Lots of volunteers I'll bet. Bummer to lose stuff...but an opportunity to buy new ones. On the bright side, much better to forget the chargers than the phone or tablet!

Man, ain't it the best to try out new things and find great new discoveries? Keep on sharing. That's what makes this place the best.

I just don't get why some of these (not picking on just Coleco here) min-arcade machines play anything other than the original arcade version. For example, the Centipede mini-arcade that plays the 7800 version of the game. What is the point? I think they should either be VFD like the old-school versions, or play the arcade rom only. I pretty much stopped collecting them once this became clear. I still have a Space Invaders (the LCD version), but sold off the rest. Frogger was the worst one...there were two different versions -- both bad. Arcade version would have been killer.

Solar Storm is an interesting game. It looks great, and has 2 screens. But it doesn't stay fun for long. I'm also not a huge Atlantis fan (same programmer). It just seems like a half-baked game to me. Looks and sounds fantastic...but those side guns are pretty much useless. Once you lose the middle gun, the game will end quickly.

Why were they so intent on adding feet?

He would have made a great mascot. Imagine little tip bubbles with Pac Man in subsequent manuals. Or even just a little Pac Man in the corner of each box. Unfortunately, we just got a bunch of very differently themed images that never took advantage of what they had.

First thought is that Atari could have used a mascot. Pac-Man maybe, but they kept changing his presentation in marketing materials. Nintendo did a great job with mascots. They were (and are) the masters.

Welcome! We'd love to know more about your 2600 emulation project. Was that for a commercial product? Pretty cool stuff.

Montgomery Ward memories: My first home computer was from Montgomery Ward at Mall 205 in Portland, OR. It was a Commodore VIC-20, and I'm pretty sure we paid about $200 for it. Very early 80's. Maybe 1982 or 3. I loved that computer so much, and still have it. Almost immediately purchased a Commodore tape drive to go with it (from Toys R Us). My family did a ton of shopping at that location. Two items I still have with the MW logo are my garage fridge (purchased in 1986 -- still in use) and a very old wheelbarrow I inherited from my father. Probably from the early 1970's. Also still in service. Rusty, but still functional. A little spray of grease on the wheel is all it needs each spring. There's probably more around here that I've forgotten about. I'll have to look around a little. When Pong machines were big, MW had a great display of the various systems. That's where I would spend time while my folks shopped...drooling over the Coleco Telstar and Bally Astrocade. Later, they sold systems and games, but didn't really have displays you could play. Still fun to look. That particular location was turned into a Target when Montgomery Ward went out of business. In that Target store, I still sometimes get flashbacks to the departments that were in each spot. It's kind of spooky!

I agree with your point on Chromebooks. It's really nice to get a brand new computer sometimes -- everything is new and works, and the battery is fresh. $200 is a great price to pay. I had no idea they could be hacked, so that's good to know for future reference. At the same time, it's just really cool to re-purpose something old and useless. A computer for $3??? Why not. Makes a fun project. The little tiny laptop a few posts above was $150 from Staples. They (and office depot) usually have something similar still for $200-$250. I'd say they are totally worth it, but only if it comes with a good CPU. Avoid the AMD E1, or any single-core processor. Heck, the Windows 10 license alone is $125 or so by itself! Your push back on installing on linux is fine by me...it's just different. Once you get the hang of it, no big deal at all. And as MaximumRD mentioned, most of the stuff you need is available via the Software Manager app, and that's super easy to use.

SOLD! For sale is a Sears Heavy Sixer in very nice condition. It comes with a Sears branded set of paddles and a black Atari power adapter (I think most heavy sixers came with grey power adapters). The paddles have been cleaned and are jitter free. The console is in original condition and it works perfectly. It has excellent picture quality. I'm asking $75 plus shipping. Or make me an offer or trade. I promise to wrap this thing up in bubble wrap and ship in a large box. That may make shipping a little more costly, but it will keep it from getting damaged.
