Retrogamer81081 reacted to Ballblaɀer in Ballblaɀer's collection: 2600, 5200, Vectrex, and...
...I figure I'll start things off with a bang.  Behold!

I love, love, love my 2800.  Everything about it!  Don't get me wrong, I love a woodgrain sixer like anyone else, but there's just something about this thing that grabs me by the shoulders and demands my attention:

It's got a great overall look, but there's also the little things, like the Atari plates on the controllers:

Got a 4-player game?  Got you covered:

Sure, I can't play Space Shuttle on it very easily:

And I do wonder why my controllers weren't manufactured at the same time the console was made:

I mean, is it a Sears Video Arcade II with different plates?  Well, yeah.  But regardless -- this is beautiful technology to me, and it's easy for me to see why they modeled the 7800 on this design.

    More to come!

I totally agree with delorean on gamester, a so off for sure. I unfollowed him over this crap. Hope others do the same, but I'm not calling others to do it. It would take an apology on YouTube to make me change my mind. I doubt that he would.

My new interest is how MK is going to react to the Coleco deadline. My guess is he will claim that it was damaged in shipping after the toyshow, and will end up not providing anything to them.

    Yep here they come...

Gamester81 is a male bimbo. He's a likable guy but he doesn't seem very intelligent to me. He kinda just stands there with his box of stuff and goes "yup, that's cool." He’s a total bimbo. He went to the biggest party school ever, seriously google it, it churns out mediocre porn workers like a sausage factory and his YouTube show is basically 1st grade show and tell.

Classic gaming has too many clueless male bimbos (not you guys!) in power roles. ALL of these bad situations in classic gaming are because of this!!! They prance around YouTube with their hats on backwards and end up in charge of things that they're totally unqualified to be doing. Passion project or not. When they try to milk their popularity for money, they get in over their heads and people get burned. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Whenever there's a new "retro" console/module/ pie in the sky something that doesn't live up to the hype, you can always bet there’s a stumblebum male bimbo there with his hand out asking for your money and not getting the job done. These guys are absolutely clueless.

The bimbo part comes in when they think they can lie to us, manipulate us, deceive us and play us for fools like we can't see EXACTLY what they've done. They rely on the "good ‘ol boy" network of ditzy male bimbos to support them and to attack people as a hater or a mob if you have the balls to ask them to just clear this up. This is absolutely outrageous and everyone attached to this from Gamester81 to Mike Kennedy had better get real transparent real fast before they're hit with serious lawsuits from every side. Coleco holdings already has reason to believe they're in breach of contract. People go to jail for stuff like this!

It's not just Mike Kennedy pushing this circus show, it's Gamester81 and every other ditzy male bimbo who let this get as far as it did. These guys are totally incompetent and nobody seems to be talking about mass support of mass incompetence as a problem. These guys F--ed their way into this mess and they'll try to F-- their way out.

Post pics of your random items that inexplicably have woodgrain for no good reason.  GO!

I'll start with this....an electric pencil sharpener...with woodgrain.  A lovely dark, rich woodgrain.  And bonus -- the fake wooodgrain laminate table.  I inherited that from my parents, and it's probably 45 years old.  My family thinks that table could survive a nuclear blast.

Retrogamer81081 reacted to Atari 5200 Guy in Atari 5200 Console Overview
As my brother in law says about the Dallas Cowboys...there's going to be haters.  And it looks like the 5200 is in that same boat.  For what it is, though, I will still defend this console in every way...controller issues and all.  It's not as bad as some say it is.  I've been playing one since 1982 so that ought to account for something.  Yes, the controllers can break easily.  What game system doesn't have controller issues, though?  Granted not on the same scale as the 5200 but they still have issues.  The system has aged so there are going to be issues and if you are late to the game then be prepared to go through issues others have already faced before.

You also can't expect to treat the 5200 like a 2600.  It's not going to work and will cause more frustration than anything.  Each game has to be learned individually.  I'm not talking about how to play the game by its rules, but by the 5200's rules.  Those analog controls if not given the time to learn them throws an unexpected curve ball.  And, as I have said numerous times before, the 5200 has to be used regularly or it will fail again.  It was not a system meant to be sitting on a shelf month after month, year after year, without using it.

Learn the system first, then learn the controllers, and then learn the games and you will find that the 5200 is actually a rather enjoyable system.  If you have non-working controllers get them rebuilt.  Trust me on that...it makes a difference.

Retrogamer81081 reacted to Chris++ in Jaguar Memories
In 1997 or '98, I was visiting family in Buffalo. I saw a Jaguar on sale for a very low price -- $40, maybe -- at Kay-Bee Toys. The only reason I'd walked to the mall (a place in which I won't even set foot these days) was to look at records. One of their stores still had 33s. Well, also, I was antsy and wanted a walk!

I saw the Kay-Bee and stopped in to see if they were selling any cheap 2600 games, as they had a few years prior. I saw the Jaguar and realized that I didn't know a thing about it. The most recent platforms I owned were an Atari 2600, a Commodore 64 and a C128. I was still gratefully fixated on those old pals, I programmed quite a bit, and I even wrote essays / articles about "old" games. I did the latter for my own amusement. I thought that nobody else on Earth would understand why I could find pleasure in playing '70s and '80s games, much less writing about them. I didn't know that any classic-game newsletters existed, and I hadn't been online yet, at least beyond CompuServe.

I didn't think "modern" games would be much fun. These were the days of Myst and mere interactive movies (in essence), sold on that latest over-hyped fad, the multimedia CD-ROM. But seeing the Atari logo, and feeling glad that there still was an Atari, I was drawn to the table full of Jaguars and cartridges near the entrance. "Wow, that's cheap," I said to myself. "But I wouldn't be able to fit it into my suitcase."

