I've had my eye out for a 600XL for a long time. Well, I finally found one for a nice price via Facebook. The cool XL tape drive was a nice bonus.
The 600XL works, and I've made project plans to expand it's memory to 64k.
The only 8-bit computer left now on my "want" list is a 1200XL.

sounds like upside to me. Maybe there's abandoned locations in your area to explore...

Darn, I was certain it would be Ninja Golf... It's my stock reply whenever the 7800 comes up.

The only downside is these videos make me want to explore these locations myself.

That's some amazing graphics for the 2600.

LeeJ07 reacted to Atari 5200 Guy in Abandoned - Youtube series
I've been watching Bright Sun's Abandoned for a while now. It's interesting stuff they dig up. There is also one other abandoned series I forget the exact name other than it has Jake in it. Then I switched to watching abandoned railroads and people making carts to ride those rails. THAT would be something I would do!

Very cool! I've been getting into this sort of thing recently, ever since I started watching the Dan Bell videos posted in here. Very interesting stuff.

Along the same lines as the "Dead Mall" series, I found this YouTube series by Bright Sun Films about abandoned places. The videos are short but well done.
Here's one on the Pontiac Sliverdome:
And another on Disney's Discovery Island:
Looks like there's about 30 in the series.

LeeJ07 got a reaction from Atari 5200 Guy in Getting the smoke smell out of manuals
Speaking of preserving old manuals, sadly the Atari Trak-ball manual I saved from the trash awhile back was essentially destroyed back when the storm wrecked our house earlier this year.

I have, in the past, found a game called Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions in my Xbox, and Robocop in a boxed NES.

LeeJ07 got a reaction from MaximumRD in Getting the smoke smell out of manuals
Basically. I had it stored with my Wii instruction manuals and the whole stack got wet. The trak-ball manual became stuck fast to the cover of the Wii manual, and all attempts to separate the two have proved fruitless. They just tear whenever I tried, so I've got two manuals fused together and completely useless.
The mention of using an hair dryer in the link you shared just happened to remind me of one of the suggestions for separation google turned up back when I was trying to save the two manuals. Needless to say, it didn't work.
EDIT: Now that I think of it, perhaps I ought to post a thread chronicling my efforts to dry out my collection, and what has worked and what hasn't as a helpful reference...

The 2001 and 3001 have a built in microphone, and faster processors. I believe they were also redesigned to make connecting them to a television much easier.
My model is a 3001 that I purchased new in 2009, and it seems to me to be the absolute best version.

I think I sent a cart someone opened up & had some dead insect in it

Love the Army Men!!!
Only thing I have found in a system is a game here and there (too many to list) dst and dead bugs. Found a huge empty spider nest in an NES before, that was cool.

LeeJ07 reacted to Starbuck66 in 2600 games are packed!
Thought I'd share a pic:
I have more boxes/boxed stuff; this was my loose stuff and my two NIB games some friends of mine gave me for Xmas last year.

LeeJ07 reacted to Starbuck66 in B-17 Bomber
So I played a few missions on level 2 last night... I could have kept going, but it was getting late and I needed to get to bed.
Score after first target hit and returned to Britain:
Score after hitting second target and returning (lost my bomb sight for this one too):
First two missions I ran with 5 bombs and the rest fuel. Staring at the map I thought, why not hit two targets on one mission? So that's what I tried on the third mission with 8 bombs, I put 4 bombs into each target (a factory and an airfield):
So my idea kind of worked; you can hit multiple targets, but I think its better if you get more bombs to land on a higher point target.
Some other things to note:
Go full throttle to get into the air, but then back it down to about 1900 RPM's. You'll still gain altitude fairly well, but you won't guzzle fuel nearly as fast.
Going full throttle when there's flak helps you get hit a lot less often. I also tried the juking technique suggested in the manual and it did seem to help a little.
I'm going to play more with the bomb to fuel mix to maximize my score. It seems like the more bombs you lay on the target, the more points you get.
