  1. Announced via the Official VCS Twitter Account! Coming Friday!
  2. Release Date: September 29, 2023 Retail: $5.99 Developer(s): Blue Sunset Games Publisher: Blue Sunset Games Official Site Synopsis : Suit up, engage all of your defenses, pick a weapon and wait for aliens to come. As part of a Planetary Defense Force (PDF), you are tasked with protecting planets in this unique mix of twin-stick shooter, tower defense and city builder game. Move between the planet and defense sphere during the assault to manage both towers on top and economics back on the planet. Defend against many types of monsters and huge bosses. Planetary Defense Force is a beautiful visual experience with a lot of bullets, colors, explosions, lasers and mayhem. Become the ultimate Defender.
  3. Welcome to the official topic for Planetary Defense Force
  4. I had a Gemini when I was growing up so that wins on nostalgia. My preferred way to play 2600 games is the 7800. My preferred version of the 2600 is the Jr. I love the wedge aesthetic of the Jr. I also really like the Sears Tele-Games variants and the light sixer.
  5. It's also timed with the 22 anniversary of Enterprise this week!
  6. I think going back to the vinyl analogy - which Rosen used too - there are always younger folks that want to explore and collect what came before. It's probably a small market, but combined with we aging GenXers, may be enough to sustain premium reissues like the XP line in the way folks buy Deluxe edition reissues of classic albums.
  7. Thanks for the explanation. I've thought about upgrading to a 5x, but aside from the 2600, all of my consoles work fine through the 2x Pro. Good to know that the 5x can handle these issues!
  8. Here's my use case for the 2600+. On certain games, particularly GCC titles, I lose signal on my HD sets. This is on about 10 different 2600 and 7800 consoles on two 4K sets. All accessible processing on the TV is turned off. The Retron77 mostly worked for this but is incompatible with certain legacy carts, homebrew, the XP line and 7800 carts. While I would have preferred an FPGA solution for homebrew/SD cart compatibility, I appreciate the effort here. Sure, I can emulate my entire retro library on the modern VCS, but I like pulling out my boxes, looking at the art, the manual, and plugging in the cart. This is the same reason I prefer vinyl over streaming and MP3s.
  9. Dang these butterfingers! Thanks for the correction @Smell Dawg! That's what these challenges are all about! It was very cool ro see this come to the VCS first. I'm hoping that we get an XP edition. If you liked this, you'll definitely dig HERO!
  10. Congratulations @Smell Dawg, the winner of our Alien Abduction Squad Challenge! Smell Dawg saved the princess to take the top spot with an amazing score of 42,891! @D.joe played the HERO with a great second place finish at 22,553. @Mockduck rounded out the podium with an alien busting score of 14,813. I was probed and prodded with a score of 12,522. As the winner of this round @Smell Dawg will receive 3 entries in the upcoming giveaway and a set of Series 4 challenge button ! He will also get a bonus entry for posting his effort on YouTube. Everyone else will receive one entry! I'd like to encourage @Smell Dawgto post this high score on the Scoreboard so we can make sure this Challenge continues on! Congratulations to Smell Dawg on a fantastic win and to everyone else who jumped in! NOTE: Our next Recharged Squad Challenge is Centipede: Recharged! Live now!
  11. I have this on the 7800 and VCS. I hope that this is just the first of Bob's titles to make its way to the store. I know that many have IP/licensing issues, but maybe something like Crazy Brix could find its way to the platform with the Classic serving as a paddle controller.
  12. Check out our Series 4 Recharged Squad Challenge button set!

The top scorer in our monthly VCS challenges gets bragging rights and sweet DIY buttons!

This first set is going out to @Smell Dawg for Alien Abduction!

I still have all those Atari.io buttons.  They are awesome.

@RickR it was awesome to be able to do that. The prizes and giveaways are something I want to get back to.

      Fun stuff!  Thanks!!

  13. I didn't realize this was also on audio only. They play the video version on their YT channel. You may hear a few questions from yours truly in the earlier episodes. I think they got tired of hearing from me. LOL
  14. @CrossBow - Thanks for confirming it's ProSystem for the 7800 emulation. I caught up on that thread and see the Plaion rep (Ben from Plaion) fielding questions. On the plus side (haha), at least their engaging the community. I see where TailChao (Rikki & Vikki dev) recommended a better version that is compatible with his custom cart and the rep at least seemed receptive to bringing that back to the team.
  15. Very cool @TrekMD! I picked up Towers II as well. It definitely feels better than the original release. I'm still not sure it's my type of game though! What do you think of Songbird's new "Jaguar" logo?
  16. @Justin - Stargate is now Warner IP (through their 2009 acquisition of Midway). Those licenses are long since expired and Atari likely has no rights to publish it. My Atari dream is for them to get all of the Williams/Midway/Atari Games IP from Warner and put these properties under the Fuji - where they belong. I absolutely agree Surround is not an ideal pack-in. Maybe they have plans for Millipede and other titles? Wouldn't it be something to see the unreleased GCC version of Millipede as an XP cart?
  17. @nosweargamer - According to Thomas Jentzsch, the Stella team was contacted by Plaion mid '22 about the project. He also confirmed they are using Stella 6.7. Also, Stella is GPL and may be used for commercial applications. Stella does not support 7800 games. I'm not sure we know what 7800 emulator is being used (haven't seen that yet). Hopefully it's A7800 for best compatibility.
  18. Cymatically Muffed is out now on the VCS for $14.99. The dev will also launch a free game called Simple Light Cycles on 9.27. We also learned from @Davpa that the dev is a VCS fan and backer! Very cool! Check out Creator Space for a First Look video and grab 16 of your friends for melee fun.
  19. Here's a look at Cymatically Muffed playing on the VCS in single-player Campaign and Survival Modes. The single-player experience is fun but my guess is that this game really opens up in multiplayer with both co-op and battle mode. I would love to see a 16-player game going!
  20. Gameplay only of Days of Doom from Atari and developer Sneakybox.
  21. This is a bit of a departure from Atari's recent output. It's a turn-based tactical RPG, so not as pick-up and play or arcade-like as the Recharged games or even Mr. Run and Jump. But if you like this type of game (and I do) there is a lot of fun to be had and it's quite well done. I will add that $29 is a but much for a digital release, considering it's also physical for the same price.
  22. I meant to share this earlier in the week @TrekMD! It's definitely worth a watch. I've always been fascinated by the GCC story. They developed the majority of my childhood favorites. Excellent episode @fultonbot!
  23. Here's an early review of the Switch version. What do you think? Picking this one up?
  24. Another stealth drop on the Atari VCS! This time its The Gem Collector; a 2D puzzle platformer from Tree Fall Studios, the dev behind Tilting Tiles.
