Which Nintendo arcade port was the best on the Atari 7800?

 

By the way, my favorite way to enjoy playing Nintendo games on the Atari 7800 is using a Sega Genesis controller! 😁

Well, I've never played any of them, but since they seem to be more or less identical to their NES counterparts I'll go with Mario Brothers. It seems a bit faster on the 7800 from videos I've seen, but mostly the same. I'm a huge Mario Bros. fan.

Donkey Kong JR and Mario Bros. While the audio is... well it is the TIA afterall, most if not all of the game play elements from the arcade games are intact and seem to match closely.

I like Donkey Kong best.  It's fast and looks good.  That's one I'll usually play when the 7800 gets used.

I have to go with Mario Bros.! It's excellent on the Atari 7800. I enjoy playing it more than the NES version. I could be biased because I grew up with this on the 7800, my dad and I used to have so much fun co-opping this game.

Are you using the Edladdin Seagull 78 Adapter to play?

Depends on the game. Some 7800 games that only require one button play fine using button B on a Genesis controller without the Seagull 78. It's been a while, but I think all three of these games only use one button to jump, so might work with just the controller.

Good point, I'll give that a try. Is there a revision of the Genesis pad that you prefer?

I prefer the comfort of the standard 6 button version.

Of the three original releases, Mario Bros I think is the best one.  DK Jr follows and then DK.

If I include homebrews/hacks, Donkey Kong XM/PK takes the cake and it even beats the NES version.
