RickR reacted to Yo-Yo in Coleco Chameleon (formerly Retro VGS)
I've never really said this publicly before, for the sake of avoiding unnecessary flattery, but No Swear Gamer is someone I've listened to and held in very high regard for many years. I was really happy to see him take a leading role in this community. I don't know him personally but feel like I know him through his podcasts and probably listen to him as much as anyone else. Phil has always struck me as a very humble, very genuine person. He gives opinions based on fact not hype (in my opinion this is what John Lester / Gamester81 does) and Phil has been very fair in his approach I think. To see him share some of his own trepidations about the Retro VGS make me feel a little bit more at ease with mine. I don't want to unfairly hate on something or be overly critical, yet that's how I felt about myself. Really until just now. To see Phil No Swear Gamer say "This is getting ugly" makes me feel like I'm not alone in thinking the same. And I think that's an ominous sign for Retro VGS. Just my 2c.

There are many spectacular paddle games to try.  And it's such a unique control that doesn't emulate well, it is totally worth playing them on real hardware.  Good luck with your repairs, and I'm here if you need any tips.

I'm making tomorrow (Friday) Atari day because I certainly run into more people at work than I will on Saturday.

I have two broken "Touch Me" handhelds on the way.  Keeping my fingers crossed that they can be fixed.  If so, they will be for sale for a nice fair price if anyone is interested.

Here's the other two in the lot I got.  Both are working now.  Just needed some TLC.  Mostly it was the power switches that went bad. Coleco Football and Milton Bradley Comp IV.

And here's a shot of the whole handheld collection I've been building over many years.  These things are a lot of fun, and don't take up much space.

I need to pick some of those up. Nice collection!

When I was a kid, my father bought a new recliner. (I'm assuming it was new.) A couple of days later, he found a Mattel Basketball wedged in the cushion. That was a good day.

LOOK what I found!  I got this in a bundle of broken handheld games.  It just needed some serious cleaning, and a new battery connector soldered in.  Now it works perfectly and looks great.

What an uncomfortable name they chose though.  "Touch Me".  Things were quite a bit different in the 70's I guess.  I suppose you'd put on your polyester leisure suit, head on down to the Regal Beagle, and ask attractive people if they'd like to play "Touch Me".  Then whip this thing out of your breast pocket, and everyone gets a good laugh.  Yes, that's exactly how it was in the 70's I'm sure.

They re-made the Mattel games a few years back, and I must say, they were excellent.  They added a volume slider, which was a huge improvement.  Still, I like my originals much better.

I never knew this existed until it came up on the 2600 GBG podcast. I still haven't played any of the games yet, but those will be ther first ones I check out, if/when I get a Harmony cart.

The first one on the list was played in response to a forum Labor Day weekend challenge over on AA. The second was played in the hopes that I would find something positive to write/say about it for the Atari Jaguar Game By Game Podcast (I did not). The last was because it is every bit as fun today as it was when I was six years old!
