I appreciate your opinion very much!  My main observations are that I think I like the PS3 more just because the controller is more comfortable.  But the games take longer to load.

Weird. Games on mine load pretty quick.  But I’ve only tried GT5 so far. My 360 consoles are much slower.  I also have that Hydro Thunder game.  I got it free with Games with Gold when they still did that.

You need to get a PS5 man. That thing blows Xbox One out of the water!

  2. Since having these modern consoles I’m on the lookout for new friends.

I go by kamakazi20012 across all consoles.  I don’t know how to find/add friends on Switch yet.

I can be found on XBOX, PSN, Nintendo Switch Online, Steam and Epic.

On Switch my profile picture is Yoshi and just says kamakazi.

On PSN my icon is an 8-bit space ship much like that in Galaga and I go by kamakazi20012 there.

    On Xbox look for kamakazi20012.

I’ll accept any invites from members here. Just let me know it’s you sending them because I get invites often from people I don’t know.

  3. Thanks to Epic Games my library of PC games is over 300. I have claimed every free game they’ve offered weekly and during their 12 days of Christmas giveaways.  I don’t even play those much let alone check them out. I have them just to have should I ever get that urge to try something different. I mostly play Steam games and I’ve picked up a few dozen titles at GOG when they go on sale but mostly for those old DOS games.

I spend most of my modern gaming time on modern game consoles instead of computers. Since getting a PlayStation 5, a Switch, and now a PS3…and I have another surprise console coming…I’m enjoying exploring the modern offerings.  Plus I’ve had ModNation Racers since before COVID and no way to play it. I use to have fun designing tracks on the demo I had of the game so I’m really looking forward to that one now that I can play it.

I also picked up GT5 for PS3, GT7 for PS5 (that one blew my mind), and Mario Kart 8 for the Switch.  I also picked up F-Zero 99 to enjoy.  So I have plenty of modern gaming options.

I'm sorry to hear about your wife.  I hope you both feel better soon.

Neat addition!  I look forward to hearing what you think and how you think it compares to Xbox-360.  I've been having trouble deciding which of those two to spend time on.

I had a PS3 before I had a 360.  Even though I have more history and experience with the 360 I honestly prefer the PS3. It seems to be a more capable console.

I personally like the fact I don’t need batteries for the controllers.  And Xbox 360 controllers gobble those up.  We have rechargeable batteries for our 360 controllers and I’m changing those daily if I do any heavy gaming. I have also had 360 controllers wear out after a few months of use.

Over the years it was in production the 360 dashboard got lots of updates. The last update seemed to slow the system down somehow and it now has a habit of popping up a message saying you have been playing for hours when the system has just been turned on and a game started.  It’s annoying and they won’t fix it.

The main decision you would have to make boils down to exclusive titles.  Halo, Forza, Gears of War can only be played on the 360 while Gran Turismo, Jak & Daxter, and God of War are on PlayStation.  It really boils down to what games you have that are not on the other you would want to spend time on.

Other factors to consider: Xbox is slowly removing 360 games from the Marketplace and have removed Indie games completely.  While they have kept some games there it’s only about a quarter of what use to be there. I’ve noticed the same with the PS3 Store since the last time I send it over 10 years ago but it has more offerings.

  5. Well, I got brave and took apart my Enhanced Edition cartridge.  Didn’t see anything but I remembered watching John Hancock showcasing new Atari VCS games by Atari where he said they don’t work because someone put the circuit boards in backwards.  Take them apart, flip the board, put it back together, and they will work.  So I tried that.  Nothing. Tried it the way it was going in and it started working again.  So I played a test game.  Game 3. Did a full run, lasted maybe five minutes.  Satisfied I turned the game off, reassembled it, put it back in the 2600 and…stupid thing won’t work again.  I’ve been trying to get it to work again since with no luck 😢

Yes it does.  As mentioned prior.  USB keyboard support is there, and also a virtual keyboard.  You can load basic and program as you see fit.  However, it is not know if you can save or not.  My guess is yes, but it will be a bit convoluted.  You'd load a DOS image from the USB memory stick and be able to save to that.

If I recall correctly, the C64 mini allowed this (the ability to save to a disk image on USB).

Ahh.  I missed that part.  Thank you!

You could make that case for the 2600 as well. We're in a different age now and a different market. The 2600+ and this new 400 mini are not competing as industry leaders the way PS5, Xbox and Switch are today.

That's also why I thought it would be far more economical for Atari to roll their modern support for the 5200 format into a new A8+ product.

That makes sense and you are right…different times, different market.  Maybe all this revamping is gearing them up for a much bigger plan?

Atari has an unreleased 5200 model they could use if they used their brains and actually did it.  THAT would be cool to see happen!
