  1. The February ClubVCS Recharged Squad Challenge game is Neo Breakout from Atari 50!

    Live now through February 28th!

  2. How many AV switches are in your original hardware setup?

    I have three: 5-in/2-out S-Video, 4-in/1-out component, 4-in/1-out HDMI.

The retro consoles run into a RetroTnk 2xPro to the HDMI switcher. They also run to a Samsung GX TV for light gun games. The modern consoles go to the HDMI switcher. HDMI for all consoles is out through an mClassic to an Avermedia Live gmGamer 2 Plus capture card to my 4k TV.

It is an exhausting setup and makes me want to box it all up and move to emulation...almost.

On my 1998 CRT Sony Trinitron I have one coaxial input and one Stereo RCA AV input, which I have connected to an external switch box that accepts 4 additional Stereo RCA inputs.

On my Sony HDTV I have 4 HDMI inputs, one component input, 5 RCA AV inputs, two coaxial inputs, and one optical audio input. It still doesn't like my Atari 2600.

  3. It's official! Caverns of Mars: Recharged is coming to the VCS and other platforms on March 9!

There was apparently a "leak" on Atari's website yesterday. They've pulled the image and staff on their Discord are not denying or confirming.

It should be a good one and an interesting choice. This is an even deeper cut than Gravitar. I'm really liking this pivot from licensing to actually making games.

Agree.  This feels like a great step into a game that hasn't already been rehashed 100 times.  I love it.

I hope they do a new "Rescue on Fractalus" too, although I'll bet that involves permission from Lucasfilm.

    4. Justin

      Justin

@RickR I agree! Rescue on Fractalus would be fantastic! Yes I believe Lucas, which is now Disney, still owns the rights, but sometimes games like these can be licensed a bit more easily than you'd expect. It's when you run into franchises, say like Atari reissuing the Star Wars arcade, where licensing gets to be prohibitive. I'd love to see some games from the Lynx library "Recharged"!

  5. The first Recharged Squad Challenge of the New Year is live now!  VCTR-SCTR from Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration!

Yes, that's the Atari sitewide sale which began the past week. I'm talking about the VCS console e-store. VCS games should be on sale starting tomorrow!

      Ohhhhhhhhh lol

      (Sligh difference, I see)

  10. For those interested in this sort of thing, here is the required mid-year report for Atari SA as of 9/30/2022.  Interesting mentions of the VCS for you tea leaf readers out there.

These results are ahead of the release of Atari Mania, Missile Command Recharged and Atari50 so a lot of costs ahead of revenues. Assuming their Year End report for March won't be as bleak.

For the Hardware section, I think it means the VCS is still in production...just manufactured externally now.  That's how I read it anyway.

The financial numbers are not good.  I hope every gamer here who appreciates the new direction of Atari understands...WE NEED TO SUPPORT THEM as best we can by buying hardware and software.  The games they've been producing have been outstanding.

You're 💯 @RickR!  The last few years have been the best output from Atari since at least the Hasbro-era, if not the Tramiel-era.  Fans who appreciate the change in direction need to support the company.

The Recharged titles have been excellent and new IP like Kombinera is inventive and in the spirit of old Atari, and the VCS is a great achievement from such a small team. I understand skepticism among old skool fans, the XP debacle and crypto.  That said, credit where credit is due.

  11. I was thinking the other day, if you include the Flashback Friday titles, the modern VCS has had more official releases than the 5200, 7800, Jaguar, XEGS (labeled) and Lynx. Pretty crazy, right?

  12. A new reimagined title from Atari and Jeff Minter:  Akka Arrh!

Coming February 2023 to the Atari VCS and other platforms!

  13. Jetboard Joust is our Recharged Squad Challenge at ClubVCS!  This game pays homage to Defender but with rogue-like elements.  I highly recommend checking it out on the VCS or any other platform on which its available!

Looks like a fun game, but I'm probably sitting this month out.  I don't own it, and I blew my budget on the Black Friday sale.  Good luck to everyone else though!

I did download the "Plex" app for VCS after watching Mockduck's youtube review.  That one is cool.  A lot of free tv content to watch.

  14. VCS games sales are live now. This is a great chance to pick these titles up at a discount!

We might do a BPM Boy challenge in the future. Not sure if you've grabbed that yet but it's definitely an awesome game!

And Mockduck's Atari Mania review is pretty spot on.

    4. RickR

      RickR

OK, I've purchased BPM Boy, Atari Mania, and Missile Command Recharged.

Thank you for the heads up.

  15. PSA: Atari's Black Friday Sale is up and the VCS bundles are 40% off. This is the best deal we've seen in months on the VCS!

$239.99 for an All-In Black Walnut Edition (Retail: $399)

$179.99 for an Onyx VCS Base (Retail: $299)

Plus a new Atari branded "PC On-a-Stick" for an optimal PC mode experience on the VCS.

    Controllers are also 25% off.

A good sale if you're on the fence about the modern VCS.

  16. What was your favorite Recharged game released to the VCS in 2022?  Let us know in our ClubVCS Twitter poll!

      RickR

I voted Yars', but they are all good.

      Sabertooth

I voted Yars' too but Breakout with the Classic is a close second after the recent fix. MCR 2022 is also a really solid entry to the series.
