Posting a little late but I consider this as being my personal greatest "adventure"    I was encouraged by Justin to share so though I had not initially thought to do so outside my Facebook timeline I know I am at home here among you all and so I share because I think it is an achievement and despite whatever faults I have I am very proud that tonight we celebrated 15 years together and 13 years of marriage. We went to a great local dining establishment here in town called THE FIXX CAFE. It was delicious and everything went great. Here we are and here is what we had. I had the Pasta Special and a Guinness and Melissa had a Martini  and Halibut Special.

I have two TG-16's, both do composite A/V without the official add-on as they have been modded. No original HuCards (I gave those away  ) which is fine since I have a TurboEverdrive so I can load any PCengine / TG16  game up and play on the TG16! Some great games for sure!

At least for me it was very similar.

I saw Legacy 5 times in the theaters.   That's VERY excessive for me, but I freely admit my obsession with the franchise.
The World of Tron was an ultimate escape for me as a kid growing up.  I had countless scenarios in my head for this vast world I imagined.

I knew one of the animators who worked on that film!  It was a real challenge for them to do any kind of 3D animation back in the day because, well, the software for it didn't exist.
So everything had to be designed with simple shapes in mind so that they could do 3D transformations (e.g. translation, rotation, scale, squash/stretch) more easily.  Thats why everything had a 'simple' design to it.

For example, that light cycle sequence is ALL math, from rotating 90 degree angles manually to all those shapes to translations.  Those guys were pioneers. They used a Evans & Sutherland Picture System 2 system to produce the 3D graphics.

To think, most of that film was shoot using green screen techniques.  We wouldn't see anything like that for nearly 22 years later with 'Skycaptain and the World of Tomorrow' and shortly after that, 300.

I also recommend pacing yourself with the video uploads. If you make several short videos rather than one long video, don't upload them all at once. That tends to be too much for people to want to handle all at once. It's probably easiest to film it as one long video and edit them into short videos all in one sitting.

But then stagger them out. Save them to put one up every Friday, etc. and focus on just that one video. Publish it to YouTube and then share on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, wherever, and post here in the forums. It gives people something to look forward to and it hits the sweet spot as far as people's attention span goes

I've always been really impressed with Paul Slocum. I think he's a literal genius. I wrote a blog entry on him a number of years ago (which I need to find), My blog entry linked to an article The Austin Chronicle had written about Paul Slocum for SXSW. It's a bit dated, but still a great read if you're curious about an awesome person who pushed the 2600 to the max in the most interesting ways:

I saw this today, it's called the slocum tracker. You can make your own soundtrack and sounds without having to get into assembly language to much. A great little tool for homebrew or just messing around with.

I didn't notice it the first time, but he made the speaker grille (on the front of the cabinet on the left above the coin mech) in the shape of a Tri-Force triangle. Creative!

Nintendo may have abandoned the arcade scene the moment that NES thing started to take off, but that hasn't stopped some fans over the years from developing their own arcade versions of some of Nintendo's greatest games.

Among them, few are as impressive as this custom Legend of Zelda cabinet:

Made by a fan known as Wyo on the Arcade Museum forums, this cabinet is actually just an elaborate housing for an NES running the game to a 20" CRT screen. The devil, however, is in the design details that Wyo describes via a post on Arcade Museum.

"Basically, it’s an all wood construction," says the creator. "Primered and block sanded smooth and straight. I painted it with metallic gold automotive urethane, and then added a mid coat of .008 gold flake. After I cleared it, I wetsanded it 1000-3000 and then polished it. It turned out pretty cool."
