  1. I'm calling out all SMS owners on Atari I/O to do me a slight favor. I'm conducting a small investigation to try to determine if model numbers make a difference on what games are built-in. I was given the label information to the system I am expecting and am trying to determine what it has. I found a website that has some information but also states that sometimes the model number doesn't always reflect what games were built-in properly. So if SMS owners would be so kind to see what their SMS model number is along with what games are built-in (none, Hang-On, ad either Safari Hunt or Astro Warrior) and post it here I would greatly appreciate it. Here are the model numbers summed up: ORIGINAL POWER BASE MODEL Model 3000....no built in game (has snail game). Made in Hong Kong. Thanks Greenween! Model 3010....no built-in game (has snail game). Made in Japan, China, Taiwan Model 3010-A..Hang-On/Safari Hunt. Made in China. Model 3010-B..Hang-On/Astro Warrior (some B models may have just Hang-On). Made in China. Model/FCC labels may be upside down. Model 3010-C..Missile Defense 3D MASTER SYSTEM II MODELS MK-3006. Made in Japan. Alex Kidd in Miracle World built-in. 3006-22. Made in Japan. Alex Kidd in Miracle World built-in. Canadian model. What I'm trying to do is determine if any models without letters have any of the other games built-in. I was told that the label on the SMS shows just 3010 so I am hoping for the snail game. Thanks in advance!
  2. I remember having three channels that were sometimes clear but most of the time had static which I dealt with. Grandma had cable, the first RCA CED player, and eventually got a VCR. Man the quality of those old machines compared to what I had at home kept me mesmerized. Wife and I just watch Netflix's animated White Fang which I enjoyed. The artwork done in the movie was something I never seen before. The characters had this almost paint-by-number like styling. Pretty cool. Netflix has also been good for watching shows we would not normally get in the States. We've found a few BBC shows we have enjoyed. Land Girls and Call the Midwives were good.
  3. Wife and I watched Coco on Netflix and loved the movie. All of those actors/actresses you mentioned are talented as well. Albert Finny really got into his parts. It was hard to actually see him instead of his characters in Murder on the Orient Express and also in Annie. Jeff Bridges is one of my favorite actors but not for TRON alone but also for Tucker. Another favorite is Spencer Tracey because he portrayed Thomas Edison so well, a movie I have not been able to locate. I really wasn't trying to play the BITD game. But I guess I did, unknowingly. I guess a part of me wishes those people were still around to hear from every now and then. Time always changes things which is good but sometimes changes come too fast for me. Most of it boils down to me being more comfortable with the way things were because it worked and seemed easier. Maybe I'm blindfolded. I would easily pick old analog TV over digital any day when it comes to using an antenna. Where we are digital channel by antenna are practically nonexistent. We get five on good days. I could deal with static more than I can blocky videos that cut out. Just an example.
  4. I'm sitting here watching Glenn Miller Story and remember when I would sit with my grandmother and watch movies she grew up with. In doing so I developed a sense of appreciation for what all those involved had done and accomplished. It's hard to replace the likes of James Stewart, June Allyson (who had a unique voice), and Henry Morgan because they were some of the best for their time. I also have High Society with Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong which remains one of my favorite classics. In a lot of ways I wish that they were still around and movies like those mentioned were still being made. Fred's unique dancing style has really never been duplicated or impersonated. It's been said that his style was always hard for other actors performing with him to keep up with. They paved the way for actors I remember during the 1980's. Robin Williams, Eddie Murphy, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, John Candy, all of them performed beyond expectations. As much as I hate to say it, and while there are some good movies today, I feel the movie industry is really missing the talent that once entertained us. My Grandmother and I were really blessed one day as a vacation to Branson, Missouri, only a 30 minute drive from where I once lived, landed us a chance to meet a popular icon. Next to the hotel we were staying in was a small outlet with a Red Skelton Museum. We paid it a visit only to discover also visiting the store Red himself. We didn't ask for an autograph but we did tell him how much we still watched his shows on TV and VHS. He seemed shocked that a teenager knew who he was. He invited us to lunch with him. Best hour of my life. It amazed me that how he was in real life was not much different than how he was when performing. He passed shortly after that. I guess I'm just rambling on about memories I have. I think the movie industry could learn a thing or two from what these previous professionals did. Just don't screw it up. They already screwed up Ghostbusters and Footloose.
