  1. During my 15 day hospital stay, I ordered a bunch of games. Here's a batch from Repentless Video Games. I just love the quality of the label and workmanship from RVG. They're on par with AtariAge cartridges and official Atari cartridges from back in the day (in my opinion). With the addition of Bloody Human Freeway and Venetian Blinds, I think I have cartridges of all the Activision unreleased roms--maybe there are more but I dunno. Just based on the cartridge label alone, I had to have Rescue the Princess. I assume this is a hack of Princess Rescue which I bought several years ago. I'm always game for hacks involving Space Invaders or Pac-Man.
  2. I’m hoping to attend. It’s just a matter of my recovery from back surgery.
  3. My biggest single take away from this video? Dragon’s Havoc is not a match-three game 😂 That’s the reason I had stopped paying attention to DH when it was announced. I mean, I love match-three games, but I was expecting something else—something more—based on the cool name of the game. Seeing the game play, I will definitely pick up Dragon’s Havoc.
  4. Three more days left to go! I’m scheduled to be discharged this Wednesday. My rehab will continue into the coming weeks, and I will be traveling from home. Come tomorrow, I will have been in the hospital for two weeks. While I love the constant care and ease of rehab logistics, I’m looking forward to returning home and enjoying the comforts of home.

And I bought a bunch of stuff while being hospitalized, and it’ll be like early Christmas when I get home 😂 My wife didn’t sound too thrilled with the number of boxes stacked in my office at home.

That great attitude of yours will get you healed up before you know it.  Take it easy lifting those boxes!  Ask your wife to open them for you 😉

  5. Wow looks gorgeous 🤩
  6. Last year, I officially considered myself a Trekkie. I’ve seen all the movies. As far as the TV series are concerned, I’ve watched all of TOS and watched TNG here and there. As for the rest, I haven’t watched any. For whatever reason, I have been drawn to SNW. I watched the first season and loved it. I loved the style, the story lines, and Captain Pike’s hair (I tried to pull it off but couldn’t quite get it to look the way I wanted). I finished S2E2 Ad Astra per Aspera the other day, and it left me in tears. The acting was beautiful (especially Una’s lawyer friend) and the storyline was inspirational. The episode embodied everything I love and admire about the Star Trek universe. This episode may very well be my number 1 or 2 favorite ST episode. And then, earlier today, I saw this in my FB feed (about a Star Trek group). I’m not a poster guy, but I need to get this poster.
  7. This reminds me of the time a month ago when I visited a local gamer. He invited me in to his house and showed me his collection. Most of his collection was in a large room (converted garage) that made you feel like you walked into a small retro gaming store. From insider swag (he worked in the Microsoft Xbox unit for many years) to imports to you name it, he probably has it. Then he took me to one of his bedrooms and opened a cabinet. He had stacks of Nintendo 64, probably at least a dozen. I’m all for having back-up consoles but a dozen seemed like overkill and bordering on hoarding 😂 As for me and duplicate consoles… nothing crazy (my wife may disagree) Backup PS3 in the box Two heavy sixers in addition to my daily driver six switch Extra PS2 slim (I have three PS2 setups) R2D2 Xbox 360 for display purpose OG Halo Xbox for display purpose Two Nintendo refurbished 2DS still in the box Extra PSP and Vita Atari 800 in the box Extra Atari 800XL As far as dreams are concerned, I don’t recall having one. The closest experience was when I attended my first PRGE back in 2017. I remember my feelings when I laid my eyes on the AtariAge booth. Seeing all the Atari 800 and other Atari 8-bit computers running almost brought me to tears. I thought I was seeing a vision or maybe I died and went to heaven. It had been at least 30 years since I had them running in my house and never had a clue that people were still using them.
  8. You are just rolling @Silver Back! I don’t know how you’re doing it but thanks for taking us on the ride. Your videos have been both fun and informative.
  9. Asteroids Atari 7800 Difficulty: Advanced High Score: 116,770 July 15, 2023
  10. Thank you @Justin and I applaud @Sabertooth‘s commitment to his iconic score of 7800. You didn’t budge one bit. I raise a toast to you 🍻 in your honor, sir.
  11. Life is good! I’m still in the hospital for rehab, but I’m receiving care and support from friends, church, and family. I have a great job and awesome co-workers and managers. Today is an off day, so no therapy sessions (my quads were beat up bad yesterday from the intensive sessions).

I’m just feeling happy and giddy chilling, watching videos, surfing the forums… what more could I ask for? 🙂

My wife has been visiting daily, and yesterday, she chided(?) me. Here’s a photo of me taken two days before I had my ER visit that led to surgery. I was still under lots of pain. I had to ask my son to drive me around town that day. We went to church to attend the youth group fundraiser for lunch and then headed to a retro computing society meeting in hopes of meeting Joe Decuir and then followed that up with a visit to this nice man to get the 5200 controllers for free.

How can you smile so big under all that pain is basically what she asked me 😂 She answered her own question saying to the effect that when you love something that much, it can’t be suppressed. Yeah, I’ve been fascinated with video games ever since I first laid my eyes on it as a kid back in the early 80s.

I hope everyone is doing as well as I am minus the hospital stuff.

Joie de vivre is what you've got.  It's infectious.  I hope you never lose it!

I'm glad you are on the mend and following doctor's orders.

