  2. 🥳 HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the legendary @RickR!

  3. I don’t care what anyone thinks of me but as far as I am concerned now is an appropriate time to put up Christmas decorations.

  4. #SeaUsRise One more to go! Let's do it, Robbie Ray!

While working for Amazon, I traveled to Toronto several times. The office was located in a building next to the Sky Dome (I think it's called Rogers something now). Every time I looked down on the Sky Dome from the office, my insides would just tear me up.

Both the Seattle Mariners and the Toronto Blue Jays entered the league in 1977, but the histories written by the two franchises could not be more different. One franchise enjoys a lauded history and the other franchise's history is characterized by futility and mediocrity. While one francise was winning not one but two World Series titles, the other franchise was celebrating the finishing of a season with .500 or better wins record for the first time and later reaching the playoffs for the first time. In the same number of years, the two teams took opposite trajectories. Each visit to the Toronto office was a stinging reminder of the futility of the team and franchise that I rooted for.

But winning this wildcard matchup will do much to heal and comfort the pain that I've carried for so long. It would be so poetic for Robbie Ray, who pitched for the Blue Jays last year and won the Cy Young, to close out this series tomorrow.

  6. Last Saturday, I went to PAX West with my son. I wasn't planning to go this year, but when I found out that there was a panel featuring Ken and Roberta Williams, I had to go. The panel was titled Adventure Games: Heroes and Legends. The Williams were joined by Jane Jensen, Al Lowe, Ron Gilbert, and Dave Gilbert. I took this photo before the panel started. They all masked up once they started speaking. The lady on the far left is the local gamer who organized the panel.

To be honest, I've never played a King's Quest game. However, I remember seeing it on my friend's PC Jr. back in the day. I have played the first Gabriel Knight and first Leisure Suit Larry games. Besides those, I have not (yet) played any of the other games made by these legends of adventure gaming.

It was a fanboy thrill to see these folks. I got in line about 90 minutes before the panel started in order to ensure myself a good seat. It was a good thing I did that because the place was packed.

These gaming industry legends and their works are an inseparable part of my childhood, and I cherish them for that alone. I wish I could have gotten a photo with them, but oh well. This will have to do (for now).

  7. It finally feels like summer in Seattle -- sunny and mid 70s yesterday and 80 today. What better way to kick off summer the American 🇺🇸 way than firing up the grill? I hosted a burger party for about a doze teens and their leaders from my church on Friday. It's always fun to see young people have a good time, but it can tire you out 🙂

A funny side note, my grilling set off the smoke alarm in the house behind us 😂 They had the door to their backyard open, and closed it once they figured out what was going on. Houses are built so close to one another.

Burgers were definitely good. I just came back from my doctor visit though, and it looks like it'll be a long while before burgers are back on the menu 😂

Portland is always 10+ deg hotter than Seattle. Most people live in the PNW for the two, two and half months of summer but I live for the other ten months of rain and clouds 😂 ☁️ 🌧️

  10. Merry Christmas, all!

I'm kinda ending 2021 the same way I started it -- covid infection. Back in January, my entire family got it, and this was before vaccination. This time, my second son got it again (test confirmed two days ago). The rest of us will get tested next week. I had a mild sore throat and headache yesterday and felt like I was coming down with a cold but it was gone when I woke up today.

First half of 2021 was a very challenging time and gave me a different perspective on life, family, and friends. Looking forward to 2022 and making memories with all of you in the I/O.

  11. Me, when my wife goes to pick me up some Guinness but instead returns with this assortment. 😮😜🧐🍺🤟

  12. 👉 @GRay Defender has a wonderful review highly recommending Nukey Shay's 8K Pac-Man. He sums up my thoughts perfectly: Atari's version of 2600 Pac-Man was pathetic, but I still played it relentlessly and appreciate it today for what it is. If you want to play 2600 Pac-Man, swap it out for Nukey Shay's 8K Pac-Man hack and you won't be disappointed:

  13. Been playing the new Centipede: Recharged on the Atari VCS for the past few hours. It's actually a cool modern interpretation on the classic. It has an endless arcade mode, 30 unlockable challenges, achievements, and local Co-op. Also, the music is stunning.

It's available on all major console platforms - Xbox, PS4/5, Switch, Steam (PC) - via digital tomorrow.  Based on the VCS version, I'd say it's well worth the $9.99 if you have any of those platforms and are a fan of the original.

PSN account is free and needed if you want to buy stuff from the store. PS Plus is what you need for online gaming, and that's a paid subscription.

GTA is a highly regarded series. I haven't played any of the GTA games.

I have the same PS3 Slim 160GB. I don't game too much on it so storage hasn't been an issue. I believe you can attach an external drive to it, so expanding storage is simple enough if the need arises.

The PS3 library has a lot of games collections. Those can be fun to collect and play. This wiki lists all the games remastered for the PS3 and game collections. I believe they're mostly remastered PS2 games. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_remasters_for_PlayStation_consoles

And don't forget to pick up the Uncharted series!

Edit: One other thing... in case you didn't realize.. the OEM controller is Bluetooth. You only need to use the USB cable to pair it with the console or to charge the controller using the console (console has to be powered on for it to charge the controller -- it's stupid but that's the way it is).

  16. 🔥 I've lost 70 lbs since the middle of May!

  17. Geek in the kitchen! Creamy gochujang chicken pot pie? I love chicken pot pie and Marion's Kitchen recipes. When I watched the video, the pot pie filling looked good enough to eat on its own without the extra steps of making it into a pie. It's a simple recipe and with simple ingredients that I had all on hand. This'll be served on top of rice in about ten minutes.

  18. How about a twist plot for a new version of the Twilight Zone classic "Time Enough At Last": A nerd survives a nuclear blast by living in his parents' basement. As the sole survivor, he finally is able to find and collect ALL of the retro games and systems. As he finally sits down to start playing, the power finally cuts out!

On the bright side, he can get some solar panels or a generator.

  20. 🍻 Wishing a Happy Birthday to BTB!

  21. Happy Month of Metroid, everyone! Today was my first day at school and tonight I finished the first blog for the month! You'll see it at Noon on Friday the third. Have a great day and ONLY 37 DAYS UNTIL METROID DREAD!!!!

  22. I’ve been absent for a week or so because I was on a fishing trip on the Chippewa Flowage! And guess what? I didn’t have a single bite! It was still fun though.

  23. Bought my first ever CIB copy of an NES game.

It's nothing spectacular, not a particularly big name title, but it was reasonably priced and I thought "What the heck?"

Anybody got any suggestions how best to display an NES game box?

I'll share pics when it arrives in the mail.
