TrekMD got a reaction from MistaMaddog in The Atari 5200 gives the Intellivision and the ColecoVision a run for their money.
The 5200 has a good game library. In fact, it has some of the best good-to-bad ratio for games. Never mind that 8-bit games can be converted to it. Had Atari released the self-centering controllers, I believe things could have been different, as that was the weak point for the system. Not that the ColecoVision controllers were all that good. The Inty controller is not bad but does take getting used to it. Also, the planned smaller 5200 (5100?) would have been nice.

Well, I'd say they didn't want to spend the money to make better versions. That's what happened with DK on the 2600. Garry Kitchen asked for 8K ROM but they told him he was limited to 4K due to cost. With 4K he would have added the two other screens to the game. He's said this at interviews and retro events. Can you imagine if the 2600 version had had all four screens while the ColecoVision and other more advance systems only had three?

You know, when I first saw the Atari releases of DK and DK Jr, I thought that that is exactly what they had done. New and improved versions of both games. But, nope. It was the same thing Coleco had released.

I've got two as well, but the other is not in as good a cosmetic condition as it has at least one broken boss post on the shell and the vector lines are a mess. I suspect one of the ICs it at fault for that since It has been recapped...etc...with no change. So, in my case, my spare is a parts spare.
As for fair price I honestly don't know @- Ω - because I didn't technically have to pay for either of the two I own. The parts unit was given to me since it didn't work, and my actual working one was a gift from local collectors and friends to me for the 10th anniversary of my OVGE event I was hosting in the past here locally.
I thought working Vectrex only consoles were in the about $300 - $400 range these days with spare controllers easily hitting $100 ? The games will vary like with any console however.
