Obviously, if I won the lottery, I wouldn't stop at one. Ever since I saw my first episode of Silver Spoons, I've always wanted some cabinets in my house. Someday, someday...

Tempest is also a great choice!  Any vector game really, since those aren't quite the same in MAME.

Now that you mention it Dan, I would love to have a custom made Tempest 2000 cabinet made. Always thought I would get around to making one but I don't have any of the time, space or skill for such an adventure.

I just did a local search and found a Tempest machine in great condition for $1k. No room to put it anywhere and don't exactly have just a grand to burn frivolously... ugh.

Sticking with Atari arcade games that I've actually played in the wild, I would go with Star Wars too.

However since that was already called for, I will also give three others I enjoyed as a kid.
As some of you know, I didn't play a lot of arcades until the mid to late 80's.
By then, most of the classic games were either gone or hidden in a back corner where they mostly went unnoticed.
Also, several of these games may not have aged well, but at the time I thought they were the bee's knees.

#3) Pit-Fighter: At the time of it's release, the big digitized characters were a sight to behold and the simple controls made it easy to get into. And who didn't like being fork lifted over a pile of cash at the end?

#2) Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom: The movie was a big deal among kids and the game gave us a chance to enter the same world thanks to decent graphics, digitized voices, mine car rides and off course your trusty whip.

#1) Hard Drivin' (Sit down version of course!): Probably the first sit down game I played and I remember it costing more, probably 50 cents per play, but it was worth it. It split off into two tracks: A speed course and stunt course. But really, it was all about stunt track with the massive loop de loop. And don't forget to hit the cow to make it moo!

That sit down cabinet Star Wars is soooooo cool!  Made you totally feel like you were in an X-Wing!

I think my "lottery" splurge would be a Tron machine, in all it's black-light glory!  It's hard to find a good image that does it justice...but this cabinet in a dark room.....oh baby!  It's not Atari, I know.

I thought it was hilarious too! It's one of my favorite games for the TurboGrafx-16. What's funnier though is the Japanese version of the game, Kato-chan and Ken-chan for PC Engine. Kato-chan and Ken-chan was a popular comedy show in Japan at the time, and a lot of the humor was lost in translation especially because American audiences didn't know the show. Plus, a lot of the humor in Kato and Ken got censored out of J.J. and Jeff, they would urinate and throw crap on people and stuff, there was a lot of "toilet humor" in the Japanese game that didn't make it into the American game

How would they have really known that though? Video games were still a brand new thing. These things were all being done for the very first time and this was one of the first times an arcade port of this importance had been done. Space Invaders was the first port of an arcade game that brought a lot of success to the 2600, and it was different than the arcade version.

You would think Atari's own play testing and focus groups would have resulted in a "Pac-Man that plays just like the real thing" but that wouldn't happen until the 5200. Because of that I say Tod Frye had more of a hand in the collapse of the video game market than Howard Scott Warshaw ever did.

@RetroTech the TurboGrafx-16 and PC Engine are some of my all-time favorite systems! For many years I had a website called TurboGrafx-16.com that was a sister-site to this one. I made the mistake one year of forgetting to renew the domain and I lost my entire site. It was terrible.  -_-  Someone created a site mirror of it though, which is still available here: http://turbo.emuunlim.org/systems.htm

Even though I designed the TurboGrafx site almost 15 years ago I'd still like to get it back online. We'll see.. So glad to see so much enthusiasm on this site for the TurboGrafx & PC Engine though!

Though  never owned one back in the day a friend and I rented it from the local video store. With Keith Courage and I cannot recall what else but I DO definitely remember being impressed with the colors, speed and big sprites! Otherwise I did not know ANYBODY who actually owned one and though I thought it was awesome I did not have access to much back then so I think getting one for myself just seemed too scary because there just did not seem to be any support here in Canada. If only I knew than what I know now about how it would be great for collectors purposes as well as awesome games.
