- Ω - Posted April 5, 2022 Report Posted April 5, 2022 The official trailer looks good, but how can the Enterprise just hang there (20 second mark) without any forward motion? I'd buy it in post TNG episodes, but not pre-TOS. Quote <<< My YouTube Page >>>

Sabertooth Posted April 5, 2022 Report Posted April 5, 2022 I quite like this preview. I was always a TOS fan first so this is right up my alley. TrekMD 1 Quote

From the excerpt below the radar technician did say it was holding there, but it was moving, albeit slowly. Later when Captain Christopher got closer he did say it was pulling away fast. Sabertooth Posted May 1, 2022 Report Posted May 1, 2022 I watched this yesterday. I'm definitely feeling positive about this series and I'm looking forward to an episodic format. TrekMD and RickR 2 Quote

DegasElite Posted May 3, 2022 Report Posted May 3, 2022 My only peeve is the look of the Enterprise from SNW and the look from TOS. In many ways, the SNW Enterprise looks more advanced. I know it is because the SNW will get a refit to the TOS version that Kirk will captain. That is a good explanation for the look. But, it still looks more advanced. Granted this is the 2020s, and Star Trek: TOS was in the 1960s. Also, I like the look of the Enterprise. But, I still see a conflict. Maybe, I am barking up the wrong tree. I don't know. I would like to see the new SNW sometime, though. Sabertooth and RickR 2 Quote
RickR Posted May 3, 2022 Report Posted May 3, 2022 I'm just happy the Enterprise doesn't have the "turkey drumstick" look of the Kelvin-timeline Enterprise. :) My goal with this show is to watch no spoilers, no teasers and just go in blind and hopefully enjoy it. We know from Discovery Season 2 that Anson Mount as Captain Pike is excellent. I'm really excited to watch. Sabertooth and DegasElite 2 Quote
TrekMD Posted May 3, 2022 Report Posted May 3, 2022 I don't mind the update to the design, though I would have preferred the ship had straight nacelle struts instead of the slanted ones. For today's TV, they design needed an update. This, I think, would have been a better one but I'm not in charge. It is the original design but with different lighting and details to modernize it. I think this would have worked just fine. This is what Doug Drexler had originally designed... Sabertooth and RickR 2 Quote 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...
TrekMD Posted May 3, 2022 Report Posted May 3, 2022 Sorry, here is another updated look of the original TOS Enterprise. Again, lighting makes a huge difference! RickR 1 Quote 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...
RickR Posted May 3, 2022 Report Posted May 3, 2022 I think they kind of boxed themselves into a corner with the USS Discovery, which was originally set before TOS. They made that ship way too advanced looking, so the flagship Enterprise had to look more advanced. Like I said, I'm just really glad they didn't go with the hot-rod wild Kelvin version. DegasElite Posted May 3, 2022 Report Posted May 3, 2022 Still, it's not a bad design. I'm not saying I dislike it, but it could be a deviation from the norm, I guess. It does look cool. Interesting. RickR 1 Quote
DegasElite Posted May 3, 2022 Report Posted May 3, 2022 You are also right about one other thing, RickR. The nacelles do not look like turkey drumsticks like in the Kelvin Timeline. That is a good thing. :O) RickR 1 Quote
TrekMD Posted May 3, 2022 Report Posted May 3, 2022 I think there is the assumption by many people that the original design would not work today. The two pictures I posted prove that is not the case. Proper lighting and some detailing would make the original design quite appropriate for modern viewers. Still, the updated design is cool as it is. The TOS Klingon Battlecruiser is pretty sweet too. TrekMD and DegasElite 2 Quote
RickR Posted May 3, 2022 Report Posted May 3, 2022 I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but I want to make sure everyone is aware of the "Weird Nashville" youtube channel. They do some really great TOS model videos. For example: Sabertooth and TrekMD 2 Quote

- Ω - Posted May 6, 2022 Author Report Posted May 6, 2022 Okay, after watching the S1 E1 episode of Strange New Worlds, I can say, I LIKE IT. If future episodes are like this, it may turn out to be the most popular Star Trek series since The Next Generation. I'm glad we are back to "self contained episodes". It keeps the interest level up when they pack more into a single episode. Keatah, RickR and Sabertooth 3 Quote <<< My YouTube Page >>>
TrekMD Posted May 6, 2022 Report Posted May 6, 2022 I've not been able to watch it. Tomorrow night! I had to work until only about an hour ago. Very eager to watch this first episode! Sabertooth 1 Quote 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...
TrekMD Posted May 7, 2022 Report Posted May 7, 2022 I watched the first episode tonite and I really, really liked it! It has that Star Trek feel from TOS with the more episodic feel. You can see they will have character development through the season, which is fine. Keatah, RickR and Sabertooth 3 Quote 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...
