    Hi, all,

Does anyone have access to palettes that simulate the Atari 8-bit graphics schemes on Photoshop CS3 Extended for Mac OS X? I have that for my iBook G4. Thanks.

It looks more like arcade Zaxxon than the original A2600 port of Zaxxon did. I like it. Thanks.

Hi guys, I host the Atari 2600 GBG podcast (why did I pick such a long title). Normally I try to solicit feedback for homebrew games in the forums, but I totally forgot in this instance (it's been a busy summer so far). Have you played Space Raid by Oscar Toledo Gutierrez? It's basically a port of Zaxxon that actually plays in mock 3D 3/4 view or whatever it is. You can find it here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/217250-space-raid-2600

    Also here: http://www.nanochess.org/space_raid.html

I'll be recording the episode about 7 hours after this is posted. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Let me start by saying I am not typically a fan of "covers" and yes I am aware that actually a large majority of hit songs / classics are in fact covers themselves but once they became a hit as the version we think of rarely do I like modernized covers as they are often either mangled beyond recognition OR the person doing the cover attempted not so much a tribute but tried too hard to "Make it their own" and more often then not this is NOT an improvement. Having said that, Mike Geier aka Puddles consistently does amazing versions that I have found a pleasure to listen to as well as being wonderful tributes to the originals imho.

First some info - this is taken from the Wikipedia to give you background on Mike Geier aka Puddles

Big Mike Geier (born March 12, 1964) is an Atlanta, Georgia based singer, entertainer and leader of the band Kingsized.

Puddles Pity Party is a persona created by Geier known for appearing in several viral videos on YouTube since 2013, most notably with Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox. Most of the songs he performs are covers of recent hits. Puddles Pity Party is noted for his distinctive whiteface clown costume, baritone singing voice, depressed persona, not speaking on stage or in interviews, and his unusual height of 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m).

Puddles Pity Party performed in Aqua Teen Hunger Force's 2010 tour. In 2011 he regularly appeared in vaudevillian cabaret at Teatro ZinZanni. In 2013, he opened for Eels during their U.S. and European tour. In October 2013, he recorded a cover of Lorde's "Royals" with Postmodern Jukebox on YouTube. As of July 2017 the video has received over 20 million hits. Puddles has collaborated with Bradlee on YouTube several times since. Since 2014 he has toured the world, with concerts in the United States, United Kingdom, Belgium and Australia.

Puddles performed on season 12 of America's Got Talent, making it past the audition with 4 yes votes.

His September 27, 2014 live performance of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", at the Regency Lodge Ballroom in San Francisco, was filmed by director Gary Yost and was later described by HuffPost as "A Strange Kind Of Beautiful". By July 2017 the video on YouTube had received over 3 million views.

OK THAT IS ALL FINE AND DANDY BUT all that matters is the quality of his covers and his amazing voice. Whether you love clowns or have a deadly fear of them Puddles is sure to impress and amaze. I will post some highlights below and let you judge for yourselves, if you do not care for a particular song or genre just select a different video but do yourselves a favor and definitely give some a listen    He does fantastic tributes by not screwing up the original songs and doing them justice with his beautiful voice while still managing the give it a "Puddles" twist. Here is a link to his official site http://www.puddlespityparty.com/

    Some personal favs -

I had been following him for some time before his appearance on America's got Talent so I knew he was going to surprise them.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tyr92K218M

Now for some more my style

He definitely covers some classics that I would be very wary of anyone covering but he pulls them off wonderfully.

LOVED THIS and I am a HUGE Bowie fan

Even an AMAZING Mash-up I would never of expected he pulls off !

    Same Mash-up Switched around lol
Pinball Wizard/Folsom Prison Blues Schmoosh Up - Switcharoo

This is so wonderful! The only thing better than Puddles doing a cover of Rainbow Connection ? A cover of Rainbow Connection while joined by Toby Huss aka John Bosworth from Halt and Catch Fire !

I will leave you with a link to his youtube channel videos so you can choose to sort by date or popular etc, peruse on your own time and pick some of your favorite tunes done by Puddles.

