I would like to share a bit of a story with you guys that just happened not even an hour ago.

Long story short, my wife's helper had to bring her two girls with her today because there was no babysitter available.  We don't mind and usually have lots of things to do with kids just for this reason.  The oldest one, who is 7, asks me if she could play the game I was playing.  I had just finished rebuilding the controller and was taking it for a test run.  When she asked I handed her the controller.  The best test in the world is letting a child use it, right?

What impressed me the most is here is a child, never played an Atari before but has a Wii and plays XBOX, plays Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Man on the 5200 and as soon as the game screen appeared she is going, "Wow!!  That looks cool!"  She plays for about an hour total and I'm watching her on the screen and how she is using the controller.  All is going good, no problems, and she is not having any issues with the controller.

What was said next really shocked me..."I really like this machine."  Just as calm and collective as possible.  So, for me, that tells me that the 5200 is really not a bad system after all if a child, who has never played one before, says something like that their first time of using it.

I had to share this because I thought it was cool to experience.

Reason for edit:  I had originally posted a picture.  Since this child is not mine, and for the child's safety, I thought it best to ask her parent's permission to post the picture first on this site.  I got permission so the picture has returned.

First of all, please excuse my worse english, i have only few chances to talk and speak, so it feels like walking on high heels. Oh, a rhyme.

Ok, Mr. Ballblazer. All had started with a Atari 2600 (what else!) on Christmas 1981. My next Console was the Atari Jaguar in 1995. Later i had bought the Lynx, the 7800 and three years ago the Atari 5200, which wasn't sold in old Europe. But i also collect for Colecovision, Intellivision, Vectrex and all of Sega and Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft, 3DO. I own a CD32, because it is a nice little funbringer. But you know the song: We will never forget our first love!

You can get news about Return on our homepage https://www.return-magazin.de/. So far it's only in german. We try to produce an english PDF-version, but this is expensive and difficult. It's only a hobby project for the most of us and so there is no big money to earn and to invest.

Btw: Please check out Sam's Journey, a new plattformer for the C64. i am sure, you will love it. It is announced for next year.

One of the games we would frequently play with my buddies with Forbidden Forest, and to this day I consider it a remarkable game.

The C-64 with its legendary SID chip could produce some amazing music, and one of the keys of Forbidden Forest was its creepy musical score (written by the programmer Paul Norman).   This, along with the ambient graphics (good but not great, however extremely effective) made for a very tense and enjoyable experience.

The graphics had a nice parallax scrolling effect, the monsters were all very creepy (with their own theme music), and the gameplay was solid (although maybe a bit frustrating at times with aiming).

I remember completing the game by beating the Demogorgon was very satisfying

This game had a sequel, but I found it to be sub-par compared to the original.

Any other fans of this game?

This 7800 version is really great.  Initially, I wasn't a big fan.  Everything is "bigger/chunkier" than the arcade version.  And I hate the lined border around the screen.

But then I got addicted playing for this contest.  The 7800 was built for this game.  Things get really fast.  There's not a trace of flicker.  Super tight controls.

    I now love it.

I have had three Apple computers at once in 08. One was the blueberry all-in-one iMac or eMac...I don't remember which, the second one was a beige tower G3 with a G4 processor installed I got for helping out a friend who ran a computer business, and the third one was a IIc I found for $7 at my hometown's thrift store for the animal shelter. I was having a rough time, living out of my car, and had just went through a divorce so I gave them away because I felt I was toting around excess weight that I didn't need. I don't regret doing it because I know they went to a good home, it was a decision I didn't want to make but I couldn't use them and I knew they might be getting ruined keeping them in the trunk of my car that was slinging them around. My favorite of those was the beige tower...it had connections that were ahead for their time. It had composite connections on the back that appeared to be standard and was running a version of OS X without breaking a sweat. I don't remember how much memory was installed in it. I did use them before my divorce and the beige tower was the one I had the most fun with. Machintosh Gardens became my friend and place to turn to for abandoned Apple games. Atari remains my favorite computers of all time but if I could I would grab up another biege tower again. Not an Apple II, I know, but a decent machine for the time. The IIc seemed a little strapped for power in my opinion.

Aha!  I think it was kind of a chore to get a proper sound board and get joysticks connected.  Also, the joysticks were analog.  Maybe that's part of it.  No cartridges.  You need a floppy drive.  Do they work with TV's?  I think a monitor is needed.

I think we are circling our answer...I think it may be a painful thing to collect.

Back in the 80's, they were very popular.  Lots of people and schools had them.  Apple II computers....whether they were the II, II+, IIe, IIc models.

But why are they so scarce now?  I've been hoping to find one to buy for many years, but I've rarely ever seen one for sale.  Why???

Is it because they were so large?  Were they fragile -- and thus broken and thrown away?  Where did they all go?