  5. I believe this challenge is already over but what the heck.
  6. Well...looks like I'm first. I have to admit that I prefer the 2600 version over the arcade. I never was fond of the trakball controls of the arcade. I liked it on Missile Command and Centipede/Millipede but not on Crystal Castles. Played on real hardware of course.
  7. Now that the 7800 has been mentioned, there are a lot of third-party NES games I'd like to see be made for the 7800. Gradius, Life Force, Guardian Legend...I could go on and on.
  8. One based on the 1990's Video Power game show would be cool.
  9. I don't know. All I do know is that my friend found a Master System while going through stuff and that it needs work. I'm hoping it is an original version because I would like to pick up a few of the credit card style games as those were good games. I guess I could ask them. Then again I like the surprise effect so I may wait lol. It still shocks me because it was unexpected. When I read that message my jaw dropped literally. I may invest in the sound upgrade for it, not sure yet. And as much as I've heard some YouTubers mention in their SMS review videos about controllers not being too great when I thought they were good controllers. I agree, it is part of SEGA's history and first console entry in America. I remember enjoying it more than the NES at the time mostly because of OutRun and Space Harrier which seemed to be the only way to play those games at home in my area. Hopefully it will be here next week. I will post something as soon as it arrives. Now I'll have to find Sega posters to decorate my game room with. I did find a keychain on eBay.
  10. My system in the past actually came with Great Football. To my surprise I found it fun. The one accessory I never got to experience is the 3D glasses, and I accidentally picked up 3D Space Harrier not paying attention to the box saying that the glasses were required. So I'm curious because I've heard that the actually work. Then again finding anything for a SMS in my area back in the day was not easy. Only one place got anything related and I believe they only got those because of the need to push inventory. Everything SMS in that store was already sporting clearance price tags on top of other name store tags. I remember looking at the poster of games and hoping to find R-Type but never did. And most of the online stores think that these old games are made with gold making them difficult to obtain. I've seen a few titles with $300 price tags which I find stupid. No game should cost more than the system no matter how rare it is. Then I collect to play and no to let them sit on a shelf to collect dust.
  11. Is that bass an Ibanez? If so I have a friend with a 5-string that looks just like that.
  12. I will. Its not here yet. One of the anxieties of being a gamer. I'm excited and trying to be patient but at the same time it couldn't get here fast enough if that makes sense. If you find one out in the wild, Rick, you should nab it. Anyone that loves Atari for arcade game play will enjoy the SMS. I remember being a teenager when I was fortunate enough to have an NES, SMS, and 7800 at the same time. The SMS and 7800 got more play time. Any game recommendations?
  13. I'd be happy with standard composite outs as long as the system works. Unfortunately, the Genesis I won off a Goodwill auction was suppose to come with an adapter but it wasn't included and many contact attempts ended with no return contacts and no adapter. In that case I can use my 5200's power supply which I have used with a cable I made to reverse polarity on my Genesis. So it looks like I will be ready to go once it gets here. Thanks CrossBow!
  14. It looks like I might be adopting a Master System soon. But I was told it has no controllers, no hook-up, no AC adapter, and no games. I am told it will need work so I am going to try to do a video on it. Games I'm not worried about because every SMS had some sort of game built in, even those without Hang-On and Safari Hunt have the snail game. Controller not an issue...I have access to a Genesis controller but I do plan on trying to get original controllers. RF is not an issue for me, I have a Sega RF switchbox. But, the AC Adapter might be an issue. Are there any I/O members who have a Master System powered by a different power supply than what the machine came with so I can see if I have one similar or track it down? While I'm on the subject game suggestions? OutRun and After Burner are a must but I would love to hear other's suggestions.
