BOOM! You are correct, sir.
The "coupled controller" part -- this was a game that came with a plastic coupler so you could use one stick to move and the other to fire.

You’re going to want to clean those if you haven’t used them yet! Not a hard process, and it’s worth it. Paddles are the number one reason to own a real 2600.
I personally recommend Kaboom!, Night Driver, Circus Atari, both Breakouts, and all the rest. Street Racer is surprisingly fun with friends. Canyon Bomber is one of my personal favorites, too!
I am planning on doing a Paddle Games edition of Atari Night soon. You’re welcome to use footage from that in a video if you wish, since I know you don’t have a capture device quite yet (whenever it comes out of course. I’m thinking sometime next week. Episode 2 will be 7800 games most likely).
Again, good luck on your Atari journey!

Outlaw?
That's right!
I have a suggestion for the game. Rather than spending valuable daily posts on telling people that they're correct, I think we should just use the "Thanks" reaction. That way when someone sees that on their guess, they'll know they're right and can go ahead and post their next haiku.

@HDN It is not Laser Gate.
Was it Laser Volley? I know it was Laser something. I know it is NOT Laser Blast. That’s the only other Laser game I can think of.
I know the game. It reminds me of a boss in Kirby Super Star.

Could it have been called Laser Gate?

Sorry @Justin for getting a wee, er, confrontational. Let's just agree to disagree. The commercial is pretty well known (from what I can tell) in the SNES community, but I can see how to some of you guys it could be difficult. Future haiku will be (slightly) less cryptic.

Atari 2600:
I am a square dot?
I have to kill a dragon?
Gladly only one.And a question for the crew: Do we use syllables or words in counting for Haiku? I did syllables, but maybe that isn't correct?
I would say Adventure, but there is more than one dragon in that game...
Interesting. I can’t think of any right now.

No, creating Haikus that are outside the scope of reasonable knowledge is not the point.
How’s this then?
I picked a Snes game
It’s Super Mario World
It’s not Pilotwings
Honestly, I don’t think that is “outside the scope of reasonable knowledge”. I feel like something like the game’s file size or the speedrun world record. Not something that was shown to the public on many occasions. Sure, it’s not easy to figure out, but if I revealed much other “reasonable” information it would just give it away. SMW is a very recognizable game after all.
The whole point of this exercise is to solve riddles. I don’t want to make it so everyone can guess on the first try.

Scoreboard is updated.
Since Super Mario World 2 is close, I'll say Super Mario World 1, but if that's the answer, you'll have to explain the summer autumn thing to me 😅
Once you beat the game’s Special world, all of the in-game graphics switch to a more fall-like theme.
The middle line, “a bit more of what you want”, was a line in the game’s famous “a bit more _____” commercial.
Anyways, that is correct.

This is great fun.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island?
Close, but no cigar.
Hint: the middle line gives it away if you know where to look!

I need to get that game sometime soon.
My turn.

Island to explore
A bit more of what you want
