  1. My copy of Gravitar arrived damaged. The spine of the box has a crease to the Fuji logo. Atari didn't have any spares so they refunded me $50 and let me keep the cart. Still sucks because it was a 10 cart set. These carts all look very nice. Quality control and developer credits are spotty at best. For the 2600 arcade ports, the arcade devs are credited as "creators" and the 2600 programmers are left out. I'm hoping that with AL onboard as the historian, these things won't be issues in the future.
  2. The Gen X Grown-up review definitely puts it in a better light. But again, I have a lot of ways to emulate retro game systems conveniently on my TV. @TrekMD - the SD slot was an addition, as was the "paddle" on the controller. I wonder if it supports any other controllers. I can't imagine playing NES and Genesis games with those things.
  3. Here's an early review of the Gamestation. A third of the games are licensed non-Atari titles from Piko Interactive. Obviously, hardcore Atari fans have a million ways to play these games and are not the target audience for this type of product. After the excellent Atari 50 ($29.99), I have no idea what the market is for this $99 device even to casual Atari fans.
  4. Thanks, Rick! They are fun to make but it's taking me forever to open all 10. LOL I can't take credit for the music. Stock old-timey. 😉
  5. The AtariXP reissue of Haunted House, pictured with the Butcher Biller art print. Link to "unboxing."
  6. A First Look at Dynablaster on the VCS. This includes gameplay only footage of the customization menu, tutorial, single-player and online tournament mode.
  7. One of the better online experiences on the VCS. It was easy to match up and play a tournament. Make sure to go to "Customize" and change your name; default is "GuestXXXX."
  8. I'll add that for a game that could only be properly enjoyed with the unique motion controls of the Amico, it plays surprisingly well with the VCS Modern Controller. 🤣
  9. I got a belly laugh from this last one!

  14. Playing some 2600 and 7800 homebrew on the modern VCS this weekend.

For all of the concern about Atari using the community to make money, the split is something like 80/20 to the devs and 90/10 if it's exclusive to the VCS.  It's apparently the most generous split in the industry for a digital store.

  15. I listened to this wrapping up at work this afternoon. It was a fun conversation! Loved that 7800 sprite demo too. I'm definitely checking it out!
  16. I'm willing to give Atari the benefit of the doubt. They have really been trying since Rosen took over from Chesnais in April 2021 and refocused the company on console games. Also, Atari have been really hands off with Moby Games since the acquisition. I think they will take a similar approach with AA. I also think this can only be a good thing in terms of modern game development on legacy Atari platforms.
  17. Atari just announced another XP cart. This time it's an Ltd run of Outlaw ($59) with new box and label art by Brazilian pop artist Butcher Billy. He also did their Atari X NFTs (which this is from) and Akka Arrh physical release box art. This may be where I get off the XP train. Outlaw is just so common boxed and while I like the art, I don't think I like it enough. I thought the first three XP releases were great and loved the idea of Atari releasing protos through the label. I bought the Atari50 commemorative set even though the games are common, because the set looked cool and were issued as a part of the 50th celebration. I bought the XP edition of Mr. Run & Jump because a standard edition wasn't announced at that time. (Berzerk and the standard MRJ are not XP releases) I wish Atari would go back to the original stated intent of the XP line and dig into the catalog for some true rarities and protos. What do you think?
  18. Wherever you are, I hope that you're enjoying a safe and happy Labor Day holiday!

Yeah, it was a really nice morning! The area is called Abalone Cove Park here in L.A. county. It's one of those places that is right in the "backyard" that we don't get to enough. A good way to spend a day off!

  19. Feel free to participate as a "ghost!" It just won't count towards the drawing.
  20. It's a hard one to capture. Actually, the first four Recharged games have this issue which Atari and its devs addressed beginning with Gravitar. The best way is video capture but your Top Five local scores will show on the Scoreboard. It's the honor system in terms of when your highest score was awarded.
