Well, to nitpick, Superman used some code from Adventure and was released before Adventure was. :)

Thanks for the video Phil, wonderful job as always. Adventure and The Legend of Zelda are my top 2 video games of all time; I started playing Zelda because of Adventure.

"Suicide Adventure." In that version, the mazes are harder, and the dragons are AGRESSIVE! They appear constantly onscreen from the very start, and chow you down in seconds. I've never finished that version, because it's hard. I don't know if it was released as a cartridge though.

There's also "Haunted Adventure," also known as "Return to Haunted House." It's basically Adventure with a Haunted House theme to it. The dragons are replaced with ghosts, the bat with the bat from Haunted House, and the sword with the scepter. Also, the chalice is replaced with a skull. You can find this game on the Flashback 4.

Edit: Oh and the Flashback 4 also includes a game called Adventure II, which is unrelated to the 5200 game of the same name.

Misadventure Revised is probably my favorite hack, as it expands the Kingdom more than any other that I've played. (Never mind that the guy misspelled the title as Missadventure. It's the game that counts, right?)

Of course, that's if you don't want to get DOSBox and Indenture, and play Game 5, with its hundreds of rooms. Awesome, I tell ya!

Don't forget Quest for the Golden Chalice on the Colecovision. It's a bit slow but the music is wonderful.

Feel free to link the hell out of me,  I'm going to try to find as many carts of these as I can, but whatever isn't on cart can go on my harmony!

I love Adventure, and it's must play for me every time I fire up my 7800, my Flashback, or Atari's Greatest Hits on my DS. Can't get enough of this game!

My daughter always calls the hero "Mr Dot," and says that he's Link's grandfather. I kind of suggested the premise of the game being similar to Zelda to get her to try the game out, and now she's as hooked as I am on it :-)

Thanks to all who posted links to hacks and variations as well; I'll definitely check those out!

You could bust the house in Blackjack, although that doesn't have the same "beat/complete" connotation that I think you're getting at.  Superman (December 1978) came before Adventure, so I think that'd be the first one.

Superman was released in late 1979 and Adventure in early 1980.

Isn't it a shame, that every character of Adventure has a name, except the hero?

Let us call him Quadrator! Quadrator the dragonslayer!!! May he live long! Link is tomorrow, today is Quadrator!!! :adventure:

Or Quadrator the Gladiator!!! :spot:

I think people on this thread will be interested in this.  Atari Adventure was ported to C++ and I've modified it (blasphemy, I know) to be an internet-based, multiplayer game.  You can see the concept in this promo video.

Screen%20Shot%202017-02-04%20at%202.12.5

If anyone is interested, I desperately need some beta testers.

Oh, I guess I should have said that.  There's a small info site at http://h2hadventure.ddns.net that, among other things, tells you how to sign up.  For those not interested in beta-testing I hope to have this ready for the public by the Fall.

Using some of the points I brought up earlier, I made a quick video comparing Adventure and The Legend of Zelda:
