Hey, all...I really didn't want to just pimp myself here, but Justin encouraged me to post updates about this podcast nonetheless. With his blessing...Chapter 6 is out!

ABSOLUTELY you're invited to share your Podcast here! 🙌 I've been listening to Autobiography of a Schnook and I've enjoyed it quite a bit. It's not directly about video games but is pertinent to retro-life and chock-full of anecdotes about life in the 80s and 90s, working in a tech-related industry, etc. It's also been a terrific way to get to know one of our most active Forum members a little bit better, and for that reason alone it deserves to have a dedicated thread.

Message: Welcome to our 53rd Squad Challenge! To celebrate our 52nd Squad Challenge we are playing our first 5200 Squad Challenge! Battlezone is an Atari icon. It was a vector game in the arcade, but became one of the better ports to the Atari 2600 using standard graphics. PDF Battlezone Instruction Booklet is attached below. Good luck!

  5. Chase The Chuck Wagon! I remember in the early 1990s this was considered an absolute Holy Grail. It's amazing to see how the rise of the internet has proven Chuck Wagon to be a bit more readily available than previously thought. Super Pro Decathlon is a cool pickup! I always found it interesting that INTV was still releasing Intellivision games that far into the NES era.

Well perhaps when you are ready for this, the other new options teased by BennVenn electronics will be available as well. No real details other than he will be releasing it soon for both Lynx and Game Gears and supposed it costs 1/2 the price of the McWill kit. But again no other details other than words.

Thanks @CrossBow! My first priority is quality and good craftsmanship. If the BennVenn mods are as good or better than McWill that sounds like a great option. Let's see what transpires and we'll move forward soonish. I'm thrilled to see this level of continued development for the Lynx. I always felt it had more life left in it.

I can, but it isn't cheap. The kits are $120 + shipping alone and then I always advise that the power components and caps be replaced as well. As such there is quite a bit of labor involved so yeah..not cheap. If you have the kit already then naturally that takes a chunk off the costs overall, but still a pricey upgrade to have done.

Thank you @CrossBow! I understand the costs involved. The McWill screen is beautiful and the results will be worth it to somebody who loves the Lynx and wants a nice reliable unit to play for years to come. I've been looking for somebody trustworthy to perform this mod, I especially like that you'll be recapping the unit and replacing the power components. I have an NOS Lynx I'll be using for this mod. I'll start saving up my ₩oolongs and we can do this sometime this year at a time that is convenient for us both.

That is surprising because I just put a McWill LCD mod into an AA members Lynx like 2 months ago and they needed a replacement flex for their Lynx II as I noticed the power on/off wasn't working very well and once they received it back they stated other buttons started to act up as well. Point is, they were able to get the flex circuit for their Lynx II so did everyone suddenly up and buy them out in the past two months?

Hi @CrossBow would you be willing to make that mod for me as well? I've always wanted to have a Lynx McWill LCD modded but it's beyond something I want to do myself. Thank you!

Castlevania??  On the TG-16???  Whaaaaat?!?  No way!  Torture...pure video game torture.  To see this and wonder what if that game made it across the ocean.  NEC really underestimated the American gamers and the market.  Why?  I won't have funds anytime soon but should I win the lottery I'll pick up a system.  Cool stuff!

@kamakazi20012 Try http://www.freeturbodiscs.com you won't need to win the lottery, at least not to pick up a game or two. 😎👌

  12. Let's play Devil's Advocate for a minute. 😈 Let's say you were to file a complaint with eBay. Where's the misrepresentation? What if this is just somebody's mom clearing out the basement? She takes a couple of photos and posts it on eBay. eBay fills out most of the listing with the info from their database, and the seller gives a one sentence description: "Used with 2 controllers one not in best shape no power cord couple dents n dings". At least this auction you can clearly see what you would be bidding on. I've had gaming auctions sent to me that were absolutely not what was pictured in the listing. I've had people in the "Atari community" (names everyone here would know) promise to send me a 5200 and it would arrive without a motherboard inside. At least in this auction listing they are presumably showing you the damage to the console and being up front about the condition. The "launch edition" thing is stupid, but this is an early four port console (?) and unlike other scammers I don't see this listing embellishing a fraudulent description like "Super rare launch edition 5200 one of 100 specially produced!"

    35 minutes ago, nosweargamer said:

When you sell a system on ebay, ebay will try to match it with what they have in their database to fill out some info for you. Sadly, ebay calls a large number of retro systems Launch Edition by default, so an ignorant seller might just see the picture, say that looks like what I'm selling and click it for their auction. Sometimes, ebay might not have an non launch edition variation to choose.

This is more ebay's fault for their database than the seller who doesn't know better. Ebay shouldn't have "Launch Edition" as a default choice, especially for older systems that were never called "Launch Edition" by the company who released it.

Exactly. Ebay acts as though they are accountable to no one, as do many tech monopolies. Try getting eBay or PayPal or Twitter on the phone and see what happens. In the end I don't think this is going to be one of those auctions where some poor naïve soul just getting into classic gaming is going to see this auction and think "wow what a great deal on a 5200, I have to get this! Oh cool and it's a launch edition, super collectable!"

In the forums we have Like/Dislike buttons down in the corner. What eBay needs is a little garbage can button that says "Mark this Auction as Trash" and then everybody votes down that auction as being trash that nobody is going to every pay $28 plus $35.90 shipping for. Into the trash it goes.

    :mac_trash:

  13. I think he means it's the original release with four controller ports instead of two. When you look closely at the picture though, it looks like it has the plastic housing with slots for four controller ports but fitted with a later motherboard with only two controller ports. I can let "launch edition" slide if that's their way of saying it was the early model but this 5200 is pretty junky.

Some of the games I would be after, namely Konami titles, are only on the PC Engine.  But either one.  I wouldn't be picky.  Lol.  They are just so expensive though.

Bear in mind the Turbo EverDrive works on TurboGrafx-16 AND PC Engine systems, allowing you to flip between regions and play all games. There are also card adapters available to play PC Engine HuCards on TurboGrafx-16 systems and vice versa. Collect your passion and do what you think is best for you 😎