Let's take a walk down my memory lane going all the way back to the early to mid 80's, I'll share some of the spots I used to frequent as a youngster desperate to play arcade machines, just about any would do.

Located at roughly 33rd and E streets across from a gas station, this was the site of my "go to" arcade.   It's the one on the left side which is now some sort of Internet Café.  It has been host to many businesses since being an arcade.  This is where I first saw many arcade games including Williams Defender and Atari Missile Command.  It looks so much smaller to me now.  I remember for a short period of time I had an allowance of two bucks a day for lunch, which of course means I would starve myself to play in this arcade.

Just down the street from the local arcade, was a sandwich shop called "Butches Grinders".  It has since been torn down and made into a bus stop + parking.  They always had at least one arcade machine that I would try to play.

Located catty corner to the bus stop is P&J Liquor store.  At the time they kept one arcade machine in there.  I would try to sneak in over there after school as well or when my parents went shopping at Alpha Beta which was next door.  I have a rather specific memory of a few kids making fun of me while I was playing a game.  When I asked what they were laughing about, it was because I was wearing a polo shirt with it all buttoned up to the top.

A few years went by and there were still a few arcade machines to be found around various places in San Bernardino.  Located just above 40th street and Sierra Way this used to be a Roaring 20s Pizza place.  There was a mini-arcade located in the back where you order.  I cannot remember eating any pizza there however.

Located at 40th and H street, this used to be multiple businesses including a barber and a small Arcade.

And finally, at the Inland Center Mall in the heart of the City, there used to be a stairwell leading down to an arcade area for the kids to play in.  It has since been sealed up and turned into a children's play area.  It was still there well into my mid 20's but I rarely went down there.  These are by no means the only places with arcade machines in town, but they are the ones I remembered playing in.  I hope you enjoyed!!

So just a little background regarding this video.
My kids and I watched every Nintendo direct on our WiiU, it became an event in our house and we were all very excited each time they came on.
I kept the kids on Nintendo systems for al long as I could because I wanted them to be kids, I wanted them to be lost in innocence and enjoy the kid and family friendly nature on Nintendo. Iwata, Reggie and Miamoto became stars to the kids and they realized that the long linage of games and characters they love these guys had a hand in all of it.
When Iwata died we all cried over here, it was very sad to see his passing.
The man that brought so much to our family fun time passed and we all sat there and cried.  Because of these Nintendo directs my daughter is studying Japanese to become a translator for Nintendo, thats what she want to do.

This is such a touching tribute to his work

I just wanted to share this one.  The ROM file is available for free here:

    http://www.mr-atari.com/defyocas/

The game is great -- very similar to "Smithereens" on the Odyssey 2 (but no voice ).  I tried the game and it's a lot of fun with 2 players.

I decided to purchase a real copy of the game.  Why?  Because it's really affordable and that deserves to be supported.  How many times have we seen a homebrew that's over $50?  This one is only about $18 shipped from the Netherlands!  It only comes with a ROM board and stickers -- you have to provide a cart shell.  I think that's really cool if that's all it takes to keep it so affordable.

Credit where credit is due -- I discovered all this from this John Hancock video:

I finished watching it.  I can't believe it was just four episodes!  Still, the animation is very well done and the story is interesting.  This is not an animation kids should be watching, though.  It has adult language and some pretty gory stuff as well.  I wonder when the second season is going to be released.

This would have been one more 5200 game that used all four ports on the original SuperSystem units.  Making a grand total of... three.  Four, if RealSports Basketball had been released, too.

If it's truly an identical port of the Atari 8-bit version, then you are correct NSG.  It's a little better than the 2600 version, there's a lot less flicker.  But not very exciting.  It has a multi-player version that's really good.  And when multiple asteroids overlap, the overlap area is black, which looks cool.  On the minus side, it's not very colorful.

I hate to say it, but this seems to be another 5200 game like breakout that doesn't do enough graphically to really make you want to drop the 2600 version of the game to play it.