Merci, mon ami. I like your diagnosis but much better than Cauda Equina (Syndrome) which was my ER diagnosis 😂

Yes, I do have the joy, and I know where it is coming from. I was telling my wife yesterday that the joy and peace and strength that Scripture and songs promised are no longer a future state but my present state. It’s a very different peace I feel now compared to two years ago while going through heart surgery recovery. Back then, I was struggling to get a hold of it, but now, it’s already in hand and infusing me and I feel like I did nothing. You let go of something to make room for something else or something like that 🙂

  12. This just released. I don’t know much about the franchise. Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons (NSW) https://a.co/d/cPlqxJK
  13. Personal update — I’ve been dealing with back pain for more than a year. Late Monday, I went to the ER and Tuesday morning, I underwent a surgery for a herniated disc. It was diagnosed as a medical emergency. Surgery went well, but I will be in the hospital for another week. I’ve lost some function of my left leg and will be rehabbing in the hospital, and after I’m discharged, I will be returning for more intensive rehab. I am expected to make a full recovery.

In the meantime, should I be worried about my 7800 Asteroids score in the high score challenge? 😂 Game on 🕹️

Oh man!  I'm sorry about your back.  I told you to get an LCD instead of that CRT!  🙂  Just kidding. Laughter helps, right?  Best wishes on your healing.  Hey, when my new car arrives, maybe I'll bring that Amiga up to you!

Hahaha thanks, Rick. That sounds great. Maybe we can schedule a lunch or something with Joe Decuir as well unless you will have other plans.

I'll PM you.  I have no plans other than Amiga delivery and my usual favorite Seattle pasttime:  "Grabbing a bag of Dick's"  🙂  Lunch with Joe Decuir would be awesome.

  15. The guy who made these said he used three filaments of different colors. I was super impressed by the lack of banding between the colors.
  16. Regrettable purchases 😂 Is there a thread for that? A month ago, I bought a game for $70 and was thrilled that I got it for a great price. I went to put it on the shelf and I saw another copy staring back at me. I went from 😄 to ☹️ in 2 seconds.
  17. Pac-Mania Nintendo Entertainment System Difficulty: Default High Score: 153,900 July 10, 2023
  18. That was a fun video. Thanks for sharing, Dr. Trek.
  19. Speaking of homebrews, the 7800 is catching fire. AtariAge has several 7800 homebrews releasing later this year. I recently picked up the digital version of EXO but haven't gotten around to setting up my Dragonfly yet to play it.
  20. Elmer's glue stick? Cool. The end label on my Crystal Castles cartridge fell off and I'd been wondering what to use to glue it back on.
  21. First off, I love that homebrews are included. Given the limited size of 7800 official library, I find it helpful to see how they all compare. Second, I am surprised at the total omission of --not even an honorable mention. Whenever I read people talking about their favorite 7800 game, it seems often mentioned, so I'm surprised to see it not make the list. On the flip side, I'm not surprised by the game in the top position as I've seen it come up often in such discussions. Third, seeing the lack of original games that aren't arcade ports on the system really did the 7800 a big disservice. I may be wrong, but I'm guessing that people may have tired of arcade ports by then considering how arcade ports were central to 2600 and 5200 marketing. The NES library brought a freshness and originality that people wanted? More games back in the day like the one in the second spot probably would have helped the 7800 cause back. And finally, great video! I see I'm missing a few homebrews mentioned.
  22. Yes, I believe 116,770 is the current high score.
  23. A member of the local gaming group yesterday offered up two CX52 controllers for free. He wasn't sure whether they worked or not. I stopped by his house this afternoon and picked up a pair of CX52 in very nice condition. I gave them a brief test by navigating the menu of my AtariMax cartridge and trying to start a game. On both controllers, the stick and number pad worked fine but the fire button did not seem to register. I'll probably send them to Best Electronics to exchange them for Best's reconditioned ones (although I already have a pair from Best). I have to say that to my eyes, the 5200 controllers are the best looking of all 80s controllers in this form factor. Just like the SuperSystem itself, they are the pinnacle of 80s design aesthetics. Yes, I'm an Atari 5200 fanboy 🙂
  24. Today, I attended a local retro computer gathering for the second time in hopes of running into Joe Decuir to get my Atari 800 signed. Alas, Joe wasn't there. His friend told me that he got held back today to grade student assignments. While that was disappointing, it was offset by these 3D printed figures I saw. My photos don't do them justice. I have never seen 3D printed objects with seemingly iridescent colors. On top of that, the dragon was a single print job?! And its joints articulate?! Maybe it's because I don't follow 3D printing to know and these are just ho hum, but to me, these are amazing. The member who brought them made it sound like a no big deal. Regardless, thank you to the member who brought them and even offered them for free to attendees. About getting my computer signed, maybe the third time will be the charm 🙂
  25. Mail call from Germany -- I ordered boxes for three game cartridges that I have and two more for games (Last Starfighter, Crazy Otto) that I recently ordered from AtariAge where a box wasn't available as an option, and for Venetian Blinds which I am looking to get a repro cartridge made. These were purchased on Etsy from Marc Oberhäuser's store AtariGameBoxes. He makes game boxes for the AtariAge store. I purchased several from him in the past. Now that he has an Etsy store, it's a simpler buying process. I'm a slave to the cardboard 😂