  15. I kinda missed this. I would be curious to see the 7800 get a port of Pac-Mania. I have reviewed the 7800 from a hardware point of view for development purposes and highly believe that it could easily perform that game. I have never seen the PAC Man Collection as the only homebrew I currently have is Tempest on the 5200. But I agree with others, Ms. Pac Man should have been a pack-in. If Atari really wanted to go all out they could have made Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man on a single cart as a pack-in title with buying a 7800 being the only way to obtain those games or one of them.
  16. This game has one of those frustrating moments that will make you want to throw something. I beat the main story of the game and without giving away too much I beat the main boss once. Was the game over? Nope. Round 2. Beat him again. Game over? Nope. At this point I'm like squeezing the controller in my hands going, "Why won't he just die!?!". Beat him a third time. It then becomes clear...everything that the game shows you through each character you use, on how to use them to navigate the levels and to solve puzzles, are just training grounds for the boss fight because you will use every single one of them during three or four final acts. Having multiple characters helps because they will automatically attack smaller enemies leaving you more free to solve puzzles for boss attacks. For being a bad guy I found using Lord Voldemort to be a valuable asset. So if others have this game and are missing the Harry Potter Team Pack I recommend it. The only other pack I would want is the Midway Arcade pack. Retro gamers will love the short arcade levels in the main story. The developers did an awesome job on 3D rendering Defender, Super Sprint, and Gauntlet. I was in awe when I seen those. Out of all of the games where additional character purchases are required to access areas of the main game, Lego Dimensions actually goes the extra mile with awesome game play across multiple franchises that no other game has ever done. It's a real shame it didn't gain popularity to keep it going longer because I would have liked to have seen what else that would have came up with. But, then again, being Lego sets, the price point is understandably the real reason for its lack of success. I still give it a high recommendation. It is really fun.
  17. That's what the arrow is for, RickR. They use the packages for target practice. As for the GC logo, I never noticed. I just seen the cube shape. Chalk one up for the lame team lol.
  18. Have you guys read this? https://www.gamebyte.com/gamecubes-logo-has-a-secret-message-and-people-are-only-just-noticing/amp/ And as many times as I've seen that logo, and actually like it, I never noticed it.
  19. TrekMD reminded me of another Lionel Richie song. Be sure to watch the video and see if you find some cameo appearances. And some Alan Parson's...
  20. You're welcome! And from RickR I got these... Thanks, RickR! Galaxian on the 2600 is not bad...I just don't get why they put that orange border in the game. ??? I'm going to enjoy them all!
  21. I like this idea better than what Atari is up to which we don't have a clue yet. At least Tommy was upfront and honest when he said he can't tell you because PR guys would get mad. But a new Intellivision released with whatever Intellivision games they can get the rights to plus new games available for $2 to $6 and no game scoring less than 7? Yea...I think I know who I will be placing my bets on between Atari and Intellivision. Sorry, but Atari doesn't seem to know what they are going to do or have not said anything while Intellivision has said plenty. Its just a shame its at least two years off but already said to be cheaper than Atari VCS. I'm excited!
  22. Loved Twilight Zone. Great song. How 'bout a little Trick?
  23. I was on the hunt today for any SNES controllers but no luck. However, my hunt was not a total loss as I found these: I'm in the middle of cleaning the cases up which is why Midway Arcade Treasures looks like it does. The other game was a pack-in with XBOX consoles containing Project Gotham Racing 2 (a relative of Dreamcast's Metropolis Street Racing) and an Arcade disc. What doesn't make much sense to me is the Arcade disc. I thought those had full games on them. This one only has demos. I can't find a single full game on it. You would think with it being a pack-in that there would be at least one full game on it but so far I haven't found any. It does have demos for some PopCap games including Bejeweled, Zuma, Astro Pop, and a few others plus some games that might have been exclusives to the XBOX LIVE ARCADE. Not sure on that so don't quote me.
  24. Thanks for the suggestions, Starbuck. Have you ever run across these? https://www.lukiegames.com/SNES-Super-Nintendo-Famicom-Controller-New
