I totally relate to this. With the exception of the VCS I can't remember the last time I played a "modern" game. Literally a few years I think. Turbo Duo and Jaguar are about as modern as I get.

Games on the Atari VCS fill this niche for me.  I've got the new version of "Haunted House" to dig into and also "Doodle Taxi".
The main issue is time and it is totally my choices that are the cause.  Gaming just isn't a top priority.  Work, home chores, cooking, and family time are all in front of gaming.

You picked the ONE title I have yet to even start, I avoided it for years with all the negative talk but picked it up recently after hearing how much it has improved, watching some gameplay videos etc. Not sure when I will get to it. I just started THE INVINCIBLE, I think I like it, it won't be for everyone, it's from a book I've not read but the art style and atmosphere are cool, it's a pretty laid-back game compared to the others, not really open world as it seems to be a lot of walking and scripted events but I don't mind.

Your list includes a couple titles that have been on my radar for years, but still haven’t yet dug into!
How are you liking No Man’s Sky? It captured me HARD when I tried it (two years ago now, so didn’t include Echoes at the time). Had me for three straight months, ha. The seamless interplanetary travel is incredible!
My recently dabbled “modern” games are Starfield and Mario Wonder. I’m a statistic, I know, ha.  About 1/3rd through the new Haunted House game, and regularly perform failing runs with Noita. I watch the lady play Lies of P - that’s an intriguing game to see, but the gameplay is above my ability levels, ha!

Obviously, I am a huge retro games player whether for nostalgia or just reliving classics or discovering new ones for the first time I may of missed out on BUT....
When my mind is not dwelling on a million other things or I am not doing something else and I can take a moment to escape THESE are some of the more modern games I've dipped my toes into over the past little while, not listed of course emulation, game DEMOS and Indie games etc. 🤷‍♂️🎮 Sure by now some younger people might certainly consider even some of these "CLASSICS" so I guess we are talking games long after the 8-16-32 bit era 😝

What about you all? Have you enjoyed any "modern" titles lately? 🤔

One of our families favorite games. I’ll pop my copy in and try it with Paddles as soon as my console arrives.
Excellent news for those of us with a DF.

Yeah I was surprised when he title music was coming out of different channels in the game room and when the game played and the sounds were following the fireballs etc. First actual true stereo 2600 game I guess? Although I hear that Skeleton+ has the same actual stereo in the game.
Just remember that with the DF only the official released games are working and Rampage is still a NO GO regardless. None of the graphic hacks of original games would load. So the checksums are just too different for the emulator to know what to do it seems. Hopefully Atari updates some of that so that some 7800 homebrews will work since. But even my physical carts of Sirius and Plutos would NOT load that I got from CPUWIZ years ago. Not sure if those games were never added to the Prosystem look update tables or what?

Yeah, I’m just happy to play the officially released games. Too bad about Sirius & Plutos, but I can play my carts on original hardware. Hopefully we’ll see an update in the not so distant future that can help with some homebrews. I’ll test all of mine when I receive my unit and post my findings if they differ for games that haven’t been mentioned.

Interesting, I did attend CGE2k2 but I don't remember buying it that far back as that was my first CGE I attended. I might have been for sale later. I know I picked mine up from the AtariAge booth at a CGE and the guy that did the enhanced stuff was there as well.
You know, it likely was back that far because my copy of Berzerk VE is also one of the few homebrews I have where the end label started to peel up nearly as soon as I got home with it since AA was still working on finding the best ways to do that stuff. The end label is hand cut as well on it.
    Geeze...20 years ago?!
Anyone get the new Bezerk Enhanced? I did NOT, but I'm hearing others state it only has like 2 voice phrases and they are hard to make out?

Just an FYI in relation to the info you provided regarding flashcards, if you use Dev Mode to load a single game onto the HArmony it will be recognized and loaded of course because at that point the Harmony is simply acting like a single game cartridge.

Justin got a reaction from Boris in Songbird, Jaguar logo re-trademarked?
The interesting thing is, even with the new Atari protecting their trademarks, that doesn't necessarily mean Songbird has to create a new logo for their Jaguar and Lynx cartridges. It can still have the box art on the cartridge label and simply say "Compatible with Atari Jaguar interactive multimedia video game systems" etc.

I'm not quite there yet. A number of folks have expressed interest in a print copy. I decided to do a single issue print to check quality, cost and determine what revisions need to be made to do a small run.
A number of changes need to be made, including the addition of two content pages (magazines are divisible by 4), the orientation of page numbers on even pages, and some art and text adjustments. Also, reading a print copy I found a handful of small errors that have since been corrected.
Overall, I was pretty happy. It looks and feels like a store bought magazine. I'm ordering one more test print with the revisions. If it looks good, I will do a small run for ClubVCS members first. If I have left overs, I'll open it up. I plan to offer these at my cost plus shipping. If I move forward, I'll make the announcement here first.

This Fanzine is so worthy, that to get the full nostalgic effect, I simply had to print it up!

When I had an actual ColecoVision, I like using the Super Action Controller for playing Mouse Trap since it was easier to open doors with it's keypad than with the standard controller.  Using the firing triggers you had to squeeze hard was a pain though, so I prefer using an Atari joystick with a Coleco controller in the 2nd port for the manual keypad entry.
On MAME I not only set my Xbox gamepad to emulate the Super Action Controller but also add the spinner axis to my left thumbstick to simulate the Roller Controller & Steering Wheel and also use the right trigger for acceleration (fire button) plus right thumbstick for shifting (right joystick).

I don't mind using the original CV controller. I think it works well but i have made my own CV gamepad with both fire buttons & * 1 to start & reset games without a keypad but for the games that do need extra buttons like Pac Man collection Ms Pac-Man needs # for Credits i just use my Champ CV Keypad.

This is my go-to.  And if a game uses only one button, I'll use an Atari joystick.
