If you have an ancient TV with a horizontal hold, you should be able to adjust it to play PAL games. My parents still had a TV like this when I started collecting in the 90s. I found a PAL game and brought it over there to test it out (I read about it on Usenet) and it worked.

    Hi, everybody!

I've had a podcast for a while now, but am FINALLY posting something here. Atari Bytes is a weekly show reviewing 2600 games (and occasionally 7800 games). Really, though, the show is only partly a straight-up review show. The other big part of the show is answering burning questions like: What was Yar seeking revenge against? Why did they send Mario the plumber to take down an ape? What made that dude go Bezerk? If I don't know the answers, I make 'em up with my own story.

Please do check it out and let me know what you think!

http://ataribytes.libsyn.com/Show notes and episodes are here. You can also get the show just about everywhere podcasts are: Stitcher, iTunes (please leave a review!), Google Play, iHeart Radio, TuneIn, etc.

I've hosted an Atari podcast for over a year and am ashamed it took until now to show up at Atari.io. This looks like a great resources for info and history.

I dunno..if anything, maybe for resale value, but since I don't think I ever did anything like that (buy something I normally would keep for myself but just hoard it to sell for a profit), I really don't know. It's not so much that it's *adult* material, as...let's face it...Atari 2600 pornography is about as erotic as a dead Armitron watch...but some of it is disturbing. Yeah, just the fact that Custer's Revenge was even considered for release bothers me. No matter the intent: I don't care if those in charge were pro-woman and not a racist bone in their bodies and honestly just thought it'd be a laugh, it's just...not right. You don't go there. (Then again, this was during the age when game developers snorted coke in the office as some people drink coffee.)

I guess when I look at it there are a few reasons none of the Mystique games are in my collection:
    - They're not easy to find and, ergo, expensive;
    - They just plain suck...really, they're low-quality ripoffs of much better games, for the most part;
    - Just not a high priority for me; right now my priority in collecting is upgrading my loosies to CIB versions.

Okay, I'll put it to you this way: I won't put anybody down for wanting to collect this stuff. (And I consider myself a Christian, too.)  It's just not my bag, baby. Hey, if I buy a lot from eBay or something and there's a Mystique game or two, fine. (Although if it's Custer's Revenge, I'd probably....be very uneasy about keeping it around.) I'm just not going to actively seek that stuff out.

Going the arcade route...we covered three adult games on Pie Factory Podcast, mainly because nobody else would. They were all basically the "complete a puzzle to expose a NSFW picture" type, pretty much just nudity, but one of them -- Miss World Nude '96 -- was so disturbing in its implementation that I didn't want to play video games for several days...

Welcome, always nice to see younger people getting into the old stuff. I was in Erie once a long time ago, I think they may have had a classic game shop there at that time. Of course, this was before you were born, and now I feel ancient.

    Hey,
I'm _aterw but if that's too silly you can just call me Andrew. I'm a kid out of Union City, Pennsylvania - a Junior in High School anyways - and I've been doing a whole lot of stuff for my life.

To start off, well, I'll start with the whole Atari bit. I got introduced to what Atari even was from one of my best friends (I think he goes by BurritoBeans online?) a couple years back when I had went over to his place and he had a 2600 with some games and controllers that he said he ordered off of eBay or something. After an afternoon of Pitfall, Warlords, Combat, and Tennis I ended up really liking the things and bought a 4-switch of my own probably a week after from a local game shop and have just been buying cartridges as I can find them. (Erie seems dead for Atari stuff, I can't find any anywhere!) I don't own any Atari apart from that 2600, but hey, it's a fun system so I can't complain. With Beans, I ended up also getting into a lot of other game stuff and collect some old computers and systems that I've been able to find at his workplace and other game shops in the general area.

For things I enjoy, I really like to do a couple main things - games, collecting albums, playing guitar, and movies. For games other than the Atari and all that, I remember my first system was a Nintendo Gamecube when they were new and it was so cool to me for about two weeks then I got bored and went back to playing outside while my brothers were all over it - I don't think I really played much until we got out Xbox 360 MW2 Elite, and even then I only played for a couple years before I got bored.

