I did some research. That's an early example of a kart racing game loosely based on the album of the same name.

George's game was called "Here Comes the Fun".  But there was legal trouble -- supposedly he stole it from Eric Clapton.

There was a prototype leaked a couple years ago for "Pete Best Western", a hotel management simulator on the Magnavox Odyssey 2. It even used The Voice to make snarky remarks about being kicked out of the band before they got big.

  3. Here's a pretty wild USPS Priority Mail shipment tracking.  It is supposed to go from Portland to Cleveland.  Looks like it is taking the scenic route.

That's utterly insane. I haven't had the best luck with mail getting to Portland promptly. I've never tried mailing out of Portland though 🙃

This is a really weird one for sure.  I've sent out a ton of packages over the years, and this is the only time this has happened.

  4. Hey @HDN, the record player is out.  I know you're a McCartney fan, and here's the one actual vinyl record of his that we have.

Funny that you mention this now, as I just turned on a McCartney song for the first time in a while.

I do miss my record player; I've had to put it away for a while to make room for all the Christmas decorating. Your's seems to be of a much-higher quality!

There are a few good songs on that album, "Coming Up" is one, but its generally regarded as one of his weaker albums. I don't think I've listened to that album in its entirety. Then again, they said that McCartney 1 wasn't great, and I rather enjoyed that one. That one celebrated its fiftieth anniversary this year. So, you do you. Don't assume that something is going to be bad because of its reputation. For instance, 2600 Pac-Man. I love that game! Who knows, you might like McCartney II after all (or maybe not).

I think I'll have to give that one a listen at some point. Perhaps I'll enjoy it.

And also, I see "2600 Space Invaders: The Album"! I believe that one's "Don't Look Back"? I don't listen to Boston.

    2. RickR

      RickR

This reminds me that I have "The Amazing Adventures of Pac-Man" on vinyl on display in my office.  Time to fire that one up.

Honestly, I don't think I've listened to McCartney 2 all the way through.  Not my cup of tea.

Our record player has a USB connector, so you could theoretically record digital copies of records.  I have never tried that though.

Now THESE ones I think are awesome:

O2 is in a box.  I'm trying to decide what will go on the shelves.
For sure:  7800, TG16, Nintendo 64, Atari VCS
      Also:  Replace Intv with Intv2

Once I get that done, I'll evaluate what space remains.

      Strong candidates:  O2, Colecovision, C64

    4. Atari 5200 Guy

      Atari 5200 Guy

I'm going to pick Colecovision.  I miss the one I had and I should have never sold it.  But...I had to see what the 5200's competition had to offer.  I didn't really care for the controllers.  Mine seemed a bit mushy.

Thanks for the kind words.  I'm trying to find a way to have some kind of outlet.  My STe is out for the moment.  I had a hard time deciding what machine to setup for a while.  The less cords right now the better so the STe won.

  7. I am still trying to finish NES "Legend of Zelda", and I've made it to this second dungeon boss.   That's all I can do for today though.

Oh good!  Thanks for that info.

I'm trying to do this the old fashioned way...with a map and no hints.  I remember a lot of stuff from back in the day, but it's been fun finding where everything is.  My only conceit is using an emulator that allows me to save wherever I want so I can stop when something in real life comes up.

Harry:  Please do send me those files.  I would love those for my shelf.

More importantly, I need some help.  I have no idea what I'm doing.  My first question:  what software do you use at school to create the model files?

One issue I've had so far is this:  I printed the bottom half of a Vectrex cart shell as shown above, and it came out perfect.  I think I may need to bump up the amount of filament used, but otherwise, very good for a first try.  But then, the top of the shell didn't work at all.  Why?  Because the Thingiverse file had the model upside down (flat side up).  I thought my printer software would automatically flip it, but it didn't.  And I tried to figure out how to flip it myself, but no go.

Of course, no obligation.  Maybe others here have some knowledge to share too.  I'm having fun learning something new.

      THANKS!

      HDN

I'm new to it myself too, so maybe another member can help you with your Vectrex cart issue.

