On another note, I remember my dad and I going back-and-forth trying to beat each other for a while and it was getting really heated. I ended up getting the flu and was really sick. He was trying to take advantage of that and he kept coming into my room wanting to play burger time. "Come on man... don't you want to build a nice greasy burger?" LOL. Thinking about burgers was the last thing on my mind but I can't blame him for trying to use it as some form of strategize. Good times man, good times.

Guys I'm super excited about this. This Game means a lot to me because it was one of the games at my father and I used to play together. We had some serious serious high score challenges back in the day against each other. I can still remember him digging through the bargain barrel and paying only a couple bucks for this. This was after the crash and before Nintendo, and quite frankly when I was a kid I didn't even know there was a crash, only that my dad was bringing home games for cheap. Really looking forward to playing this on my original hardware, with my original game, and hell I might even have the old man come by and play a few rounds.

Question for you Rick, how loud is the projector when its running? The one I'm using is older with a bulb so the fan is slightly loud but it also puts out a tremendous stoutness of heat. Obviously sound is an issue when filming and I try to get the best sound I can get but I'm wondering if a small LED projector is the way to go.Viewers can tell if it's emulation, and it's not good. So I appreciate real hardware in your and others' reviews.
I would guess some of the other youtube experts have some excellent knowledge on this topic. But I've always thought the easiest way to record old video game footage is to use an analog TV tuner card on a desktop PC (Hauppage brand). I've tried it, and it works pretty well, You do have to manually tune the channel for the 2600 though.

Yeah I'm probably gonna do a breakdown on how I film the show and how I capture the game footage and editing. I had to jump through quite a few hoops in order to get the older systems to capture to modern devices. We can wrap our heads around 1080p, 720p, 480, but the Jaguar is outputting at 230 or 240, I think something like that. This new Elgato capture device didn't know what to do with the signal. You have to order the composite cable from the company or you cant capture one frame of footage.BTB, you should share more of this kind of stuff. Pure gold, man.
Now I'm finding the older 2600 games suffer from really bad flicker and capturing that stuff is a challenge, but hey I pride myself on not doing any emulation on the show so you get what you get.

You never get to see what's on the other side of the camera but this is the set up here in the studio. I use a projector for all our analogue gaming, its set up with an 8 port switcher and almost every system is set up, with a few exceptions.
I used material from a wrecked pull down screen and framed it. It's a 4ft x 6ft screen keeping the 4:3 aspect ratio intact.
Below is where I have all the systems and some games, at least the ones I want to play - Atari, TG-16, PS2, NES...
The main attractions in the studio, and the ones that get the most play - 7800 and Jaguar.
And of course a peak into the top drawers... Some of my favorites.
The only problem I have is my light gun games do not work, but we'll cross that bridge when we film those episodes.

Nice joystick reviews btb!
I stick with my trusty Slik Stik for Pac Man.
That is the one Im always looking for when Im out and about. Slick Stick and whats the one with the silver top? Tac 2?

What is your Weapon of Choice?
We as Atari gamers have many options, here are mine...
I first picked up the Power Stick, this was an amazing experience due to the very light and responsive nature of this stick. I didn't feel like I put up a good score but the pay was amazing.
Next Wico Boss. Was not sure how this was going to go but I was surprised by the gameplay I was getting. Easy to control and no maze lane wandering, at first I needed to get accustomed to the Boss but very soon in I felt confident in the maze.
Moving on the the GripStick V61... Not too good in the maze. Excellent for Ballblazer - Pac Man 2600... Not so much. I did like the suction cups, thats a great feature but I was getting a ton of lane wandering and did not feel in control at all, and check out that score, I guess if I really practiced with this I could manage but after playing with the last two controllers I thought it was time to move on.
My personal favorite controller for Ms. Pac Man on the 7800 is the Wico Ball top controller. This to me is the tops when it comes to 3rd party controllers, its just built like a tank, very little hand cramping and you can really slam that controller around, but this not how old Pac moves in this one. The Ms. and this stick - great match up and you can really whip around the corners in the 7800 version, this one not so much.
On to the 7800 euro gamepad. Well I had a good round - for me at least and it controlled pretty good with the pad... However, my thumb got tired real quick, like almost right off the bat. Also I started with the thumb joystick in and as soon as I started took it out. This got me a good score but it took a toll on my thumb.
Note that when I first started the High Score Squad Challenge this month I though I would use the original joystick in a StickStand... the amount of stress it takes to make the old joysticks work is nuts. It was making my shoulder hurt and I can't imagine it without the StickStand, and it's suppose to help.
So I played a few rounds, it was time to try the Power Stick one more time.
What say you? What are you using for this round of Pac-Man on the 2600?

Yeah we can play a perfect version of Pac Man today, we can say all the things that are wrong with it, but remember this and Space Invaders cemented Atari in video game history. You could play Pac Man on the 2600 or KC Munchkin... All the big Arcade titles were on the 2600 first. Just sit back and enjoy the ride, and go get a t-shirt.
