I loved this game as a kid, but it is kind of hard to go back to after playing Arkanoid, which is one of my favorites. Thank you for reminding me of how bad I am at this game.

OK...the 2600 does a decent job of playing Super Breakout.  I prefer the 5200 version though for the colors.  The A8 Super Breakout, while not bad either, has pastel colors that really don't look to me.  All games are good no matter what.  I just wish the 2600 and A8 used different colors than what they did.  Here's my score for now...

What Is The Scoreboard And How Does It Work?
The Scoreboard is a Database of high scores achieved by Members in our community. Scores only get added to the Scoreboard when someone beats the previous score. Think of the Scoreboard like a High Score screen at the end of an arcade game. You want to leave your mark! Some arcades have big chalkboards when you first walk in, with handwritten high scores for each game in the arcade. Pretty soon word gets around and everybody knows your initials! The Scoreboard is a place in the forums to come to share your personal high scores. Just like the screen where you enter your initials, posts are in a minimalist bare-bones format. We do it that way so it's easy to find the scores you're looking for. And because a new score is only added if it's the new high score for the page, you know the further you scroll down the higher the scores will be.

Why Is It Important To Post In This Format?
We need your help to keep the Scoreboard easy to read and quickly look up scores! For the same reason a High Score screen on an arcade game keeps things clean and simple, we have to keep our Scoreboard in a simple, organized format too. High Scores submitted without being property formatted are subject to editing or removal.

Search For Your Game On The Scoreboard Before You Post
Avoid creating duplicate threads for the same game title and system. Before posting, search to see if a thread has already been started for this game title. Games are listed alphabetically and by system to make them easy to find. You can also use the search bar at the top right of the page search the forum for the system you're posting your score for to see if a thread has already been started for this game. If it has, you should post your new high score in the existing thread. If not, you'll be the first to post a new High Score!

Only Post If You Have The New High Score For The Thread
Post your score only if it's the highest score so far on the page! Think of the Scoreboard like a High Score screen at the end of an arcade game. It's easy to follow. We do it that way so it's easy to scroll down and easily find scores. You know the further you scroll down the page, the higher the scores will be. Please only post if you have achieved a new high score for the thread.

Why Do My Scoreboard Posts Not Appear Right Away?
Did you post your score in the Scoreboard, but it didn't immediately appear? That's okay! We've received your score and will review it first before it goes live. Posts to the Scoreboard require approval by a Moderator prior to appearing in the Forums. This is done as a moderation measure to fix improper formatting, filter out superfluous posts and maintain the integrity of the Scoreboard.

    The Credibility Of Your Score
The scoreboard is for “Nerd Cred” only. Games are meant to be fun and we don’t have officials on hand to verify scores. The credibility of your score is going to be upon you to make it believable. Posting a YouTube video of your game goes a long way to substantiating credibility. A photo of your score is all that's required, but a video of your performance is even better! Especially if you're the type of gamer to have ridiculous skills and can roll the score over. Using your cell phone to take a photo or video of your score is a good way to go.
Photos can be uploaded and attached to your post to substantiate your score! A YouTube link can be included in your post to show a video of your performance. To include a YouTube video in your post, copy your video's YouTube link and paste into your post where you want the video to appear. Your video will appear in your post where you pasted the link.

Screen captures are not allowed as they are easily Photoshopped

Happy Holidays! It's time for our 2nd Annual Atari I/O Secret Santa! If you'd like to be part of Secret Santa this year, please post a message below saying that you'd like to participate. If you can, include a link to your Want List in your post, or a list of game systems you collect for. The last day to sign up is Tuesday, November 15, 2016. Names will be assigned impartially by our Moderating team, and we will send you a PM with your Secret Santa information no later than Friday, November 18, 2016.

We love classic video games and retro life, and as such gift items can be used or refurbished so long as they meet the criteria of costing you around $30.

Your Secret Santa package can be made up of more than one gift, so long as their total value is around $30 and so long as you've put together a gift package that you feel would be magical and special. (Please don't send a box of "junk")

It's preferable that the presents you send are gift wrapped. We really want this to feel like something special. However, it would be okay to send an item without gift wrapping if you were ordering from an Atari vendor, Amazon or eBay and wanted to have it shipped directly to your person's house as opposed to paying twice for shipping. We would encourage you to gift wrap your presents when possible.

If you're unable to participate in Secret Santa this year, please think about donating to a deserving charity of your choice. One charity to consider is the Oregon Food Bank, which RickR brought to our attention last year. You can visit them online at www.oregonfoodbank.org

If you would like to participate, you must sign up by Tuesday, November 15, 2016

Atari 5200 Guy reacted to Justin in This Zelda Arcade Cabinet Is Totally from an Alternate Timeline
Nintendo may have abandoned the arcade scene the moment that NES thing started to take off, but that hasn't stopped some fans over the years from developing their own arcade versions of some of Nintendo's greatest games.

Among them, few are as impressive as this custom Legend of Zelda cabinet:

Made by a fan known as Wyo on the Arcade Museum forums, this cabinet is actually just an elaborate housing for an NES running the game to a 20" CRT screen. The devil, however, is in the design details that Wyo describes via a post on Arcade Museum.

"Basically, it’s an all wood construction," says the creator. "Primered and block sanded smooth and straight. I painted it with metallic gold automotive urethane, and then added a mid coat of .008 gold flake. After I cleared it, I wetsanded it 1000-3000 and then polished it. It turned out pretty cool."

Unfortunately the apartment where we live at says trick or treating is not allowed.  It's considered "soliciting" by the owner(s).  But our town does have this thing they do to celebrate called the Trick or Treat trail.  The businesses in the downtown area dress up and stand on the sidewalks to give out tricks and/or treats.  Mostly for the kids but we have seen adults dress up as well.  The trail goes for 4 or 5 blocks starting at the intersection behind city hall and going all the way to the post office and circles around to the other side.  My wife and I usually do some small dressing up, put a Halloween dress on our dog, and go somewhere to watch the event.  Weather permitting of course.

I'm creating this poll because I am seriously planning on doing a video series that places the 5200 in the spotlight for a change.  Many video game videos I have watched briefly talk about this beautiful console...but they rarely talk about the good points of the console.

What I have in mind would discuss the console in a way that is truthful but also like a what-to-do and what-not-to-do showcasing the advantages and disadvantages of owning a 5200, how to approach it, what to expect, what not to expect, controller rebuild tutorials, game reviews, how to play the games from the 5200 point-of-view, etc.

I would like to know if Atari.IO members think this would be a good video series to do.  It would be YouTube videos for my blog here on Atari.IO.  It would be easier to do the videos instead of writing the blog posts because there are so many things to talk about and points to make that words and a few pictures sometimes can't capture or get across.  Oh...it would also need a name of which I have not thought of yet.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to express your thoughts and giving your feedback on this.  Long live Atari!

Atari 5200 Guy got a reaction from Lost Dragon in Would Atari Lynx have worked as a Nintendo Switch style game console?
One thing I've noticed about most gaming magazines of the past...if the review was financially backed by the developer it usually got a higher-than-normal rating.  This is most likely to help keep the funds coming in to support the magazine and its staff.  Sega obviously had more money to blow than Atari so that might explain why the Master System got better reviews.  But to compare a home console to a portable console ... that's like putting an amateur in the driver's seat of a Chevette and placing them in a race against professional racers.  I'm not saying the Lynx had less power than the SMS.  The opposite is more true.  The Lynx was a more powerful console than the SMS if you go by specifications.  But the home consoles and portable consoles are two entirely different fields and should never be compared against each other.  In my opinion anyway.