With the music stuff, records have always been a thing in my life as my dad kept all his stuff from high school/college so we have his old record player and albums. I always thought they were cool so I started buying records myself, and I have good memories of sitting around listening to bands like Genesis, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Toto, Dire Straits, Men At Work, and The B52s playing on the record player. This stuff was also why I got into playing music - I play Contralto Clarinet, Paperclip Contrabass Clarinet, and Bassoon for the school band while also playing drums both on my own time and for a little band which friends and I put together a few years back. I love to play, but we don't play many shows so apart from a couple a year it's just the concert band stuff for school and orchestra for the school musical if they have a part for any of my instruments.

Finally with moves, well I've been watching the things forever - again with dads old stuff we had the DVD player and Laserdisc player which got used a lot on weekends, and I've been buying the things since I was about 12. I haven't got that big of a collection of movies anymore as I sold off a lot of what I had when I was getting my car but  I kept what I like and some odds and ends which I received from people and I still enjoy them to this day.

I do work which is the reason why I don't game all too much. For the past almost three years of my life I've been a farmhand working out in fields doing whatever I'm needed for in the summer and helping with animals in the winter. Compared to my friends I'm not doing too great job-wise as it's not the best pay in the world, but I get a free meal and some cash in hand at the end of the day so I'm not complaining.

So that's about it for me. I don't know a ton for games, but as I'm getting a bit more into them I'm hoping maybe I'll learn some stuff on here and be able to maybe contribute here and there.
    Thanks for reading.

This game was placed in the last Retro Junk box by Rowsdower70 (Thank you, sir!)

I finally took the time to really play it, and thought I'd give my impression here.

The game itself is labeled as #17 of 20, and signed by Joe Grisaffi (one of the designers and director of the film) and was made in 2013. I have not seen the film this game is based on, but it appears to be available for free on-line, and I'm going to check it out. I also don't know if only 20 copies of this cartridge were created. If so, that's a shame, as the game is really good. It came with a manual which is simple and well done.

The game has a really nice opening screen with great music. You start as a naked guy who has to find his armor. Once you find it, you can use your sword to hack up 4 victims that you have to search for. Each time you kill a victim, a policeman is spawned. They shoot you, and you are unable to kill them. After the 4th victim is killed, the goal becomes to find a character named "Marla" and drag her into a castle. Once inside, you must defeat a Boss Queen by shooting away at her shields and then the queen herself.

The game reminds me a lot of "Haunted House" -- lots of searching and exploring, while avoiding the bad guys as best you can. I think it's really a lot of fun. It makes you want to keep playing until you can defeat at least one boss. The graphics are great, and there's no flicker at all.

    RickR's final grade: A

Anyone else have more info on this game, or an opinion on the gameplay?

Nope. I want nothing to do with them.

Besides, from what I understand, Custards Revenge gave the clear appearance that the goal of the game is to help Custard get his revenge by raping a tied down Native American woman named Revenge (even if the makers tried to cover up the goal when protests arose). Seriously, that is sick. Even if games like this claimed everything is consensual, I personally think they're disgusting and I  don't want anything to do with the porn industry, especially since it tends to objectify women as sex objects and has been harmful to many lives and families.

So long story short, for these reasons among others, if I ever found a copy of one of these games mixed in a box of games I bought off of ebay, I'd have no problem forgoing the $ to trash it instead.

Just to clarify, I'm not out to force my beliefs on anybody, I'm not out to judge anybody who does collect them or would buy or sell them. I'm just answering the question for myself.

After working though the ROMs on the AFP (with others over at AA), I have gone thru and renamed the ROMs to the correct game titles, deleted games that do not work/can't be played, and added some homebrews - even added the hacks that have been made for the AFP!

As usual, download and unzip the file, put the ROMs in the first folder named "Game" on the SD card. It should load into your AFP with 67 pages (about 667 games in total).
Let me know what ya'll think ......any changes?
    Enjoy!

    Hi,

GRay Defender here.  I was born and raised here in San Bernardino, CA.  I played the early games in the arcade growing up and my first real gaming console was the Atari 2600.  From there I moved on to the Commodore 64, but before I let my mom sell off my 2600, I held onto the three games carts that I treasured the most at the time.  They were Adventure, Missile Command and Mountain King.  I fairly recently got back into video games and collecting.  Other than video games & consoles, I also love classic radios with cassette tape players, etc.  I also collect some vintage calculators, something about that phosphorus.

I guess last year I started my small youtube channel which goes by my moniker.

Looking forward to meeting you all over time,

    Glenn