Then I saw the Tempest 2000 box.

Like anyone else in his right mind who had played the arcade game in the early '80s, I had wanted a home version of Tempest for years. I examined the back of the box and saw that the graphics had grown advanced enough to make the potential vector-to-raster problems practically moot. I then noticed that the cartridge included a conversion of the original Tempest, which was being called Classic Tempest.

At that point, I had to force myself to put down the cartridge box and walk away very quickly. (I'm pretty good about not spending cash unnecessarily.) However, as you can imagine, I couldn't stop thinking about it afterward.

I got back to my grandmother's place, went down to the bedroom-like basement where I was staying, and tried to read. But of course, I kept thinking, I would be able to play Tempest at home...I would never run out of quarters...it's a very inexpensive console...the games are only ten bucks apiece...isn't it high time I treated myself to my first new system since the C128? Tempest at home...Tempest at home...

Then I glanced over at my suitcase. I've always liked to bring just one, so it's usually huge. This one certainly was.

Hmm...the console box could fit easily!

There was no use in fighting it anymore. I walked back to the mall and bought the Jaguar, along with Tempest 2000 and Iron Soldier. Back in the basement, I opened everything up, read the manuals and basically drooled for three or four days. When I got back to Albuquerque, hooked up the console and started playing, I realized that I had made the right decision. I had no regrets about shelling out most of the spending cash I'd brought on vacation. Playing Jaguar games for the first time was a mind-blowing experience.

Consider: I had never played anything more modern than Super Mario Bros. 3 on my bass player's NES. I had never even seen a first-person shoot-'em-up being played. And all in one day, I played Tempest 2000, Iron Soldier and the awesome, highly underrated Cybermorph. (You can mute Skylar's voice, people.)

Around that time, I started hanging out again with a buddy from high school named Adam. I hadn't seen him in ten years. When we ran into each other, I learned that he, too, was into old games. It surprised me that anybody was. Over the next few months, in between alerting me to the presence of a few classic-game newsletters (including his own, to which I would eventually contribute quite a lot) and building me an Amiga 2500, he lent me the Jaguar version of Doom.

I had never played the game before. The Jag version was my first. I plugged in the cartridge, turned on the console, started the game and...I've never recovered.

Every modern game that I've bought since then (I've gotten as recent as the PS2! Movin' on up!) has directly resulted from my obsession with Doom, which led to a love for solo first-person exploration / killing-everything games. These days, I run the source port ZDoom on my PC, choosing from hundreds of maps made by fellow players, and designing some of my own. But every few months, I still play Cybermorph and Iron Soldier all the way through. The buildings in the latter look just as astonishingly cool when they fall to flaming pieces as they did back in the late '90s, when I had reached the grizzly old age of 25 and Atari had captivated me all over again. I will love the Jaguar forever.

What Is The Scoreboard And How Does It Work?
The Scoreboard is a Database of high scores achieved by Members in our community. Scores only get added to the Scoreboard when someone beats the previous score. Think of the Scoreboard like a High Score screen at the end of an arcade game. You want to leave your mark! Some arcades have big chalkboards when you first walk in, with handwritten high scores for each game in the arcade. Pretty soon word gets around and everybody knows your initials! The Scoreboard is a place in the forums to come to share your personal high scores. Just like the screen where you enter your initials, posts are in a minimalist bare-bones format. We do it that way so it's easy to find the scores you're looking for. And because a new score is only added if it's the new high score for the page, you know the further you scroll down the higher the scores will be.

Why Is It Important To Post In This Format?
We need your help to keep the Scoreboard easy to read and quickly look up scores! For the same reason a High Score screen on an arcade game keeps things clean and simple, we have to keep our Scoreboard in a simple, organized format too. High Scores submitted without being property formatted are subject to editing or removal.

Search For Your Game On The Scoreboard Before You Post
Avoid creating duplicate threads for the same game title and system. Before posting, search to see if a thread has already been started for this game title. Games are listed alphabetically and by system to make them easy to find. You can also use the search bar at the top right of the page search the forum for the system you're posting your score for to see if a thread has already been started for this game. If it has, you should post your new high score in the existing thread. If not, you'll be the first to post a new High Score!

Only Post If You Have The New High Score For The Thread
Post your score only if it's the highest score so far on the page! Think of the Scoreboard like a High Score screen at the end of an arcade game. It's easy to follow. We do it that way so it's easy to scroll down and easily find scores. You know the further you scroll down the page, the higher the scores will be. Please only post if you have achieved a new high score for the thread.

Why Do My Scoreboard Posts Not Appear Right Away?
Did you post your score in the Scoreboard, but it didn't immediately appear? That's okay! We've received your score and will review it first before it goes live. Posts to the Scoreboard require approval by a Moderator prior to appearing in the Forums. This is done as a moderation measure to fix improper formatting, filter out superfluous posts and maintain the integrity of the Scoreboard.

    The Credibility Of Your Score
The scoreboard is for “Nerd Cred” only. Games are meant to be fun and we don’t have officials on hand to verify scores. The credibility of your score is going to be upon you to make it believable. Posting a YouTube video of your game goes a long way to substantiating credibility. A photo of your score is all that's required, but a video of your performance is even better! Especially if you're the type of gamer to have ridiculous skills and can roll the score over. Using your cell phone to take a photo or video of your score is a good way to go.
Photos can be uploaded and attached to your post to substantiate your score! A YouTube link can be included in your post to show a video of your performance. To include a YouTube video in your post, copy your video's YouTube link and paste into your post where you want the video to appear. Your video will appear in your post where you pasted the link.

Screen captures are not allowed as they are easily Photoshopped
