  1. Another SUPERB entry (but then, did i expect anything less? :) )

Already chatted about mixed review scores from UK and USA Press HERE:

    http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/2114-xenophobe-ms-pac-man-review-atari-lynx-raze-february-1991/

    http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/2115-xenophobe-predator-review-amiga-computers-amiga-format/

And we also saw:ACE only scoring the ST version at 585/1000, but then the C64 version only pulled in 492/1000 :-(

Commodore User (C.U) hated the coin-op to start with, giving it a mere 4/10....C+VG calling coin-op distasteful...but they did score the Lynx version 79%

    Zzap64 did a dual review. C64 version scoring 68%, Amiga version 62%

Lynx version overal far better recieved than Home Micro ports it seems...looks like a bit of tweaking really paid off.

Nice to see the zoomed in aspect detailed, felt it worked fine on Xenophobe, but Lynx Double Dragon?Ohh lordy no, ruined the game for myself.

Yeah when we get to Rampage and DD we'll have to go over that :/

  2. UK magazines C+VG,Zero and The One claim Amiga version features Sprite Scaling..

If this is true i'd guess Amiga is using clever coding routines where as Lynx is using the hardware..

The characters seam to be staying the same size, it almost looks like the floor and crowd are moving but not the actual characters.

  3. If you have not been to this yet, you should consider it. Last year was the biggest year ever, with 2016 looking to be bigger. There is something for everybody. My booth is mostly 8 bit, but I have a little of everything got it. Last year I found a 800 for $30, 1200xl keyboard for free. My booth buddy does custom tshirts. Panels, free arcade play, it's really worth it.

    This is tempting!

  4. The grip stick joystick in your video seems pretty cool

Yeah its very cool, however Im trying to figure out what application its best for.  For example, I thought It might be really good for Xevious, its not.  Mrs Pac-Man, not bad, Pitfall 2 - nope...  But today I was playing it with BallBlazers and it was perfect.  The V61 Gripstick Joystick needs its own episode in order to break down what it is, what it does and what games its good for.  Im doing research on it... you know, playing lots of games with it, "research".

  5. I feel like 7800 Avenue is going to be a hit :thumb: It's going to be like Jag Bar with guests and games? Is it only 7800?

That is correct, a guest will come over and we will play 7800 games.  But because the system plays 2600 as well I want to dip into those games too.  The Jag Bar episode of Warlords was a tryout for 7800 Ave.  The difference between The Jag Bar and 7800 Ave format wise is I will not have the section where we meet a guest at the bar then play,  7800 Ave will be just a guest joining me to play and getting right into the game and discussing our thoughts at the end.  Plus the set will look amazing - lots of brick walls, arcade games and neon.

  6. "depending on who you ask, it was a horrible failure for the company"

As was brought up, this is my only problem with the article.

I don't believe you should you say "depending on who you ask" and only bring up one, unsupported point.

Depending on who you ask.... The Browns will win the Super Bowl, Tax Avoiders is a great game and beef tastes like chicken.

Too me, that was lazy and biased. How in the world does a system that lasted multiple years count as a horrible failure? Just because it didn't sell as well as the Game Boy?

BTW, I think the main reason the Lynx didn't sell more was due not to any lack of games, but the high price of the unit compared to the Game Boy. Even if Tetris, the biggest portable system seller of all time, was packed in with the Lynx, the Game Boy would've still outsold it.

So even though I had the Lynx very early on it felt like very long stretches of time before any games would come out, at least in my area.  I also got a Game Gear, so should I go to Target and find a huge selection of games - none of them were Lynx.  I would have to have someone take me to one of two places that carried Lynx games, Toys R Us (totally out of the way) or Electronics Boutique (even more out of the way).  This same pattern happened during the Jaguar.  I found my self getting more Game Gear games only because it was more accessible in my area.   For what it's worth.

  7. Fantastic video.

Loved your comment about going from NES to Lynx version.

You try going from C64 to Lynx versions,as was my case :)

Fantastic to hear your a fellow Rattan fan as well.

Ill have to check out the C64 version.  Too bad the Lynx never got a Karnov port, another one of my favorites, on my Tandy 1000 of course.

  8. All right sweethearts? what are you waiting for?breakfast in bed?another glorious day on Atari I.O forum...

A day on the forum is like a day on the farm...

Every Jag Bar video a banquet....

I love the Jag Bar, so i've created a thread to promote the AVP video on AVP Galaxy...

    http://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/index.php?topic=55124.msg2135042#new

    And somebody wake up Hicks!

Thanks for getting the word out, more people need to tune into the Jag Bar.

  9. It's little wonder Jaguar AVP still visually holds up well today...

A 24 bit colour intro sequence, character models digitized from models, rather than drawn by hand (ok, blocky, but no worse than Probes motion-captured sprites for PS1/Saturn Alien Trilogy), textures on walls formed by developers creating 'panels' which were then digitized and turned into bitmapped graphics for the game.

Sensible use of Jaguar hardware-Rebellion seemed well aware early on that the hardware was simply not powerful enough to be throwing around texture-mapped 3D polygons at anything like a playable frame rate, plus using the Blitter to 'draw' the panels, letting the GPU handle the calculations....game ran in over 32,000 colours compared to Doom running in 256....

Supposed to be around 128 meg of uncompressed visual data....

Would of loved to have seen how they further improved on this engine with Legions Of The Undead, which they promised would be significantly upgraded for the game

Its been a while since I played this one, I was pretty shocked at how good it looked.  This was a very special title that came only to the Jaguar and what a showpiece it was.

Can you imagine if all their titles were like this?
