This marks the one year anniversary round for the Club VCS Recharged Squad Challenge! In our very first round, we played the original Missile Command: Recharged released in 2020. This time, we're celebrating our anniversary with the 2022 update to the title: Missile Command: Recharged (2022)! Missile Command: Recharged is a reimagining of the beloved Atari arcade classic. Survive wave after wave of enemy attacks in this fast-paced, arcade action game. Players must defend their bases by shooting down an endless barrage of missiles hailing from the sky. Launch counter-missiles to protect your base and target powerups to gain an edge at critical moments. The first of Atari's Recharged series, Missile Command: Recharged effectively set the stage for things to come. It took the basic premise of the arcade original, adds power-ups, a future-retro aesthetic and an endless arcade loop. The 2022 update enhances the visuals and adds a mission mode to bring the game in line with the rest of Atari's Recharged series. How long can you defend your cities against the enemy onslaught? Neo-Breakout really captures the spirit of the original game and brings it into the modern era in a way that previous update attempts haven't. It feels like Breakout but also very fresh somehow. It also includes the very fun "Battle" mode. Plus, the Classic Controller makes the VCS the place to play! What did you think of the game? Are there any other takes on the Breakout formula that you enjoy and would recommend? NOTE: Our next Recharged Squad Challenge is Missile Command: Recharged (2022)! Be there!

  20. I have both. I will sometimes play the 1mb version just to hear Skylar less frequently. 🤣
  21. Yeah, this is an infamous example of the Tramiel's trying to save a buck. The developer's at ADT were reportedly very upset about the cuts. Here's a great community interview with questions by our own @TrekMD with Fred Gill, formerly of ADT, who touches on the cut. Here's the excerpt: It was a sad day when we got the call asking if we could optimise the 2Mb game to get it into 1Mb cartridge. The reason was purely cost. Atari needed to cut the price of the Jaguar to boost sales and a 2Mb cartridge didn’t give them enough margin, and indeed they may have even made a loss. It took approx. 2hrs to remove enough animation data and Skylar speech sample variations to get it to fit; whilst an interesting engineering exercise, it was painful ‘mutilating’ something that we’d crafted over such a long time. https://www.retrovideogamer.co.uk/rvg-interviews-fred-gill/
  22. Some tips from Minter himself for playing Akka Arrh:
  23. Just a note that there has been official confirmation via Discord that the VCS version of Akka Arrh will not launch with working leaderboards. Per Atari staff, the issue is that the VCS leaderboard APIs are written in Unity and that Llamasoft writes code in C++. Apparently, it is difficult to translate to C++ without opening up exposure to other things. The backend people are working on a way to “untangle” the data leaderboards need to allow them to function in C++ language. This is also why T4K leaderboards do not currently work on the VCS. Good news is that trackball/mouse support works.
