Fair Play

Your integrity is everything. Players should play fairly, be honest, and have fun! Falsified scores will result in your immediate removal from the site. It goes without saying that we will not allow cheats, hacks, cartridge frying, enhancements, rewinds, deceitful photo manipulation, subterfuge, or any other unfair advantage. Everybody hates a cheater.

Message

Welcome to our 121st Squad Challenge! :pac_man: For this challenge we're celebrating the life of Nukey Shay along with Atari National Pac-Man Day which takes place every year on April 3rd. Pac-Man 8K is a beautiful hack of Atari's original Pac-Man for the 2600, but with many improvements to demonstrate what could have been done at the time had Atari taken a different path.

Do you think if Atari had released Nukey Shay's 8K version of Pac-Man in 1981 that it would've changed history and things might have been different? ROM is provided below. GOOD LUCK!

It's quite a rework of the original 2600 version, but I doubt I'll play it further.

That it is.  It's still Atari's Pac-Man but with enough elements of the arcade original to make it a respectable port.  I have said this more than once:  had Atari released something like this back then, people would have been more accepting of it.

🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...

There's even intermission scenes! It's more than enough for the average person to look back at the orignal 2600 version and ask, "Did they even try?"

Very true.  The intermissions being included speaks volumes about this version.  🙂

The screen rolls on the intermission on my UAV modded 7800. It's fine in emulation. I'll have to drag out a 2600 to see if I have the issue there.

Honestly, all Atari needed to do was choose the right color scheme and it would have been that much better.  The idea that they messed up their exclusive home version of the hottest video game property out there speaks volumes about their leadership at the time.
