    Atari 2600
    Controller: PLAYER'S CHOICE
    Difficulty Level: Default
Achieve high score to win challenge
Play on: Real Hardware / Dedicated Console / Emulation OK! ✔
Squad Challenge ends 11:59 pm PST March 31st, 2017

Objective: Play for the highest possible score using the difficulty settings defined in the challenge. Post a photo or video of your score in this thread. Scores must be achieved between March 15th through March 31st, 2017. Screen captures are not allowed as they are easily manipulated for falsified scores. Multiple submissions are permitted. The player with the highest score at the end of the 2-week competition is the victor!

Eligibility: Anyone can join in. All players are welcome!

Play Rules: Games may be played on real hardware or emulation, using any controller or keyboard, following rules and game settings as delineated in the Squad Challenge. Enhancements and hacked versions of this game are not allowed.

Difficulty Level: Default. The Difficulty switches and Game Select switches are not used in this game.

Scoring: A "realistic" odometer registers the miles you've covered in the game. Beneath the odometer is the day indicator, which keeps track of the number of days you've been on the Enduro circuit. When the race is over, the mileage on the odometer and the day on the indicator represent your rating results or score.

Fair Play: Players should play fairly, be honest, and have fun! Falsified scores will result in your immediate removal from the site. It goes without saying that no use of cheats, hacks, cartridge frying, enhancements, Photoshop, subterfuge, or any other unfair advantage is allowed. Everybody hates a cheater.

I sure hope to see you there.  I'll have a badge waiting for you.  All attendees will be receiving an "attendance package" this year with some goodies enclosed.  This year's Fest West will make last years look lame in comparison.

In addition to the sleeve Arenafoot suggested, I also purchased a wrist strap for 80 cents.  :

Cool!  I'll get the controllers going this weekend.  I have one ready to go already.  I'll PM you soon.

I've been using this 5200 to test controllers as I fix them, and it works really nicely.  Nice video quality.  It's just missing a little armor plating is all

Please let me know if interested in this trashed, yet functional beast.  Shipping will be high, since it's so large.  Also, I have some controllers I was planning on repairing and they will be for sale soon too.

Fixed link.  There's a link to an excerpt from Brian Bagnall's excellent book "On The Edge: The Spectacular Rise And Fall Of Commodore":

    http://www.ataricompendium.com/faq/bagnall_vcs_keyboard.pdf

Soon after PVI was formed, Jack Tramiel heard PVI approached Atari and filed a ("exploratory") lawsuit against them, claiming they stole trade secrets.  PVI were forced to disclose details of their VCS project.  Tramiel insisted that was his product, and pursued the case.  The Graduate was ultimately cancelled by James Morgan when he took over as the new Atari CEO in 1983.  An ongoing lawsuit against PVI by Commodore was likely the main motivating reason for its cancellation.  PVI eventually won, but it cost them several years and approximately $300,000.

There were 3 other companies that worked on VCS keyboard peripherals, only one of which was released:

RickR reacted to Atari 5200 Guy in Atari 7800 System Video Review
I am with most posters here; the 7800 is a very underrated system.  And I also believe that it was mishandled by Atari themselves.  While it had graphic abilities similar to arcade games from the early 1980's they should have tried to push the system to do more unique and original games.  Most of the games it got, while some of the best ports any Atari console ever seen up to that point, was already worn out and the public had moved on.

It's already been proven that the 7800 could have done a great adventure game so I would have liked to see something like Gradius on the system.  There are so many things that could have been done that wasn't.  I really believe that the 7800 could have out powered the NES in the graphics department because of the amount of sprites it could handle at one time.  That, alone, is something that the NES simply couldn't do.  The graphic power was there and, even with just the TIA chip providing the sounds, there are times when the two-channel sound limitation is not noticeable with proper programming.  Just listen to Ms. Pac-Man and Xevious on the 7800.  Those are using TIA and not the POKEY add-on.

The only thing I could think of that would have hurt the system would have to be those GOD-awful joystick controllers.  For some games the joysticks worked well but for extended or endurance gaming forget it.

    Again...just my opinion.

This game was placed in the last Retro Junk box by Rowsdower70 (Thank you, sir!)

I finally took the time to really play it, and thought I'd give my impression here.

The game itself is labeled as #17 of 20, and signed by Joe Grisaffi (one of the designers and director of the film) and was made in 2013. I have not seen the film this game is based on, but it appears to be available for free on-line, and I'm going to check it out. I also don't know if only 20 copies of this cartridge were created. If so, that's a shame, as the game is really good. It came with a manual which is simple and well done.

The game has a really nice opening screen with great music. You start as a naked guy who has to find his armor. Once you find it, you can use your sword to hack up 4 victims that you have to search for. Each time you kill a victim, a policeman is spawned. They shoot you, and you are unable to kill them. After the 4th victim is killed, the goal becomes to find a character named "Marla" and drag her into a castle. Once inside, you must defeat a Boss Queen by shooting away at her shields and then the queen herself.

The game reminds me a lot of "Haunted House" -- lots of searching and exploring, while avoiding the bad guys as best you can. I think it's really a lot of fun. It makes you want to keep playing until you can defeat at least one boss. The graphics are great, and there's no flicker at all.

    RickR's final grade: A

Anyone else have more info on this game, or an opinion on the gameplay?

There's also a really old and free PC game called "Bridge Builder" that is very statics/dynamics related. You have to build a bridge over various chasms that a train can travel over. It's really a lot of fun for people that like math.
