I confess. I like Plug n Play units. Perhaps its something about having a bunch of console or arcade games from my childhood all packed into a single joystick. They also seem to be one of my most popular review features on my channel.  So I decided to make a thread highlighting them, in case you enjoy them too.

I'll start with a unit I just got from a trade here on the forums from Rowsdower!
It's the Namco Pac-Man TV Games unit by Jakks Pacific:

Raw Thrills the people behind Galaga Assault, Worlds Biggest Pac Man, Aliens Armageddon and many other cool modern arcade games comes this awesome Pac Man Premium L.E.D. desktop clock!

This is an officially licensed product from Bandai Namco and is a limited edition item.   Comes in a nice sturdy well decorated cardboard box with instructions, power supply and the clock.

The clock does not have sound, but does feature two neat animations from the Pac Man arcade game - ghosts chasing Pac Man and then Pac Man chasing the scared blue ghosts.

The display is made up of multi-color L.E.D.s and are very crisp and bright.  On the back of the unit are two buttons, one to get into the time setting mode and the other to set the time (12/24, Hours, Minutes)
    Pros:
Bright full color L.E.D. display Pac Man arcade animations Compact size for desk - 8x4 Cons:
No sound effects No clock memory of power is removed Overall a really nice desk top clock, especially for all us Pac Man nuts!
Visit Raw Thrills webpage for purchasing info and what other cool things this company does!

Lots more about this, including very comprehensive design notes, over at the Atari Museum.

And they "said it could not be done"...  ha!

A big thank you to Rowsdower for this Pac-Man Plug n Play! And evidently, I'm a dragon serial killer too!

In one of my quickest turnarounds ever, I've already posted a review of it on my YouTube channel (I have games I recorded footage of months ago still waiting for their chance to get on the air)

I bought this lot just to get Countermeasure.  Anyone want to trade for Space Invaders and/or Super Breakout?

That is very cool!  I'll bet they work very nicely and feel good in the hand.  The original paddles are great -- another design that Atari nailed on the first try.  But these look nice too.

    Hi MalakZero,

thanks for the nice compliment, i am the one who engineered the CX-30 Evolved paddle controllers.

they are out right now, i need to get more built. they work well, and are a bit faster than the original paddle controller. i was almost out of the original paddle controllers, when i thought about all of the Atari 7800 controllers i had left, and what to do with them? then i got a idea to convert them into dual-button paddle controllers.

it took a while to find the right pots to use, you cannot use the original ones very well, they work, but just barely, it's tough to get them just right.

then there was the glue problem. but in the end, it all came together, and voila! i engineered them, patent pending and all.

i bought 1000s of proline joysticks from Atari, that were customer returns from Atari. at one time i thought "what am i going to do with all these?" today with the original paddle controllers disappearing, the CX-30 evolved selling, best electronics gold upgrades, my 7800 grip stick upgrade which requires a proline joystick cable, and another project i am looking at that will require more proline parts, i can see the end coming much much sooner than i ever thought.

    thanks for your interests

I don't know man...the fact that they legally had to hold a private contest for the third prize was kind of surprising.  Was that third prize ever awarded?

“They held a very quiet, non-public contest with the 10 people who solved the Waterworld contest. The crown was awarded to the third prize winner.” While we could find no hard evidence of this contest, Vendel says the contest had to take place by law.

Interesting research on what happened to the prizes that were and weren't awarded. Looks like only the chalice remains.
