You are the Hercule Poirot of retro system diagnostics!
Nice work and very enjoyable to read. Thank you.

Wow. Now that was a mystery that was tough to solve. I'm glad you stuck with it.

This is making me reconsider my decision in Oct. I may stop in just to see these in action :)

This is great info and I would love to see an install guide if you decide to do that. I've never gone beyond just a basic composite mod using a very simple board and three wires connected to the main board. The UAV is more complicated to install, but I imagine the results are 100 times better (and more output options too).

Cheers to your continued success.

The main problem I have is that when I want to play this game from my UnoCart, I can't remember the name. Bugs? No. La Cucaracha? No. Dang it! Let's just play Moon Patrol instead.
Hey, here's a good idea...I should rename the file on that cart to LaCucaracha. BOOM. Problem solved.

I love this game, but I always have a hard time remembering the name of it. They should have called it "La Cucaracha", which is the part I remember.
PS - they say "We Gotcha!" when you die.

I'm sorry you are disappointed. On the bright side, your review is excellent and I enjoyed reading it. I'll steer clear of this game!

It looks really nice. And fun.

Weird. What difference would it make to power down the system first? Maybe from infecting this disk with the virus? Bizarre.

I will try this one next. It looks like fun to me.

I'll send you the image I'm using next time I'm upstairs so you can see if that fixes the palette issue.
I'm using a GOTEK drive and a USB stick that has 5 or 6 versions of each image. It's way too thorough and I should probably delete most of what's there once I find a version that works of each image.

Oh man! You were right. This is a great game. Very fun. I love the hills and the tight controls. I really like how your car doesn't blow up every time you touch something. And the flying is really funny! Overall, the crashing is very forgiving and fair. Totally my fault, officer.
Here's what it looks like on my TV. Are you using RF? I'm using a composite cable.
Keep the suggestions coming. I definitely would not have tried this great game otherwise. Thanks!!!

Nice. I will try this one too. It looks like fun.

I will get back to you once I get the ST out and working. I did get the tub out as you see in the pic. But first, I need to get the Dreamcast back in the original box, which I recently found while cleaning stuff up. Finding that box is very exciting to me. I'm so glad I kept it.
As for selling or not, I will give it a chance first. I also have an Amiga. It makes no sense to keep both. Too much stuff! I'd rather have the space and peace of mind back. In the last year, I've sold and Atari 800 and an Aquarius and do not miss them one bit.
Anyway, more pictures to come once I get the time to get the ST out.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you as far as the ST. I like it very much, but I think I've decided to sell mine. I just don't use it that often.
Given that, my favorite games are the remake of Star Raiders, Buggy Boy, and Lemmings. I need to try more. And maybe we can do that here....play some "new-to-us" games together before I sell mine. Every time I play games on the ST, I find it to be very reminiscent of the Sega Genesis. There must be some connection in the hardware. The games just have that same look-and-feel of Genesis. Maybe it's just me.My ST has a GoTek drive in it, meaning I'm completely dependent on images. And I have a bunch.
I also have a small collection of commercial games on disk. But since I don't have a working floppy drive anymore, they are useless to me.

That sounds like a good plan.
For myself, I use a magnifier, but I'm finding as I age, it really exacerbates the shaking of my hands. I have gotten into the habit of explaining what I want done and letting my 20-something child do it for me :)

Soldering that 4050 surface mount would be a challenge for me. You'll have to share any tips you have for something like that.

You earned it! Nice job.

Your entry here made me think of something to try. I have a PS2 steering wheel, but haven't ever tried it on PS1 racing games (played on the PS2). I should give this a try, as it would give some of these older games a new life.

I think it could do 2GB DDR memory (2 * 1GB sticks), but I don't have those).
The integrated graphics in this machine is an NVidia Geforce 4 MX 440 and it runs Quake and Quake 2 pretty well!