In school, we've been using this site called tinkercad. It's kind of a beginner's 3D modeling tool aimed for teaching it in schools, so there are others that are much more robust. But if you're first starting out, I highly recommend it. It's user friendly, easy to work with, all online, and most importantly free (to my knowledge). Might be worth a try-out.

PM me an email address you'd like me to use and I'll share those 3D print files with you.

      I will try TinkerCAD.  Thanks!

  9. I FINALLY finished Phoenix Wright: Justice For All.  Phew!  That was a long game.

  11. I got a pretty neat birthday gift from one of my kids.  A new Timex Pac Man watch.

I need to adjust the watch band to fit my noodle arm.  And maybe read the manual to learn if it has any special features.

The only special feature is that it plays the Pac Man theme as the alarm.  No game built in.  Still, it looks sharp, and it's special because son #2 got it for me.

I had no idea this existed.

    3. RickR

      RickR

It fits nicely.  The Pac-Man theme can be played by pushing the upper right button.  It's best described as "irritating".  I can use that to annoy others.  A+

I see the ads all of the time. I'm surprised you can't play a simple version of the game on there.

      Regardless, very cool!!

Here's the fascinating part.  He had exactly ONE game.  That's it.  Never bought any others.  Mario Bros/Duck Hunt.  My friend kept it all these years, shared it with his kids, and only had one game.  Granted, it is a great game.  I am not poking fun or anything like that, I just find it to be so interesting.

I think because of that, the NES is in pristine condition.  It does not need the pin comb cleaned or replaced (the carts go in and come out easily), like-new controllers, etc.  I'm just going to wipe everything down to get the dust off and make this my main NES rig (I've been using a retron 3).

Just one part was missing, and that was the power adapter.  I had an extra, so no problem there.  The ultimate dad-move -- keep a box of miscellaneous power adapters in the garage for an occasion like this.

  13. I got a PS3!

PSN account is free and needed if you want to buy stuff from the store. PS Plus is what you need for online gaming, and that's a paid subscription.

GTA is a highly regarded series. I haven't played any of the GTA games.

    3. RickR

      RickR

I initially thought GTA 4 would be too violent for my taste...but the story kind of sucks you in.  It feels like our hero is "reluctantly" violent.  That gives it depth that I wasn't expecting.

    4. Atari 5200 Guy

      Atari 5200 Guy

GTA IV is actually more "tamed" than 3 was.  I haven't beat it but what I have played of it I enjoyed.  If you like GTA then definitely keep an eye out for any Saint's Row games.  3, 4, and Gat out of Hell are the better ones in the series.  And I would recommend GTA 5 if you liked 4.

Of course, if you like driving games, there's some sort of law that says you can't have a PlayStation without picking up Gran Turismo.  I had GT5 and was blown away!  I have ModNation Racers.  It's kind of along the lines of Mario Kart except you can build your own race tracks.  You use to be able to share your creations online but I think Sony shut those servers down.  I had a blast with that one as well.

I tried a demo to Uncharted once.  It was fun but I never had a PS3 long enough to get those. I wanted to try The Last of Us because it looked like it would be good but I missed it.  Yep...the PS3 when I had one was a great console.  I only went with XBOX 360 because when I tried to get another PS3 (while they were still in production) no one had one locally.  All I could find was a 360.

  14. I gotta tell you, I'm quite proud of these Christmas cards I made for my nieces.

Yeah, inkjets clog, drain your bank account with expensive ink, almost the same price/weight as gold... a huge rip-off (IMHO).  If you don't use them all the time the ink can dry in the lines and ruin the printer.  I went though quite literally a dozen inkjet printers before I got smart and bought a laser printer.  I've had the same printer now for four or five years and it's still going strong.

    4. RickR

      RickR

I agree with you, but this printer we have has been rock solid.  I just printed photographs on photographic paper earlier this week with no issues.  It's just this print that went bad, and like I said, I'm not too worried.

My wife prints A LOT for her work, so this thing stays busy.  Probably just a slightly clogged head or bad blue cartridge.

What would be cool is if O'Reilly actually stocked the replicas so you could complete your order. I remember this going around like 5 years ago and thinking you could actually order a replica and being disappointed when you couldn't. I'm sure they'd sell plenty.
