the bowling thing used to come-on pressing button through the package ... but it was sealed & I can't bring myself to open a sealed game .... so you gatta open it , fix batteries & re-seal it so it looks like it never been opened  ... I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

all the 8-bit stuff books I rescued from recycling place and knew they would thoroughly be enjoyed. ... opening a book isn't something I do much of either

I recently picked up the Intellivision game board for Mystic Castle from David Harley.  In this video I demonstrate what to do with the game board and have a little bit of terrible game play of Mystic Castle. I also show off Mark Thompson's website where you can pick up some homebrew manuals+overlays.

Not a trade....chas10e sent me all this gold at no charge!  WOW.  I can't thank you enough.

The bowling game is what started this.  It needs a new battery we think.  I'll figure it out.

The Atari 8-bit books are just 100% pure treasure to me.  The 8-bit computers are my favorite retro system.  These babies are going to have a nice home here.  The catalog on the lower left is particularly fascinating -- it has a bunch of the computers that were planned but never produced.  Atari 1450XLD anyone?

    Thanks again. \o/

Things get harder for me once the ice guys are added to the mix, but the levels following the third bonus stage actually felt a little easier to me for some odd reason. Perhaps I was getting into a groove.

I'm no NSG, but not too bad for a first play-through; 48,520. Played on the 30th Anniversary Mulitcart #1.

This I'm not sure on... I think he would have listened to other modern music, but that playlist might have been treated like an artifact from his father's past. Its like a Guardians of the Galaxy cassette thing to me. Heck when I listen to that "album" I only listen to those songs, I don't mix in other stuff. I might sprinkle those songs into another playlist, but its definitely kind of its own thing.

I think you're on to something too about believable vs unbelievable... something RPO has going for it is the Oasis itself. Anything is possible because most of the book takes place in a VR video game. With Armada its all happening in the real world, which puts the reader into disbelief right away.

    Perfect summary right there.

For me, it made me rethink RPO a little.  Without all the 80's references, would it have been any good?  Is that all it was?

Maybe I'm just overthinking it.  Armada is just too unbelievable.  EC had to compress down the timeline to make the story believable (the father being 19 when he died, for example).  And then there are points like the Zach playlist ONLY having 80's songs on it.  Puh-lease.  You mean to tell me he wouldn't sprinkle in a little Eminem or other modern music?  I must have said "Pfft" a dozen times when listening.

For me it just worked better with RPO though.... I was much more willing to forgive the excessive 80 references and predictable plot because it felt right, it was what made the book so great for me. With Armada it felt more cliche for some reason. I'm honestly hoping I don't get that same feeling when EC finally writes the RPO sequel.

Does anyone have a spare Arcadia 2001 cart? A console will arrive here soon, but no games for it! I thought I'd ask here before going to ebay.

    Thanks.

This is ringing some faint bells for me, believe it or not. Despite my better judgment, I included the words "red tube" in a search, but only came up with the Pente game, which is decidedly not electronic. There were some other results that I won't go into here.

I agree with you both, but it also pointed out some issues with Ready Player One too....the story is too predictable, the hero can do more than is logical, the hero will get the girl, there WILL be a happy ending. Maybe too much emphasis on 80's references.

I also listened to the Wil Wheaton audiobook version, and he does a great job.

I liked it...just a little too much of the same for me I guess.

The battery is fine. It turns out, to turn on the system (without a charger attached), you turn on the power switch AND hold down one of the tiny buttons on the face. Did I mention no documentation at all?

I'm going to do more testing in the evenings. I want to try some Genesis ROMS to see if those work too.

Ok. This is one of the finds that made my week so great.
I bought an Intellivision II with a handful of games. When I saw a pic of it on eBay, I wasn't going to buy it until something caught my eye.
    Notice anything?

That's right! A rare, red demonstration cart!!!

It's basically an ad on a cart telling you why to buy the system and showing some gameplay from some of the games. They would use these in stores and it kinda acted like the later VHS tapes that had nothing but commercials on them and would start back at the beginning when done.
I will make a video showing it in action later.

I never read Ender's Game  but while the story was good, it seemed fairly predictable. It's worth reading for sure.
