  2. "It is the nineties and there is time for KLAX..."

I'm celebrating beta firmware v1.1 REV2 with gameplay of the prototype of KLAX for the Atari 7800. This was one of the games that had not worked for me until the update.

Programmed by David Dentt, KLAX was one of several completed titles that were shelved by Atari late in the life of console. A port of the Atari Games' arcade game, the 7800 version does a fair job of bringing the puzzler home. It's too bad that we didn't get the full release as this is far superior to the 2600 game. If only it had some sweet pokey music to compliment the gameplay...

Is there time for KLAX in 2024?  You bet!

Since I got my iPad Pro (the larger one), I had been using it with the Logitech keyboard case. For a brief time, I tried using it with a mouse and the Nuphy Air75 keyboard. I returned the keyboard as it was too big for what I wanted. Recently, I didn’t like the feel of the trackpad on the Logitech keyboard. It felt a little worn down. I decided to look into a separate keyboard (mechanical keys, low profile, Bluetooth) and mouse setup again.

I researched a little and saw that the 65% keyboard size may just be what I was looking for. I saw mechanical keyboard models by Logitech and Keychron that looked intriguing. I ended up going with the Keychron K7 Pro. The other models I considered were the Keychron K7 and Logitech MX Mechanical Mini.

I am super happy with my choice. It’s very small and yet very comfortable to use. Typing on it feel good (I went with the hot swappable Gateron brown switches).

This looks like it could look nice with a VCS. Is it BT?

So cool they're doing this. I was able to do the first update in December, I had trouble finding the unknown device under Device Manager last time, but I found out that the 2600+ showed up as an Evercade since I updated it on the PC I am using. This new update, the same issue happened, only this time, I can't find it at all, no Evercade showing and no Unknown Device showing either? Anyone else having this issue??

For the second update it was just the dumper and firmware image, so I skipped that step altogether.

  7. Bringing Crystal Castles home to the 2600 was ambitious to say the least.  Some would argue that attempting a pseudo-3D, trackball controlled arcade game filled with bright castles and colorful characters to Atari's (by 1984) seven year old console was an effort in futility.  But when did that ever stop Atari?

Programmed by Peter Niday, this port does an admirable job with pseudo-3D castles, a variety of enemies, between level tunes and - most importantly - Bentley Bear! The translation to the 2600 is not all gems and honey. Control with the joystick - particularly a stiff CX-40 - can be a wrist wrecking chore. Still, worth checking out if only for Atari's furry mascot!

  8. Atari has announced the development of a limited series documentary about the 50 year history of the company/brand.

...today announced the company has partnered with Emmy-winning producers Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz of Alfred Street Industries to produce and direct a limited documentary series. The series, tentatively titled Game Changers: The Story of Atari, will present Atari’s definitive history and anticipated future.

Great show! I had to catch it after the live stream. And it was an honor just to be nominated. I got choked up a little...I had a speech ready and everything. 🤣

  10. I wanted to follow-up Seaquest with Atari's own underwater odyssey: Aquaventure!

This is a fun game and it amazes me that Atari didn't release it in 1983.  I love the colorful sprites - especially on a CRT.  The lose a little something in HD.  This is the XP Standard Edition cart that Atari released last year.  For those that don't know, an XP cart will not work on a Retron77 - so the 2600 plus is a great way to experience this and the other XP titles.

Preorders are handled exclusively by Amazon.co.uk --> https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0CRYXTL82/

The item listing shows the price of 99.99 pounds but when I added it to the basket, the price dropped to 89.90 pounds. Shipping is 19.70 pounds.

Also, it will be available on Amazon and Atari.com in North America. They just don't have it up yet apparently. I typically go through Atari but given the delays with my 2600+, I think that I'll go through Amazon so I get it at launch.

The cart ports would be pretty awesome for sure!  It does have the ability to run images from a USB memory stick though.  Just like the C64 and Amiga versions.

It is also missing a real keyboard, but that is solved by attaching a USB keyboard.  Not ideal, but it does work.  (And there is also a virtual keyboard).

The other real con with this is that you *must* use that controller it includes to get access to all the features (like virtual keyboard).  Although other USB controllers will work, the button mapping is hit and miss.

My hope is they move enough units to create a fully functioning MAXI version as they are doing with the C64. The ability to side-load is good enough for me at this price point. And the 400 is my favorite in terms of design. It's achingly 70s.
