The big difference is this isn't emulated like all those other systems.

They are actually trying to re-make the original Sega Genesis!

 

This is a much more expensive process. When Analogue made their own NES is a similar fashion, but with a new design, it sold out with a $500 price tag.  

 

And I will also note that this is less than what the Sega Genesis cost at launch ($179 before inflation)

 

However, this most likely will not come to the US, but instead stay in Brazil.

Another thing to consider is the voltage is 110 like the US, but the outlet is round pegs, so you need an adapter or a US power supply.

It makes some sense, actually. In Brazil, both the Master System and Mega Drive were hugely popular, much bigger than Nintendo ever was in that region.

 

Indeed, the Master System was so popular that it was still being made by Tec Toy for the Brazillian market for over a decade after it had been discontinued in the US and Europe.

For $125 you can pre-order them now.

The price is high for my liking.  You can buy a real Genesis for under $40 dollars, grab an Everdrive for under $50, and do everything this machine can do.  But what fascinated me was how popular the Genesis still is in Brazil.   Much like Atari, it seems to have held on much longer.

The more I read about this I get more impressed. Will I order one? No, I think $125USD plus what ever import costs are not worth it to me personally. Do I find it cool that its not just another "console on a chip"? Yup.

 

I Don't know. we will see what comes out of this.
