  1. Let's start this out by saying I'm not big into comic books, like at all. I like comics as an art form, I just don't like your typical superhero-esque comic books. They have always seemed intimidating to me.

I've had my Atari stuff for close to a year now, and with that came three issues of Atari Force: Berzerk, Phoenix, and Star Raiders. I decided to finally read Berzerk yesterday.

I didn't finish it yet. I was very tired last night so I had trouble keeping my eyes opened (plus, it was pretty boring). Here are some of the highlights so far:

    • It has absolutely NOTHING to do with Berzerk. What a disappointment. They say "berserk" a few times, but that's not the same. Where's Evil Otto?
    • Apparently there was a massive civil war in Ireland in the nineties (plus there was time for Klax)
    • Social commentary. In a flashback, one of the Indian street kids said "The police will never believe us over a rich white". Said rich white looks an awful lot like Sir Dudley Dashley.
    • It takes place in 2005, the year I was born.
    • California is in space now?
    • Atari has graduated from a company that creates video games and computers to a... whatever you call this.

So yeah, not great. What do you think?

I've reviewed cartridge 01, Atari Collection 1, if anyone is interested. At the end of the video, I put short clips of all the games on the cart so you can see the emulation quality.

This game compilation seems really quite lazy to me. They didn't even bother to emulate paddles in a few games? How shoddy!

  3. Here's a video I made of Atari 7800 Joust for this Squad Challenge. I got this one to actually work, unlike the Q*Bert one I tried to make last time. That one had commentary by yours truly, and for some reason I couldn't get the audio to mix properly (though it's worked fine before so I don't know what was wrong with it that time). This Joust video doesn't. Just gameplay.

Another difference between this and my failed Q*Bert video is that this one is using emulation. Instead of using my 7800 and Joust cartridge, I am using my modded Wii U. That's why you can see the High Score Cartridge screen. I prefer using original hardware if I have it at my disposal, but this is okay I guess. At least it's nicer on your end; you'll have some nice composite-captured footage rather than the crummy RF my 7800 uses.

But, anyways, after I gave up on a particularly bad first game I got a new personal best for this challenge: 79,150.

I definitely have some room for improvement. I hate playing with the Wiimote so much. I might switch back to my 7800 soon, but I'm not sure if I'll have the time to.

  4. Next score, 51350.

I found this out. Try this glitch out at home!

On the first wave this glitch is easiest. Run left until your ostrich gets to full speed. Then, flap up to the next platform above you. Keep running until you get to the very edge of this small platform and flap just one time to get up to the next platform (which wraps around the screen). Your ostrich will continually bounce on the floor at the same speed you were running at. You’ll eventually wrap the screen and come out at the right side. Once you get to the slightly-higher-up platform (with the spawn pad on it), instead of bouncing off its wall like normal you’ll clip through the floor! It works every time.
