Great review!
What's interesting is how NONE of the home versions of Double Dragon really capture the magic of the arcade version. There's always at least one little issue that isn't quite right. Why? It isn't that complex of a game. Even on the 16 bit systems, they would try to enhance it a bit or change the controls or whatever. -
I second what @CrossBowsaid regarding pictures. For high score contests and such, I use a small Canon digital "point and shoot" camera and make sure to turn the flash off. Make sure to have the screen fill the camera image and hold that camera as still as possible. And for whatever reason, my Google phone does take much better pictures in general than that Canon camera. Mostly, it's able to focus better.
Your review is really good! Please keep them coming.

Oooh, this is a fun post. Very nicely done. I'm leaving portables off this list.
Here is mine off the top of my head.-
Atari 2600 (7800)
The 2600 is my all-time favorite. But why not choose the 7800 instead, which is really 2 consoles in 1?
-
Atari 800XL
I grew up with one and adore it. I still use it! I didn't include a 5200 in my list because this is essentially the same.
-
Sony PS2
One of my all-time favorites due to the huge and varied library.
-
Nintendo Wii
Again, 2 consoles in 1 with the Gamecube compatibility.
-
Nintendo NES
-
Vectrex
-
Sony PS
So many good memories with this. I can't leave it off.
-
Virtual Boy
Truly underrated. They should have called it "3D Boy" as that's what it does.
-
Nintendo SNES
-
TurboGrafx 16
I love this thing and enjoy every game I've tried.

This is an awesome post. Thank you for sharing this very important information.
I had a similar issue on my Vectrex. After not using it for about a day, it would take about 10 minutes to power on. Turn the switch on, wait 10 minutes, and them BOOM, the console comes to life. After that (within the same play session), it would turn off/on normally. I found that leaving the switch ON and not touching it and using a power strip to turn the console on/off solved the issue, but that was a temporary fix. So I found a local expert to change out all the caps and also had them disassemble and clean out the switch. Now it works just right.

I have an Amiga that I rarely use just due to lack of time. But if I had an expert to help guide me...I'm sure I would be an active participant. Hell, if you want to post the games that are best, I'm happy to try them out and post a newbie perspective.
The most disappointing thing I've found so far with my Amiga is that it cannot run the one game I really wanted to try: Dr J vs Larry Bird One on One. It might be worth trying emulation for that one.

The three multicarts I have are:
- A Jay Smith 72 in 1 dated 2008 that came with the Vectrex when I bought it.
- The VecMulti, which uses an SD card and is probably the best thing available since you can add new ROM files.
- Jason Kopp's multicart, which is really good for having so many games embedded, and he only charges $20 + shipping for them. The ultimate bargain. It also has an LED on the cart, which is a nice feature.
The buzz off kit is better than I imagined it would be. It not only eliminated the headache-inducing buzz, but also the slightly pulsating graphics. I didn't realize how noticeable that was until it's gone. What a difference. It looks more like an arcade machine than ever now. I've gotten a lot of negative comments about having the buzz-off installed ("It's not a Vectrex without the buzz"), but I disagree wholeheartedly. HUGE improvement.
I will look for and try Vector Pilot and Vector Patrol as I haven't seen those. Thank you for the suggestions. My favorite is probably Armor Attack. -
$10 for these games is an incredible deal. And it seems like they are getting better and better as they go.

I do. Enjoyed both.
Your reviews are worthwhile too. I trust your opinion.

Awesome write-up as usual. I love how the VCS games are reasonably priced as promised.
I was thinking about jumping on at the recent $250 sale price for the VCS, but I don't have a microcenter near me. I'll keep my eyes open for similar deals.

I took a lot more pictures. Probably close to 100 pics. The museum is a really cool place. That day I visited, it was mostly empty (maybe a dozen people). So I had plenty of room to take as many pics as I wanted (and also sneak in a few "touches" on the cars I really cared about -- Shhhh don't tell). I would definitely go back to this museum.

That is weird for sure!
I will tell you that the museum is set up for personal events. They have a room for that very purpose, and it was set up for a wedding reception when I was there. I imagine they'll put whatever cars you request in there (for a fee, of course). It looks very much like a marketing photo and maybe a few bucks got someone this type of access. My point being that the museum seems very accommodating to personal requests to bolster their revenue. -

Nice that you got to see one of the 24-karat gold American Express DeLorean's in person, they only assembled 3 🙂
I wanted to hop in and drive home in it.

Super Metroid for the SNES was one of the first SNES games I bought because of Harry's enthusiasm for it. I still haven't played it beyond the first couple of minutes, but one of these days
I've also been playing Super Metroid off and on for a while, but haven't made it too far. Does the game have save points? If it does, mine doesn't work right.

An addendum to my blog post with a bit more about me:
I never had a Colecovision in the 80's. However, I drooled over them in the stores. I remember being totally blown away by the pack-in game "Donkey Kong" on the demo unit at my local "Payless" store. At the time, there was a choice for gamers for the latest system: The Atari 5200 or the Colecovision. As much as I love Atari, I would have chosen the Colecovision in a heartbeat. It had more unique games and they looked great. My next system after my Atari 2600 was the Commodore VIC-20, which I loved.
I did get a CV about 15 years ago when I started retro-collecting. I was not disappointed. What am I playing on the Phoenix?
My go-to on CV -- my favorite game -- is Frenzy. It's fun. It's challenging. And I really like the sound effects and graphics.
I'm also revisiting a lot of the classic arcade games. Looping, Ladybug, Donkey Kong, etc. I like the games that don't take a ton of time investment.
Next on my list will be some of the "Super Game Module" ROM files I have.

Awesome write up. I'm such a nerd that the minute I saw the symptom, I knew it was the 4050 chip.
You've done a beautiful job on that repair. Using a socket and really nice soldering.
